Ahead of Shrek 5, Eddie Murphy Shares an Exciting Update on Donkey Spinoff
Image
A fifth Shrek movie is in development, but this won't be all that's in store for fans of the franchise to anticipate. Donkey is also set to get his own spinoff, and Eddie Murphy has shared the latest update on the exciting project.

Per ScreenRant, Murphy was present at San Diego Comic-Con to promote his new movie, The Pickup. He was asked about the status of Shrek 5, which he confirmed was still having voices recorded for its theatrical release in 2026. It won't be long before Murphy will be back in the booth to record more lines as Donkey once that's finished, as he also revealed that production on the spinoff starts in September.

"No, they're still doing voiceover stuff," Murphy said of Shrek 5. "We're still in the booth, and literally, we're still doing Shrek. We start in September on Donkey, we're doing a Donkey one, and that'll be three years from now,...

‘The Toxic Avenger’: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and All You Need to Know
Image
Remember the cult hit from 1984 that made Troma Entertainment notorious for its schlockiness? Finally, The Toxic Avenger is returning to the big screen once again. The franchise has been equally funny, brutal, and strangely charming. The original film mixed slapstick violence with a bit of satire. After many decades, the reboot looks to be authentic to its roots while introducing something new for the younger audience.

However, the path to this remake has not been easy. After premiering to a select audience, the film mysteriously disappeared. The movie even had big names like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Guillermo Del Toro attached to it at some points. Now that it appears to be finished, let’s explore the actors, storyline, and all the relevant details on this radioactive resurrection.

Shrek's New Look in 'Shrek 5' Isn't Actually That Bad
Image
Quick LinksShrek's 2020s Makeover for 'Shrek 5'The Positive Side of Shrek's Redesign

Animation lovers, rejoice! Shrek is coming back to the big screens in late 2026. This DreamWorks franchise is easily one of the most popular animated properties of this century. So a new film should have united fans both young and old, right? Right? Not exactly, as all anyone can talk about online is the new design of the characters in Shrek 5. It's difficult to define just what exactly is upsetting fans, but it mostly boils down to Shrek looking "different."

This redesign isn't that unexpected, as it's been nearly 16 years since the last Shrek movie. CGI animation has improved in that time, with DreamWorks utilizing new technological methods. It's also been a full 25 years since the inaugural Shrek film, released when CGI was in its infancy. Each of the three subsequent films preserved most of the designs...

Shrek 5 Teaser Trailer Brings In Zendaya, But Not As Meechee
Shrek 5 (2026)
This is not a drill! It's been a long, long time since audiences have taken a trip to Far, Far Away but "Shrek 5" is going to bring us back there next year. As evidence of that, DreamWorks has released the first, brief teaser for the long-awaited sequel -- one that introduces us to the cast. Most of them are familiar faces but there is one new, very important addition: Welcome to the family, Zendaya.

While the above teaser doesn't make it explicitly clear who the star of "Dune" and "Challengers" is playing in the film, the folks at The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed that she is voicing the daughter of Shrek and Fiona. The teaser also confirms that Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Fiona), and Eddie Murphy (Donkey) are also reprising their famous roles. Diaz's inclusion is not insignificant, seeing as she walked away from Hollywood for years...

'Shrek 5' Casts Zendaya as Shrek's Daughter
Image
Zendaya is Meechee, Chani, and Tashi, but now she will be... Felicia, a.k.a. Shrek's daughter in Shrek 5. Shrek 5 is slated to hit theaters in December 2026, marking 16 years since everyone's favorite ogre graced the silver screen with his own feature film. Shrek 5 has easily become one of the most anticipated movies of 2026 and now has the added advantage of an entire generation who grew up with the original Shrek movies now being old enough to be some of Hollywood's newly established actors who would leap at the chance to join the franchise.

It appears one A-lister joining the Shrek franchise is Zendaya. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Zendaya has joined the cast of Shrek 5 as Shrek's daughter Felicia, first seen in Shrek the Third. The character will now be a full-grown teenager in the upcoming sequel. Universal Pictures released an official video revealing the cast,...

