Image
Madrid-based Onza, one of Spain’s top indie production-distribution houses, has kicked off filming on Season 2 of hit gridlock comedy series “Traffic Jam” (“Atasco), which is set to premiere on Prime Video Spain.

It has also shared on-set photos in exclusivity with Variety.

Launched May 24 on Prime Video Spain, the first season of the series hit No. 1 on the platform the day after, with an audience warming to the unexpected, comical and engaging stories that unfold in a huge traffic jam on the outskirts of Madrid.

Written and directed by Rodrigo Sopeña, as the series’ Season 1, the six new episodes continue the producers’ bet on a renowned Spanish star cast, this time featuring Silvia Abril, Carlos Sobera (“Little Coincidences”), Adriana Torrebejano, Carlos Areces (“The Last Circus”), Luis Zahera and singer-actress Edurne.

Some actors from Season 1 will reprise their roles in Season 2, the producers said.

Season 1’s stellar cast featured prominent...

4 Harlan Coben Netflix shows to watch after Missing You
Image
Everyone’s tuning in to Missing You on Netflix, and with only five episodes, it’s quick to binge-watch in no time! If you found yourself hooked on this mystery thriller and are craving more of Harlan Coben’s thrilling storytelling, you're in luck.

This New York Times bestselling author has many other shows similar to Missing You streaming on Netflix. This is due to his overall deal with the streamer, which involves him adapting his books into TV shows and movies for the streaming platform. Missing You is his most recent Netflix series adaptation, but many of his other books have already been turned into shows for the streaming service.

However, that doesn't mean they're all entertaining. We would hate for you to waste your time going through the rest of Coben's collection on Netflix without knowing which ones are truly worth the binge. That's why we're about to...

The Invisible Guest Ending & True Meaning Explained
Image
The Invisible Guest, or Contratiempo ("Setback") in the native Spanish, is a 2016 mystery thriller with twists and turns that constantly put into question how much each character knows. One of the more underrated Netflix thrillers, The Invisible Guest comes from Spanish director Oriol Paulo and stars Mario Casas and Ana Wagener. The film had a lukewarm response in Spain when it was released, but since then, it has found popularity in international markets, and since 2016, there have been six remakes in different languages.

This murder mystery thriller begins with businessman Adrián Doria (Casas) getting released on bail after being arrested for the murder of his lover, Laura Vidal (Bárbara Lennie). Adrián was found in a hotel room unconscious with his wife dead in the bathroom and the doors locked from the inside. When a mysterious witness is set to come forward and prove Adrián culpable, Adrián's lawyer brings in an...

Netflix Spain Unveils Plans for Early 2021, Including Seven New Film and TV Originals
Image
At one of its increasingly regular presentations, on Thursday Netflix Spain unveiled seven new projects including “If Only,” a Spanish adaptation of the Netflix Turkish original canceled before shooting by Turkish authorities.

Where once Netflix would host its presentations early in the year and announce its ambitions for the next 12 months, the platform’s original Spanish programming pipeline has grown to an extent that Thursday’s showcase only covers the next few months and hinted at plenty more to come in late 2021.

In both level and volume of production, the day’s announcements confirm Netflix as one of if not the, foremost investors in original Spanish series and movies, at the same as its talent pool is expanding to include ever more of the principal producers in Spain. New Netflix originals are now being produced by now-regular partners Nostromo, producers of “The Minions of Midas”; “Élite” producers Zeta Studios; “Money Heist...

‘Your Son’ [‘Tu Hijo’]: A Father’s Love Leads To Violence In This Gritty Psychological Thriller [Review]
Jaime Jiménez (Jose Coronado) lives an everyman nightmare: A middle-aged surgeon in Sevilla, he drives numbly through rainy streets, with the backdrop of radio presenters murmuring about unemployment and economic dissatisfaction. Jaime is constantly shut out of his daughter Sara’s life (Asia Ortega). Meanwhile, his wife, Carmen (Ana Wagener) is barely a presence in his life. The only tether to the real world is Jaime’s beloved son, Marcos (Pol Monen), a high school-aged runner and his father’s jogging partner, who is, in every way, the golden boy.

Madrid — Spain’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today the nominees for the 33rdedition of the Goya Awards, to be held at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones in Sevilla on Feb. 2, 2019.

Leading the pack with 13 nominations is Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s ultra-current political thriller “The Realm,” which impressed in San Sebastian’s main competition. The film is produced by Spain’s Tornasol and Atresmedia Cine and co-produced by Le Pacte and Mondex Cie out of France.

Spain’s foreign-language Oscar submission “Champions” scored an impressive 11 nominations of its own. The heartwarming dramedy about a special needs basketball team was a breakout hit at the Spanish box office this year, grossing €18.5 million ($21.4 million Usd) for Universal Pictures Intl. Spain.

It would hardly be a Goya Awards ceremony without one of Spain’s big three export acting talents – Banderas, Bardem or Cruz – and this year two are likely to be in attendance,...

