15 Actors Who Almost Starred In Game Of Thrones
Image
If you were a struggling actor in the U.K. in the early 2010s, odds are you probably auditioned for "Game of Thrones." Set in the epic world created by George R.R. Martin and considered one of the best fantasy shows of all time, the series showcased an expansive roster of widely beloved (and horribly loathsome) characters. That cast included all-time greats of British film and theater, like Sean Bean and Charles Dance, as well as future stars like Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington.

However, as with any popular show, many actors auditioned or were offered parts that never materialized, or perhaps not in the way they had anticipated. From future A-listers who HBO unbelievably rejected to big names the show wasn't able to convince to be a part of the pop culture phenomenon, these are 15 actors who were almost cast on "Game of Thrones," but thankfully, for the actors...

Tony Gilroy's favorite 'Andor' scene might not be what you expect
Image
With Season 2 of Andor just weeks away, promotion for the highly anticipated series is ramping up. One way was the official Star Wars YouTube channel hosted a discussion with series creator, Tony Gilroy. There he revealed his favorite scene from Season 1, and it's probably not what you expect.

Via ScreenRant, Gilroy revealed his favorite scene is between Syril Karn, played by Kyler Soller, and his boss Chief Inspector Hyne, played by Rupert Vansittart in episode 1, "Kassa." In the scene, Syril tells Hyne about the murder of two Preox-Morlana guards after they had a run-in with Cassian Andor. Though to be clear, Syril didn't know it was Cassian at that time.

Hyne hears him out, and then dismisses the guards' deaths as an accident, basically telling Syril to drop the case. Syril is horrified that the men won't get justice. However, Hyne doesn't want to bring the Empire to Morlana and...

20 Best Bridgerton Memes That Are The Talk Of The Ton
Image
Where to Watch Powered by

Since it premiered on Netflix in 2020, fans of Bridgerton have shown their love for the series through hilarious memes. Produced by Shonda Rhimes production company Shondaland, Bridgerton incorporates modern storytelling elements when exploring the lives of characters living in London during the Regency period. Based on the Bridgerton romance book series by Julie Quinn, each season of Bridgerton is expected to highlight a different sibling's love story, and there are eight Bridgerton siblings: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth. Daphne was the protagonist of season 1, Anthony season 2, and Colin will be the star of Bridgerton season 3.

The Netflix series takes the best tropes from Regency period dramas like angst, longing, and fantasy and elevates the genre through its diverse cast and steamy scenes. With multiple seasons and a spinoff, Bridgerton is one of Netflix's most-watched series, and more Bridgerton spinoffs are expected because of its success.

Image
Click here to read the full article.

[This story contains spoilers for Andor’s first three episodes, as well as mild references to episode four.]

Throughout the Star Wars franchise, the Imperial characters have mostly been black and white, but with Andor exploring two lesser-known branches of the Empire, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller believe that their characters will add a little more gray to the mix.

Gough’s character, Dedra Meero, who will be introduced in episode four, is a supervisor for the Imperial Security Bureau, and a small detail of the Cassian Andor case falls within her purview, leading her to spearhead an investigation. However, as one of only two women on the Isb’s leadership council, she faces some roadblocks along the way. But for Gough, it’s more than just a matter of gender.

“She sees these other lazy guys getting to have power that they don’t deserve to have. I don’t think she thinks of herself as being a woman in a man’s world.

2018 Gold Derby TV Awards winners: ‘Versace’ and ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ are top winners, but ‘Game of Thrones’ takes Best Drama
Game of Thrones (2011)
The 15th Annual Gold Derby TV Award winners were announced on Thursday, September 6, during a live webcast announcement (watch it above). These prizes were decided by hundreds of Gold Derby users who arguably know more about the television landscape than a lot of TV academy members. And they spread the wealth when picking this year’s recipients. “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” was the biggest winner with four awards, followed by “The Handmaid’s Tale” with three, but the top series prizes actually went to “Game of Thrones” and “Atlanta.”

“Versace” swept the longform categories, claiming Best Limited Series, Best Movie/Mini Actor (Darren Criss), Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actress (Judith Light) and Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor (Cody Fern). The last two prizes in that field went to “USS Callister (Black Mirror)” (Best TV Movie) and “The Tale” (Best Movie/Mini Actress for Laura Dern).

Mark your calendars: the winners of the 15th Annual Gold Derby TV Awards will be announced on Thursday, September 6, at 9:00am Pacific/12:00pm Eastern. There’s still time to vote for your favorite TV shows, episodes and performances, or to edit your ballot if you’ve changed your mind in some categories. But act fast: voting closes on Friday night at 11:00pm Pacific/2:00am Eastern. As I’m writing this, the closest races are coming down to just a handful of votes, so every vote counts.