First ‘Shrek 5’ Trailer Introduces Shrek’s Daughter Zendaya
Image
The first teaser for “Shrek 5” has arrived and Shrek’s kids are all grown up — and apparently, Zendaya is indeed voicing one of them. Although, her character is horrified at the magic mirror’s latest reveal.

“Hey magic mirror! Who’s the fairest of them all?” Donkey eagerly asks, once again voiced by Eddie Murphy. The answer apparently is Shrek, as the mirror provides memed versions of the ogre in response.

You can watch the first footage in the video, below.

Far, Far Away's finest are coming. pic.twitter.com/7qn8FNIBT6

Among the results is a very buff Shrek, prompting his daughter Felicia (Zendaya) to pop in and gag at it, while Fiona — voiced by a returning Cameron Diaz, after making her acting comeback in Netflix’s “Back in Action” earlier this year — fawns over it.

Who’s responsible for such horrifying images, you ask?...

Zendaya Joins ‘Shrek 5’ Voice Cast as Shrek’s Daughter
Image
Zendaya is taking her talents to the swamp.

The mononymous, in-demand actor has joined “Shrek 5” as Felicia, the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz).

Universal and DreamWorks, the studios behind the animated adventure set in the land of Far, Far Away, released a teaser along with the updated casting news. In the clip, Shrek’s trustee sidekick Donkey (Eddie Murphy) asks: “Hey Magic Mirror, who’s the fairest of them all?”

Magic Mirror, you know, the one from “Snow White,” responds: “Why Shrek! Of course.”

But this Magic Mirror appears to have a distinctly 21st century twist, allowing the green ogre to swap between various Gen Z-ified looks at Shrek. This prompts very different reactions from Felicia and Fiona as Shrek raises the question of the hour: “Who is making this stuff?” Just then, Pinocchio pops up to tell a nose-growing lie, declaring “Not me!”

Eddie Murphy to play retired superspy in action comedy Blue Falcon
Image
Deadline reports that Eddie Murphy is set to star in Blue Falcon, an action comedy scripted by Chad St. John (London Has Fallen). Murphy will be playing a “retired superspy who heads for the destination wedding of his estranged son, and finds himself in proximity with his archrival.” It makes me think of that Andy Warhol quote: “In the future, everyone will play a retired superspy.” I think that’s how it went.

Blue Falcon will be produced by Davis Films’ John Davis, Cliff Roberts through Syndicate Entertainment, and Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster through Eddie Murphy Productions.

Shrek 5 Gets A New, Later Release Date As Minions 3 Is Moved Up By An Entire Year
Image
Deadline (via Toonado.com) has learned that Shrek 5 is now set to open on Wednesday, December 23, 2026. The long-awaited sequel had originally been scheduled for July 1, 2026, so while this delay isn't too big, those extra five months are going to sting for impatient Shrek fans.

On the plus side, Minions 3 has shifted from June 30, 2027, to that July 1 slot. That's a huge jump forward and an indication work on the movie must be progressing well.

It's also been revealed that an untitled Illumination event movie has moved from March 19, 2027 to Minions 3's vacant June date.

Shrek 5 is being released to coincide with DreamWorks' 25th anniversary, with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz all set to reprise their respective roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona. Shrek franchise veterans Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon will be at the movie's helm.

Universal Pictures Adjusts Animation Schedule: ‘Minions 3’ Moves Up, ‘Shrek 5’ Delayed
Steve Carell, Chris Renaud, Jemaine Clement, Miranda Cosgrove, Pierre Coffin, Elsie Fisher, and Dana Gaier in Moi, moche et méchant (2010)
Universal Pictures changed its animation schedule on Friday by moving the release dates for two of its most popular franchises. ‘Minions 3’ will come out earlier than planned, and ‘Shrek 5′ has been pushed back to the winter holidays of 2026.

