The stars of 1985's Back to the Future, including Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and more, have teamed up for a global adventure to find one of the movie's most iconic missing props. Back to the Future is full of fantastic, beloved props, including Doc Brown's DeLorean-turned-time machine, but few have had as interesting a history as the gorgeous Cherry Red Es-345 Gibson guitar that Marty plays Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" on at his mother and father's "Enchantment Under the Sea" high school dance.
Mysteriously, though, the guitar vanished after Back to the Future was shot. The filmmakers tried to locate the guitar when they started production on the 1989 sequel, Back to the Future Part II, but their efforts proved futile. Now, forty years later, Gibson is partnering with Fox, Loyd, Thompson, Harry Waters Jr., Huey Lewis, and Back to the Future co-creator Bob Gale to...

For decades, the signature red Gibson guitar that Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) played at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance in Back to the Futurehas been missing. Whether the Gibson Es-345 guitar hitched a ride on a DeLorean remains to be seen.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Gibson is reaching out to fans to help find the instrument from the iconic 1985 film, directed by Robert Zemeckis. The guitar brand has launched a search for the guitar that Marty McFly played Chuck Berry’s "Johnny B. Goode" in one of the film's most memorable scenes. Filmmakers discovered that the guitar had gone missing 40 years ago during the making of Back to the Future Part II. Gibson Films is producing a documentary about the search for the missing guitar titled Lost to the Future.

Watch me for the changes and try to keep up. 1985’s Back to the Future is packed with memorable moments. But one that can never be fully recreated – no matter how much it cooks – is the scene where Marty McFly introduces the world to “Johnny B. Goode” at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance years before it was actually released. And that’s because the Gibson Es-345 guitar used in that scene is missing. While there may not be a time-hopping journey to find the Gibson, there is an active hunt that involves the guitar company and Michael J. Fox.
This week, Gibson released a video calling for fans of Back to the Future to keep their eyes and ears peeled for the guitar in question, which has seemingly been “erased from existence”. Featured in the short video is Fox, Lea Thompson, Christopher Lloyd, Harry Waters Jr. (Marvin Berry), and writer/producer Bob Gale,...

Michael J. Fox and Gibson guitars are searching for the cherry red Es-345 guitar that the actor famously played in Back to the Future, which has been missing since the late 1980s.
Fox played the guitar during the film’s pivotal scene at the “Enchantment Under the Sea” dance, as his character Marty McFly tried to make sure his high school-aged parents fell in love. Filling in for injured bandleader Marvin Berry (Harry Waters Jr.), Marty rips a rendition of “Johnny B. Goode” (with some hair metal-style solos for good...

Harry Waters Jr.'s Marvin Berry claims to be the cousin of real-world rock and roll legend Chuck Berry in 1985's Back to the Future, but the movie's propensity for twisting genuine events makes it understandable that some may be unclear about whether Waters was playing a real historical figure. Michael J. Fox's Marty McFly changes history several times throughout Back to the Future, and although he and Christopher Lloyds Doc Brown rectify them as best they can, the dance scene at the end of the first Back to the Future movie arguably sends an unavoidable ripple through time.
All the timelines in the Back to the Future trilogy interconnect to create a cerebral and sprawling temporal adventure. As far as time travel stories go, the first movie is relatively grounded. The 1950s setting allows for a fun and quirky story to unfold while acknowledging the real threat to...

It’s been 38 years since the release of the film version of Back to the Future.
But the cast gathered earlier this week as if no time had passed at all, joining a gala celebrating Back to the Future: The Musical, which is currently playing in previews at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway ahead of an Aug. 3 opening date.
The plot line of the stage show follows the film. The logline: “When Marty McFly finds himself transported back to 1955 in a time machine built by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown, he accidentally changes the course of history. Now he’s in a race against time to fix the present, escape the past and send himself … back to the future.”
On hand for the gala on Tuesday were the original Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), along with costars Lea Thompson (Lorraine Baines), Don Fullilove (Mayor...