Of course, I’m not going to tell you which races are close and who between. You’ll have to wait until next Thursday to find that out.

To refresh your memory about this year’s contenders, “This is Us” is the most nominated program of the year with nine bids including Best Drama Series. “The Assassination of Gianni Versace...

Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Brendan Coyle, Joanne Froggatt, Penelope Wilton, Allen Leech, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Lily James, Fifi Hart, and Oliver Barker in Downton Abbey (2010)
SAG Awards predictions head-scratcher: Can ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ win drama without having the biggest cast?
Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Brendan Coyle, Joanne Froggatt, Penelope Wilton, Allen Leech, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Lily James, Fifi Hart, and Oliver Barker in Downton Abbey (2010)
When it comes to the SAG Awards, size often matters. The most massive casts often run off with the ensemble prizes, which explains how “Lost” found victory at the 2005 ceremony, and how “Downton Abbey” (2012) was able to take down two-time champ “Boardwalk Empire” (2010-2011). This year, however, Gold Derby’s SAG TV predictions favor Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” to prevail despite having the second-smallest cast. Are we crazy for going against bigger ensembles?

“The Handmaid’s Tale” boasts 10 cast members on the voting ballot, ahead of only Netflix’s “The Crown” at five. Comparatively, the other nominated dramas each feature more than a dozen actors: HBO’s “Game of Thrones” at 30, Netflix’s “Stranger Things” at 17 and NBC’s “This Is Us” at 13. In recent years “Game of Thrones” and “Downton Abbey” always had the biggest casts, with “Downton” beating the HBO fantasy series in 2014 and 2015.

Foyle's War: Series Creator Was Ready for UK Cancellation
The Foyle's War TV show on ITV was cancelled after eight seasons, because of rising production costs. Creator Anthony Horowitz tells Digital Spy he was ready for the British detective drama series to end. In the Us, some seasons of Foyle's War aired on PBS. The complete Foyle's War TV series is available for streaming on Acorn.TV (but Acorn's series numbering is confusing).

Foyle's War is set during and after World War II, with the eighth and final season set in 1947. Michael Kitchen stars as detective Christopher Foyle. The Doyle's War TV series cast also includes: Honeysuckle Weeks, Ellie Haddington, Tim McMullan, Daniel Weyman, Jeremy Swift, Rupert Vansittart, and Hermione Gulliford.

Littlefinger Returns in Game of Thrones Episode 6.4 Photos
Natalie Dormer
After last week's episode of Game of Thrones, the preview for Sunday night's Book of the Stranger gave us our first look at Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish (Aidan Gillen), who has been mysteriously absent through the first three episodes of Season 6. Of course, the show had more important matters to delve into, such as the resurrection of Jon Snow (Kit Harington). For those who need their Littlefinger fix, rest easy, because today we have new photos from Book of the Stranger featuring a closer look at Littlefinger and more characters from Westeros, including a sibling reunion.

In HBO's preview for Book of the Shadow, Littlefinger is seen telling Robin Arryn (Lino Facioli) and Lord Yohn Royce (Rupert Vansittart) in The Vale that Sansa has escaped from Winterfell and that she is in danger. Last season, it was Littlefinger who helped set up the arranged marriage with the treacherous Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon...

Game Of Thrones season 6: Bran Stark return confirmed
Looking for news, casting, rumours and more about the next season of HBO's Game Of Thrones? Then you've come to the right place...

Latest news

This is news we were all expecting, but welcome nonetheless. After a season's absence, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, aka Bran Stark, will be returning in Game Of Thrones season 6. Presumably, that means catching up with Hodor and Meera, too.

The last we saw the second-to-youngest Stark boy, he had finally completed his quest to meet the Three-Eyed Raven and was about to begin another, a training journey with the Children of the Forest which would teach him more about his Warg powers.

Here's what Hempstead-Wright told The Irish Examiner about Bran's return to the show:

“I can’t say a lot but I am back this season, and it’s going to get particularly interesting with Bran. He has some interesting visions."

"I missed the whole of...

ITV's Foyle's War to end after current series
ITV has announced that Foyle's War will end after its current series.

The long-running period drama starring Michael Kitchen will air its final episode on Sunday (January 18) at 8pm.

The final episode 'Elise' will see Christopher Foyle (Kitchen) solving his final ever case in the two-hour special. It will feature Foyle looking into Hilda Pierce's (Ellie Haddington) secret role during the war, following an assassination attempt on her life.

Writer and creator Anthony Horowitz said: "It feels a terrible wrench to say goodbye to characters I've lived with for more than 15 years. But the truth is that I'm not sure there are any more stories to tell and anyway it was always my intention to end on a high note and I think this year's episodes are the very best we've done.

"I'm proud of what we've achieved with Foyle's War and I'm very grateful to the audience that has...