The intended release date for “Minions 3” was June 30, 2027, but it will now be July 1, 2026. This move puts it during the busy Independence Day weekend. The choice came after the huge success of the Despicable Me franchise. It has made over $5 billion at the box office worldwide, making it the highest-grossing animated film series ever.

The creative people of the first two films will return to the third Minions film. You can count on Pierre Coffin to return as the movie’s director and to voice the famous yellow figures. Universal pushes back the release of Shrek 5 while moving Minions 3 forward by a full year

‘Shrek 5’ Pushed to Christmas 2026, ‘Minions 3’ Moved Up to July 2026 in Universal Release Shake-Up

You’ll have to wait a little longer to learn if all that glitters is gold.

Universal has announced that DreamWorks Animation’s “Shrek 5” will be moving from July 1, 2026, to Dec. 23, 2026. In its place, Universal will open Illumination’s “Minions 3,” which was previously supposed to come out a year later. That’s the kind of chaotic scheduling a minion would really embrace.

Additionally, an untitled Illumination film has moved from March 19, 2027 to June 30, 2027 (the previous “Minions 3” date).

“Shrek 5” sees Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz returning to their iconic roles. The movie will release as part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary. The studio announced Friday that DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 5 is now set for release on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2026, after previously having been dated for July 1, 2026. Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon are directing Shrek 5 with Brad Ableson as co-director. Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri produce the film that sees the return of voice stars Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey) and Cameron Diaz (Fiona).

In a twinned move, Minions 3 from Illumination is now set to hit theaters on July 1, 2026, moving up from its previously planned release date of June 30, 2027. Pierre Coffin, who directed the first three Despicable Me films and the first Minions spinoff movie, is helming Minions 3 from a script from Brian Lynch. Coffin voices the yellow mischief-makers that were introduced as sidekicks to former supervillain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) in the 2010 title Despicable Me.

Universal Delays ‘Shrek 5’, Moves Up ‘Minions 3’ & More
Image
Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 5 will now open on Wednesday, December 23, 2026, instead of July 1 next year.

At the same time, the studio said Friday it is moving up Illumination’s Minions 3 from June 30, 2027 to Shrek 5‘s previous July 2026 date. That’s because the Minions and Gru have ruled the Independence Day frame for quite some time, most recently with Despicable Me 4 minting a $230M global opening last summer.

Another shift going on at Universal: an untitled Illumination event movie will move from March 19, 2027 to Wednesday June 30, 2027.

Shrek 5 is timed to Dwa’s 25th anniversary. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz as reported are reprising their roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona, respectively. Directors are Shrek franchise veterans Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon. Dohrn (Trolls franchise) worked on the second and third Shrek films as a writer and artist and as Head...

‘Shrek 5’ Pushed to December 2026, ‘Minions 3’ Moves Up to July 2026
Image
Shrek and the Minions will both be on the big screen in 2026.

Universal Pictures announced Friday that the highly-anticipated animated movies are swapping their theatrical release dates, with DreamWorks Animation’s “Shrek 5” pushing back from July 1, 2026 to Wednesday, Dec. 23, while Illumination’s “Minions 3” moves into that summer 2026 window from its planned June 30, 2027 date.

Universal has also shifted the release of an untitled Illumination event film from March 19, 2027 to the June date.

While December 2026 might seem far, far away, “Shrek 5” arrives in time for the franchise’s 25th anniversary and marks the grand return of original “Shrek” stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz to voice Shrek, Donkey and Fiona.

Beginning with 2001’s “Shrek” (which won the first Oscar for best animated feature), the four “Shrek” films have earned more than $2.9 billion worldwide, spawning a global live-touring show and an award-winning Broadway musical that earned eight Tony nominations and 12 Drama Desk nominations,...

Credits: Peter Dinklage in The Toxic Avenger / Legendary Pictures

One thing that baffles fans as well is that the movie was well-received during its festival premiere, so there’s no reason why the studio keeps holding it back from being released in theaters.