Stars: Fernando Cayo, Manuela Vellés, Ana Wagener, Guillermo Barrientos, Dritan Biba, Martijn Kuiper, Xoel Yáñez, Luis Iglesia | Written by Miguel Ángel Vivas, Javier García | Directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas

This Spanish film is the figurative definition of ‘thriller’ (I get told off by my housemate for misuse of literality). Jaime (Fernando Cayo) has just moved to an a beautiful new house with his wife, Marta (Ana Wagener), and daughter, Isa (Manuela Vellés) and already arguments are starting as Isa wants to skip the families first meal together in her new home to meet her boyfriend. None of that matters, however, as the house is broken into that night be three masked men. The leader takes down the card details of each of them and takes Jaime on a drive to get money out while Marta and Isa are left with the other two; one of them a bit crazy and the other very skittish.

'Kidnapped' Movie Review
by Marcey Papandrea, MoreHorror.com

One of the biggest gut punches I’ve had with a film this year comes in the form of Spain’s Kidnapped. I went in thinking I knew what this film was going to be about, and what it would be like. I was wrong, very wrong.

I think one of our deepest fears, is that of violation. Any type of violation, because it leaves us exposed. Kidnapped plays to this fear in the most extreme of ways, if you can’t handle a harsh and hard-hitting film, then leave.

The film begins with an opening scene; we’re not given any context. The only thing we can gather is that whom ever we’re introduced to is going to be in for it.

The real story begins with a regular couple, Jamie (Fernando Cayo) and Marta (Ana Wagener) and their rebellious teenage daughter Isa...

Kidnapped Movie Review 2
Kidnappés (2010)
Title: Kidnapped (Secuestrados) Director: Miguel Angel Vivas Starring: Fernando Cayo, Ana Wagener, Manuela Velles, Guillermo Barrienttos, Martijn Kuiper, Dritan Biba, Xoel Yanez A slick Spanish-French coproduction that was named Best Horror Film at Austin’s Fantastic Fest last year, ‘Kidnapped’ (‘Secuestrados’) is a gritty, efficient home invasion flick that should serve as a solid cinematic calling card debut for co-writer and director Miguel Angel Vivas. Set on the outskirts of Madrid, ‘Kidnapped”s narrative is fairly pedestrian and familiar, and predicated on an audience’s enjoyment of the picture’s propulsive momentum as much as anything else. After a discrete opening segment which finds a bloodied man with a bag over his head stumbling...

Best Horror Feature winner at Fantastic Fest 2010, Miguel Ángel Vivas’ film about a family’s first night in their new home gone wrong may leave audiences in a total state of shock.

Best Horror Feature winner at Fantastic Fest 2010, Miguel Ángel Vivas’ film about a family’s first night in their new home gone wrong may leave audiences in a total state of shock.

Jaime (Fernando Cayo) and Marta (Ana Wagener) have just moved to a remote gated community in Madrid. Their teenage daughter Isa (Manuela Vellés) is not happy about the transition; she constantly and unapologetically fights with her mother. As the family prepares to celebrate their first night in the new house, three men break in and take them hostage. One man takes Jaime out to collect cash from various ATMs in town while the other two stay behind with the women to torment them.

What the family...

Film: Movie Review: Kidnapped
From the opening shot of a bound, prostrate man struggling to breathe with a bloody plastic bag over his head, the Spanish thriller Kidnapped declares that it isn’t kidding around. Miguel Ángel Vivas’ home-invasion drama joins a subgenre well-populated by the likes of Desperate Hours, Funny Games, Panic Room, and The Strangers, and while Kidnapped doesn’t add anything substantially new to the tradition, Vivas hits his marks with ruthless efficiency. He begins with the family: cheery, well-to-do couple Fernando Cayo and Ana Wagener and their huffy teenage daughter, Manuela Vellés. Then he moves them into a house ...

"Kidnapped," Reviewed
Kidnappés (2010)
Originally reviewed at Fantastic Fest 2010.

A hallmark of Spanish horror in recent years has been the long take, something that's been perfected by the disciples of Guillermo del Toro like "The Orphanage"'s Juan Antonio Bayona and "Julia's Eyes"'s Guillem Morales and the filmmakers behind shockers like "[Rec]." Of course, slow burns have always been part of the genre, but the lack of cutaways feel particularly disconcerting to an increasing Add generation and have been used to convey a reality to the terrifying creep of zombies, ghosts and other monsters of the night. Strangely, the trend towards unflinching takes has largely ignored the horror potential of actual reality, something that writer/director Miguel Ángel Vivas appears to be well aware in his arresting sophomore feature.

I wasn't counting, but I'd be surprised to learn if there were more than 50 cuts in "Kidnapped," Vivas' 86-minute endurance test about the home invasion...

‘Kidnapped’ Trailer [Updated]
Kidnappés (2010)
We've run two [1] trailers [2] for the home invasion film Kidnapped in the past, but it's possible that you've passed over them. In the past few weeks, however, the buzz among horror enthusiasts has risen steadily in relation to the film -- it seems like every time I hit a site that covers films like Kidnapped there is someone writing with gusto about their reaction to the movie. It's a pretty simple setup: a small family's evening is violently disrupted when masked men invade their home. There are a couple of unique things about the movie, and it evidently builds to an insane conclusion. IFC is releasing it in June, and there is a new trailer to accompany that release. But be warned: the Spanish-language film is not subtitled, but dubbed in this trailer. I don't understand that at all -- the dubbing is simply awful. So you may want to...