New 'Game of Thrones' season 4 key art threatens everybody
Game of Thrones (2011)
"Game of Thrones" is known for killing off major characters, often times without warning. A new piece of key art from the upcoming season 4 promises that the trend will continue.  With more and more characters joining the ever-widening "Song of Ice and Fire" fray, it's a good bet that some of them won't last for long, while some more familiar faces will also be in jeopardy.  Feast your eyes on this dire warning: There's that pesky three-eyed crow again, which is never really a good sign. And don't think that the "Men" in the image means that the show's female characters are in the clear, because fans know that's certainly not the case.  Season 4 features returning stars Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Jack Gleeson. Newcomers include Pedro Pascal, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Mark Gatiss, Paola Dionisotti, Rupert Vansittart, and approximately 10,000 others.  "Game of Thrones" returns on April 6 at 9 p.

Foyle’s War Set 7 DVD Review And Giveaway
Foyle’s War Set 7 is a treat for fans of the long-running series, but a possible sour note as well, as our titular investigator actually moves outside the titular conflict. We not only move outside the setting of the show, but into a new world of Foyle’s efforts, and apparently a new theory of the character as well. Call it progress, I suppose, but some fans may find themselves in for a surprise when taking on this new Foyle.

What started out as a very interesting look at an investigator of unusual calm working in a backdrop of World War II outside the normal focus of the war, has now gone post-War, and sees our hero pressed into service with MI5. From not exactly police to not exactly spy, Foyle finds himself involved in ever more curious exploits which leaves us with little remaining familiar except the star and the title.

Foyle’S War Set 7 – The DVD Review
Foyle’s War was considered one of the best British mysteries on television, but was cancelled in 2007. Three years passed and three more episodes, known as Foyle’s War Set 7 were filmed and broadcast on PBS’s “Masterpiece Mystery!” The show’s creator Anthony Horowitz has set the show in the town of Hastings, on the south coast of England. World War II may be over but the Cold War simmers. Dcs Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen, Out of Africa) has retired from police work when Britain’s secret intelligence service compels him to join its ranks. Reunited with his former colleague, newlywed Sam Wainwright (Honeysuckle Weeks – My Brother Tom), Foyle faces new—but no less deadly—threats in the world of spies and counterintelligence The Foyle’s War series is terrific entertainment that incorporates real historical events into the episodes. Foyle always gets his man (or woman as the case...

Austenland – The Review
By Barbie Snitzer

There is an ad for the movie Austenland that has been running in newspapers. The critic’s blurb urges readers to “Grab Your Girlfriends and Go!”

Don’t do this. She’s a reviewer for She Knows. She knows not. Neither does the marketing executive who thought this would be a persuasive pitch.

It’s understandable that said executive would assume Austenland is a “chick flick” a la Sex and the City, but that assumption would reveal he hadn’t seen the movie. It’s not a “chick flick,” nor is it entirely a “rom-com;” it’s simply a comedy, one that can be enjoyed by women and men.

Women: Don’t be put off if you were too busy with your life to get to know star Keri Russell in the television series Felicity (as I was). Equally, don’t be put off if you’ve...

Bret McKenzie Talks Austenland, The Hobbit, The Muppets Sequel, the Flight of the Conchords Tour with Dave Chappelle, What He Collects, and Much More
Opening this weekend in limited release is director Jerusha Hess’ comedy Austenland. The film stars Keri Russell as a woman in her 30s who is so obsessed with the Pride and Prejudice character Mr. Darcy that no real-life man can compare, and her love life pays the toll. She decides to spend her life savings on a trip to a Jane Austen-themed resort in England. Once there, she quickly realizes that finding the perfect Regency-era gentleman may be much more of a challenge than she ever could have imagined. The film also stars Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Seymour, Rupert Vansittart, James Callis, and Bret McKenzie as the male love interest. At the recent Los Angeles press day, I landed an extended video interview with McKenzie. During our wide-ranging conversation he talked about making Austenland, his Sundance experience, how it feels to be an Oscar winner (he won for writing a...

First Trailer for Austenland Starring Keri Russell, Bret McKenzie, and Jane Seymour
The first trailer for director Jerusha Hess’ upcoming comedy Austenland has made its way online. The film stars Keri Russell as a woman in her 30s who is so obsessed with the Pride and Prejudice character Mr. Darcy that no real-life man can compare, and her love life pays the toll. She decides to spend her life savings on a trip to a Jane Austen-themed resort in England. The pic premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to mixed reviews (watch Steve’s video blog reaction here), but this trailer promises an interesting take on the romantic comedy genre with Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie as the male love interest. Jennifer Coolidge looks to be bringing her comedy A-game as always, and I’m interested to see if the film has anything interesting to say about the world of intense fandom or if it just uses...