Peter Dinklage Provides Upsetting Update About The Toxic Avenger

The Toxic Avenger was penned and helmed by Macon Blair, and it serves as the fifth installment in the film series of the same title. The movie’s development dates back to 2010 when it was first announced as a remake of the 1984 movie. Several directors and writers were attached to the project,...

‘Invincible,’ ‘Hazbin Hotel,’ ‘Sausage Party: Foodtopia’ Renewed at Amazon
Image
Prime Video is extending the runs of several of its animated series.

The Amazon-owned streamer has ordered new seasons of Invincible, Hazbin Hotel and Sausage Party: Foodtopia. The pickups, announced at Comic-Con in San Diego, will bring a fourth season of Invincible, seasons three and four of Hazbin Hotel and season two Foodtopia to the platform.

A date for Invincible’s third season hasn’t been announced yet, but executive producer Robert Kirkman revealed at a Comic-Con panel Friday that the next installment will feature the infamous blue supersuit design featured in the Image Comics series by Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley. Invincible also scored its first Emmy nomination last week for Sterling K. Brown’s voice-over performance.

Hazbin Hotel came to Prime Video with a two-season order, and the renewal will extend it for two more seasons. Sausage Party: Foodtopia, a spinoff of the 2016 feature film, premiered July...

Sausage Party: Foodtopia Cast & Character Guide
Image
From the minds of Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Conrad Vernon, Sausage Party: Foodtopia is a comedy series and sequel series to their 2016 adult animated feature, Sausage Party. The show follows a group of grocery store foods who set out to build their own thriving food society, aptly called Foodtopia, beyond the confines of the supermarket, Shopwells. The series recently dropped all its episodes on Prime Video and picks up directly where the film left off. After taking over the grocery store and overthrowing the humans, known as humeys, a sausage named Frank leads the others to the ultimate utopia.

However, when a thunderstorm washes away everything theyve built and destroys many of its inhabitants, he and the others realize theyre going to need the help of at least one human in order to survive. Now inhabiting the stores of the nearest empty strip mall, the food attempts to move forward with their new society.

Sausage Party: Foodtopia Team Talks Trying to Top the Movie's Most Shocking Scene
Image
Sausage Party made the switch from film to the small screen with Sausage Party: Foodtopia, the sequel series streaming on Prime Video. Fans of the movie should not expect the series to be any less raunchy.

The developers of the series, Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter, spoke about Sausage Party: Foodtopia in a new interview with Cbr's Kevin Polowy. They commented on how they wanted to at least match, if not outright surpass, the raunchiness of the original feature film. That even means trying to outdo the famous "food orgy" scene from the film, and the two think they may have accomplished that goal --- which wasn't easy.

Sausage Party: Foodtopia's Seth Rogen Reveals How the Raunchy Franchise Was Created
Image
Sausage Party: Foodtopia, the sequel series to the 2016 film Sausage Party, is now streaming on Prime Video. To help promote the new series, three of its stars spoke with Cbr about how it came together.

The show is co-created by Seth Rogen, who also leads the voice cast as Frank, a talking sausage. His co-stars include Kristen Wiig as the hot dog bun Brenda Bunson and Sam Richardson as the orange Julius. All three had a recent chat with Kevin Polowy of Cbr about Sausage Party: Foodtopia, and in the interview, Rogen opened up on the creation of the franchise. He shared that it all began with a joke title for a film that wasn't intended to be an actual movie.

The Problem With Sausage Party: Foodtopia, Explained
Image
Sausage Party: Foodtopia is a sequel series to the 2016 animated film, focusing on Frank and other foods building a society called Foodtopia. The film's crude humor was successful, but the series may struggle to maintain interest with eight episodes. Sausage Party: Foodtopia could surprise viewers with a unique storyline and depth, but it needs to offer more than just shock value.