Movie Trailer for the Intense Thriller Kidnapped
Here's a crazy good trailer for an intense looking thriller called Kidnapped from director Miguel Angel Vivas. The movie looks like it could be really good, unfortunately the dubbing in this trailer is awful. I'd much rather watch this movie reading subtitles than have to deal bad dubbing. The story follow a team of criminals who takes a family hostage in their home with the intent to rob them. The family fights back.

The movie hits theaters on June 17th 2011. Watch the trailer below and tell us if it's something you might want to see.

Here's the Synopsis for the film:

Jaime (Fernando Cayo) and Marta (Ana Wagener) are a middle-aged couple with a teenage daughter named Isa (Manuela Velles). The family is in the process of moving into a big new house. Marta wants to gather the family for dinner at home to celebrate. Isa has her own plans...

English-Dubbed Trailer for Miguel Angel Vivas’ Kidnapped
IFC Films has released an English-dubbed trailer for their latest acquisition, director Miguel Angel Vivas’ kidnapped thriller, well, “Kidnapped”. The English dubbing, like the one for Dennis Gansel’s “We Are the Night” feels “off” somehow, and I’m not even one of those cinema purists who automatically hates everything dubbed. But it’s, well, just feels wrong here, especially compared with the original Spanish trailer. That having been said, “Kidnapped” still looks like a pretty intense ride. Jaime (Fernando Cayo) and Marta (Ana Wagener) are a middle-aged couple with a teenage daughter named Isa (Manuela Velles). The family is in the process of moving into a big new house. Marta wants to gather the family for dinner at home to celebrate. Isa has her own plans; she wants to go out with her boyfriend. Jaime is stuck in the middle of it all. Everyone’s evening is ruined when...

Kidnapped Movie Review
Manuela Vellés
Title: Kidnapped Directed By: Miguel Ángel Vivas Starring: Fernando Cayo, Ana Wagener, Manuela Vellés, Xoel Yáñez, Guillermo Barrientos, Dritan Biba, Martijn Kuiper Yes, we want our horror films to be scary, but being too scary is a major genre pitfall. Often this stems from a film being exploitative and dousing us in incredibly gory or disturbing visuals, but sometimes we get the beautiful juxtaposition of a film being so well done that it feels too real. What can be more genuinely horrifying than that? Jaime, Marta (Fernando Cayo and Ana Wagener) and their daughter, Isa (Manuela Vellés), move into a gorgeous new home. Marta wants to have a family dinner...

Kidnapped – Review
There’s nothing as frightening as that feeling you get when you are home alone, late and you start to hear noises. Is it something supernatural? Is it someone trying to get into your house? Is it just the house settling? The only feeling that’s worse than that, is the feeling you have when someone breaks into your house and holds you hostage without giving you any reason. Miguel Ángel Vivas has masterfully crafted a film that makes you feel dread, horror, fear and sorrow all at the same time.

Kidnapped starts out with a shot of someone, somewhere outdoors with a bag on their head. Vivas holds the shot for about 45-60 seconds and the viewer doesn’t know what to make of it. Finally the person takes a breath, but they are having trouble breathing due to the bag. They get up and start running through what...

Alex de la Iglesia's The Last Circus Grabs 15 Goyas (Spanish Oscar Noms)
2010 was the weakest year at the Spanish box office in a decade – proof that the films with the most box office potential fell flat. Actually, very few have performed decently. Ironically the biggest flops and the most coldly received by critics films are the ones top lining the nominations for this year's Spanish Academy Awards, the Goyas. Alex de la Iglesia's “Balada Triste de Trompeta” gathered 15 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Antonio De La Torre), Best Supporting Actress (Terele Pávez) and Best Newcomer Actress (Carolina Bang). “Pan Nere” follows with 14 nominations, the surprise hit by Agustí Villaronga will compete for Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Sergi López), Best Actress (Nora Navas), Best Newcomer Actor (Francesc Colomer) and Best Supporting Actress (Laia Marull). Following Agustí Villaronga's film we find “También la Lluvia” by Icíar Bollaín with 13 nominations fighting for Best Film,...

IFC will bring two more Spanish horror films to U.S. shores.
IFC continues to do themselves proud. They seem to have a love of quality film that is not constrained by genre. My first real experience with them was when they aired the horror themed documentary The American Nightmare over the Halloween season years ago. I was blown away and gained huge respect for the company. I still watch it every now and then to remind myself how good horror can be.

As announced recently IFC will be distributing the french zombie film The Horde and now have added two more foreign horror flicks to their catalog, this time both originating from Spain.

The films are Manuel Carballo’s supernatural chiller Exorcismus and Miguel Ángel Vivas’ home-invasion flick Kidnapped. Both films will be released through the IFC Midnight label theatrically and on its video-on-demand platform in early 2011.

In Exorcismus, a rebellious young girl (Sophie Vavasseur) discovers that she’s possessed by...