When Back to the Future premiered in 1985, audiences embraced it, and it became the highest grossing film of the year. Back to the Future stars Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, a teenager who befriends a quirky scientist named Emmett "Doc" Brown who builds a time machine out of a DeLorean. As Marty travels back in time, his own existence is threatened as his mother starts to fall for him. The film catapulted Fox into stardom, and he went on to appear in other popular films of the decade including Teen Wolf, Secret of My Success, and Casualties of War. He also returned to the Back to the Future franchise to reprise the role of beloved Marty McFLy for 1989's Back to the Future II and 1990's Back to the Future III.

Michael J. Fox came face to face with his younger self on Tuesday. Like a time-traveling scene out of “Back to the Future,” the star met Casey Likes, the young actor who plays Marty McFly in the new Broadway musical adaptation of the classic film.
Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson reunited on the red carpet at the Winter Garden Theatre, which was complete with a prop replica of the famous time-traveling DeLorean, before a benefit performance of “Back to the Future: The Musical” for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. A crowd of fans flocked to the theater and stuck through a rainy afternoon to see a pair of Marty McFlys and Doc Browns collide. Fox posed with Likes, and Lloyd shook hands with Roger Bart, who transforms into a wild-haired Doc, before the show started.
“Back to the Future: The Musical” will have its official Broadway opening on Aug.

Back to the Future's iconic Marty McFly guitar scene has several timeline issues, including Marty playing a Gibson Es-345, which didn't exist until 1958. Marty's performance of "Johnny B. Goode" creates a bootstrap paradox, but the cherry guitar itself goes unmentioned, potentially hoping audiences wouldn't notice the timeline problem. A better guitar choice for Marty would have been the Gibson Es-350T, which was released in 1955 and played by Chuck Berry himself, fitting in with the movie's 1955 setting.
The Back to the Future scene in which Marty McFly jams out with a guitar has come under scrutiny for several reasons, but one of its biggest issues is that it creates a problem with the movie's timeline. Back to the Future is one of the most beloved franchises of the late '80s and early '90s, balancing sci-fi technology and classic adventure tropes to create a thrilling time-travel romp that...

Christopher Lloyd is on the hunt for the Back to The Future DeLoreans in a new series for Discovery+. In the four-part series, called Expedition: Back to the Future, Lloyd will team up with Expedition Unknown host Josh Gates to track down other versions of the modified DeLorean Dmc-12 that was used for the filming of the classic 1985 movie. Their journey will take them all across the United States, with stops including Los Angeles, Houston, New York, and Orlando. A sneak preview has also been released.
The primary DeLorean used for Back to the Future is currently stationed at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Six other versions were also used for the movie, and Christopher Lloyd and Gates are on a mission to find at least one of these "time machines." If they can find the perfect DeLorean, it will then be auctioned off by Lloyd's Back to the Future...

The gym of the Hollywood United Methodist Church is dressed to the nines. Paper and foam fish hang from the ceiling. Blue and silver streamer curtains line the walls. A statue of Poseidon towers over tables strewn with punch bowls. About 100 people add a rainbow’s array of color to the gym with 1950s-era dresses and suits. But they’re not doing the hand jive or the bop – they’re busting out their ’80s moves as the band plays Whodini’s 1984 funk-rap song “Freaks Come Out At Night.” The scene is a nighttime shoot in mid-March 1985 on the set of “Back to the Future.” Harry Waters Jr., who played Marvin Berry, the leader of the band at the dance, recalled the surreal experience of jamming with contemporary songs in between takes for a gym full of extras in 30 years out-of-date clothes. “It was a party! It was entirely too much fun,...

In a world where the Jurassic Park franchise churned out another installment, Arnold Schwarzenegger is playing the Terminator again, and the Star Wars saga is coming back with both the old and a new cast, might there be hope for more Back to the Future? The classic film featured time travel, a nutty professor and Michael J. Fox. It has a massive fan base and seems ripe for the same treatment, if not now then a decade from now. But even if you.re secretly holding out hope for a sequel of some sort, Fox doesn.t want you to hold your breath. According to Radio Times, Fox joined fellow cast mates, such as Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Claudia Wells, Marc McClure, Frances Lee McCain, James Tolkan, Donald Fullilove and Harry Waters Jr., for a Back to the Future retrospective at London Film & Comic-Con this past weekend. While reflecting on...