Set to hit Prime Video this month, Sausage Party: Foodtopia is an adult-animated comedy from the minds of Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Conrad Vernon. The limited series is a follow-up to the 2016 animated feature, Sausage Party, that tells the story of a grocery store sausage named Frank (Seth Rogen) who leads the other foods in the store on a journey to discover what really happens to them when theyre purchased by the humans who frequent the supermarket.

The series picks up exactly where the film left off and chronicles Frank,...

‘Sausage Party: Foodtopia’ Review: Amazon Series Spreads Original Film’s Fornicating Food Formula Even Thinner
Image
Say what you will about Sausage Party, but if you’ve ever wanted to watch a piece of anthropomorphic food call another piece of anthropomorphic food the c-word, or see the denizens of a supermarket aisle engaged in a protracted, graphic orgy, the animated hit is an irreplaceable part of the cinematic canon, putting the “whore” in “hors d’oeuvres,” as it were.

I’m not sure if even the most devoted of Sausage Party fans would say that the comedy had enough material to fill its 88-minute running time (the aforementioned orgy takes up roughly the last third of the film, or maybe it just feels like it does). But are there between 5 and 10 good and clever minutes? Yes, I would argue with some trepidation lest somebody come at me with a stopwatch, there are.

With similar trepidation, I’m prepared to say that there are between 5 and 10 good...

Sausage Party: Foodtopia Review: Fiercely Funny, Pun-Filled Filth Is Fantastic And Fulfilling
Image
Back in 2016, "Sausage Party" gave the "Toy Story" treatment to everyday food, but instead of being a family friendly adventure full of wonder, it was a raunchy romp full of grotesque groceries, violent victuals, and cuisine coitus. Directing duo Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, along with writers Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg and Kyle Hunter & Ariel Shaffir, told the story of an ensemble of foods -- such as Frank the hot dog (Seth Rogen), Brenda the bun (Kristen Wiig), Barry the deformed wiener (Michael Cera), Sammy Bagel Jr. (Edward Norton), Kareem Abdul Lavash (David Krumholtz), and more who come to realize that when they're bought from the Shopwell's grocery store, they're not being taken to some kind of glorious afterlife. Instead, they're brutally prepared, served, and consumed by the gods they've hoped to be grabbed by: hungry human beings.

By the end of the outrageously hilarious "Sausage Party," thanks to the magic of bath salts,...

Sausage Party: Foodtopia TV Review
Image
Plot: After 2016’s Sausage Party, most humans are dead, and food has become the dominant species. With no clue as to how to govern a new world and sustain a manufactured utopia, the system begins to break down. With failure looming and perishables in danger of surpassing their expiration dates, Frank (Seth Rogen), Brenda (Kristen Wiig), and Barry (Michael Cera) enlist one of the last remaining humans to help guide them toward democracy. All is going according to plan until an orange named Julius reshapes society in his twisted image. With little choice but to fight back, the biggest food fight in the history of foodkind ignites.

Review: Where do I begin? Are you like me in that you enjoy dark and absurdist comedy? You are? Oh good! You might have a blast with Sausage Party: Foodtopia, a continuation of 2016’s Sausage Party, so depraved and bizarre that you could...

Quick Links What Is The Boss Baby About? What Makes Boss Baby Painfully Dumb? Positives of The Boss Baby

Back in 2017, DreamWorks brought viewers the most unusual baby with their production of The Boss Baby. Directed by Tom McGrath and based on a children's book of the same name by Marla Frazee, the animation brings to screens a demanding, bossy little baby in a suit, extremely different from the endearingly adorable babies in onesies that viewers are accustomed to seeing. The protagonist of the film, Boss Baby, is voiced by Alec Baldwin, with those such as Miles Bakshi (Tim), Jimmy Kimmel (Dad), Lisa Kudrow (Mom), Conrad Vernon (Eugene), and Steve Buscemi (Francis) rounding out the cast.

Having accumulated a worldwide gross of more than $527 million, the success of the first film prompted a TV series, titled The Boss Baby: Back in Business, in 2018. A sequel to the original film, The Boss Baby: Family Business,...

Seth Rogen in Sausage Party : La Vie privée des aliments (2016)
Sausage Party | Trailer released for sequel series Foodtopia
Seth Rogen in Sausage Party : La Vie privée des aliments (2016)
Sausage Party sequel series Foodtopia is heading to Prime Video next month, spinning out from the original film. Trailer here.

Much of the hype surrounding Sausage Party upon its release in 2015 seemed to focus on the fact that a lewd, crude animated film was making its way to cinemas, as there had been a dearth of such films in the mainstream for quite a long time. Directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan and written by Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg, Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffer, the plot followed the anthropomorphic grocery items in a supermarket, as they dream of being sold and moving to ‘The Great Beyond’ only to be horrified when they discover they will be eaten.

The film proved popular at the box office, making over $140 million on a budget of $19 million. Inevitably, this meant that it was only a matter of time before a sequel was produced,...

‘Sausage Party: Foodtopia’ Trailer: Seth Rogen Aspires to Cook Up a Perfect Foodie World
Image
The “Sausage Party” TV-series spinoff “Foodtopia” is kind of like Seth Rogen’s warped, food-based version of Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis.”

Based off the 2016 animated feature, the upcoming Prime Video series “Sausage Party: Foodtopia” follows returning characters Frank, Brenda, Barry, and Sammy as they try to build their own food society. It’s a…bit less sophisticated than Coppola’s.

The infamously raunchy food-centric “Sausage Party” whipped up a bit of a stir with its original theatrical release. Now, almost a decade later, the Prime Video series features returning original cast members Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Edward Norton, along with newcomers Will Forte, Sam Richardson, Natasha Rothwell, and Yassir Lester.

The eight-episode first season hails from Annapurna Television, Sony Pictures Television, and Amazon MGM Studios. The original film was a co-production between Columbia Pictures and Great Beyond.

The series is executive produced by Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter,...

Amazon Prime Video released a trailer for Seth Rogen’s new animated series “Sausage Party: Foodtopia,” based on his 2016 R-rated comedy movie.

After forming Foodtopia, the characters are practically indestructible, until a flood wipes out their utopian civilization. Now, they must team up with humans once again to secure the survival of their species.

Prime Video ordered the eight-episode sequel series in October 2022. It’s developed by co-writers Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir and features original cast members Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Edward Norton reprising their roles. Will Forte, Natasha Rothwell, Sam Richardson and Yassir Lester are voicing new characters. Rogen also co-created the original film alongside Evan Goldberg and served as a producer.

Every Shrek Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
Shrek movies are among the most popular animated franchises, but their quality varies greatly from project to project. Despite challenges, Shrek reshaped the world of animated movies, ensuring DreamWorks' competition with Disney/Pixar. The success of films like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish gives hope for a possible revival of the beloved Shrek franchise.

With the 2001 original being a near-instant smash financial and critical success, the Shrek movies ranked among the most popular animated franchises of all time. The franchise has spawned the Shrek film series up to Shrek 4, two Puss In Boots spin-offs, and a Shrek Broadway musical. Given the success over the years, it wouldn't be surprising if there were still more adventures with Shrek (Mike Myers) and his pals, including the long-awaited Shrek 5. However, the quality of these projects varies greatly.

Despite the long and difficult production of the first movie, including losing Shrek's original voice actor Chris Farley,...

20 Years Ago, Shrek 2 Broke The Mold At The Box Office
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"Shrek" was a very important movie in animation history. It provided DreamWorks with its first true breakthrough hit, taking in $492 million in 2001. It ensured that Disney would have meaningful competition in the animation space for years to come, which has only been furthered in recent years with the dominance of Illumination in the marketplace. For DreamWorks though, it birthed what would become the studio's flagship franchise, one that has generated more than $3 billion since its inception. That franchise's biggest moment came in 2004 when "Shrek 2" hit theaters.

The animation house founded by former Disney executive Jeffrey Katzenberg hit a home run by pairing Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy as Shrek and Donkey in the first film, in no small part thanks to the stellar supporting cast.
