5 Adult Animated Series to Watch If You Like ‘King of the Hill’
Image
King of the Hill, created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, is a slice-of-life adult animated series featuring the Hill family, their friends, and neighbors. Set in the fictional town of Arlen, the show finds humor in the quirks of everyday life, capturing blue-collar struggles, family conflicts, and the awkward trials of growing up.

Despite delivering some of the best episodes, King of the Hill was cancelled in 2008 (via Fox News). New episodes continued to air through 2009, with a few additional ones released in 2010. Fortunately, it was renewed for Season 14, which premiered on Hulu on August 4, 2025. If you binged through the show and are looking for more, here is a list of 5 similar animated shows to add to your next binge list.

1. The Simpsons

The Simpsons is one of the beloved animated sitcoms, which not only delivers great entertainment but also some of the best memes. It is the longest-running animated sitcom,...

Five Hilariously Unrequited Sitcom Romances
Image
When one character likes another on a sitcom, you can pretty much count on them eventually getting together. From Niles and Daphne on Frasier, to Jim and Pam on The Office, to Fry and Leela on Futurama, that unrequited love does, at some point, get requited.

There are, however, some funny examples of unrequited romances that actually stay that way — one main character loves another from a distance, and the audience knows it’s utterly hopeless.

Here are five such examples of entirely one-sided sitcom romances…

1 Milhouse and Lisa on ‘The Simpsons’

Milhouse has always been a hopeless romantic, with an emphasis on “hopeless.” From the earliest days of The Simpsons, Milhouse (Pamela Hayden) has harbored a crush on his best friend’s little sister Lisa (Yeardley Smith), and despite both of them being huge nerds, Lisa just doesn’t feel the same way about him. As she explains in “Lisa’s Date with Density,...

Helen Slater in La Légende de Billie Jean (1985)
The Legend of Billie Jean: Box Office Underdog To Cult Classic
Helen Slater in La Légende de Billie Jean (1985)

The Legend of Billie Jean hit theaters on July 19, 1985, bringing a rebel yell that would echo for decades. The Texas-set teen drama, starring Helen Slater and Christian Slater, told the story of a young woman whose fight for justice sparked an unexpected movement. While it debuted in a summer dominated by blockbusters like Back to the Future, this underdog film carved out its own legacy.

The Legend of Billie Jean’s Fight for Justice

The story begins with a vandalized scooter and a demand for $608 in damages. When the situation spirals into violence, Billie Jean and her brother Binx (Christian Slater) go on the run, quickly becoming media sensations.

Channeling the pop culture image of Joan of Arc, Billie Jean chops her hair short — a real-life moment for Helen Slater — and becomes a symbol of youth rebellion. Her rallying cry, “Fair is fair!”, originally the film’s working title,...

Billy Joel Has Aged Into Rory B. Bellows, Krusty the Clown’s Alter Ego
Image
A well-known entertainer runs into financial difficulties. The IRS is coming for him. If he has an affinity for it, maybe he tries his luck on the open water. So goes the story of Krusty the Clown — though it shares some features with the story of Billy Joel, and we need to talk about them.

The relevant incident in Krusty’s life comes in Season Seven of The Simpsons. In the episode “Bart the Fink,” after Bart (voice of Nancy Cartwright) opens a checking account, he figures out that he can get an autograph from Krusty the Clown (Dan Castellaneta) if he sends Krusty a check and gets it back with Krusty’s endorsement. But Krusty doesn’t sign it: He stamps it to an offshore bank, and, long story short, Krusty turns out to be a massive income tax cheat. When the IRS starts seizing property — even turning Krusty Burger into IRS Burger,...

What’s Fair Is Fair: Why ‘The Legend of Billie Jean’ Is Still Invincible, 40 Years Later
Image
In July 1985, the biggest movie in the country was “Back to the Future.” The number one song was “A View to a Kill” by Duran Duran, from the James Bond movie of the same name. A large number of the movies listed in the top 10 the weekend of July 19, even beyond the obvious “Back to the Future,” offer a murderer’s row of movies we still talk about today: “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,” “Cocoon,” “Rambo: First Blood Part II,” “St. Elmo’s Fire.” Just for good measure, “E.T.” was re-released into theaters that weekend.

Do you know what’s difficult? It’s difficult to have a brand-new, wide release film and have it finish 14th at the box office. Want to know what’s even more difficult? To have a brand-new, wide release film finish 14th at the box office, and then, 40 years later, for it to still be culturally...

‘The Simpsons’ Producer Reacts to Exaggerated Reports of Marge’s Death
Image
Ignore the hysteria about Marge Simpson’s death in The Simpsons’ Season 36 finale, “Estranger Things.” The Julie Kavner character passed away in that episode’s storyline, but executive producer Matt Selman said the death isn’t canon. “There is no canon,” Selman explained in a new Variety interview. “The Simpsons doesn’t even have canon!” In “Estranger Things,” Bart and Lisa become estranged and only reclaim their sibling bond years in the future, after Margie dies. Unlike Marge’s epitaph, though, her demise is hardly set in stone. “Obviously, since The Simpsons’ future episodes are all speculative fantasies, they’re all different every time,” Selman said. “Marge will probably never be dead ever again. The only place Marge is dead is in one future episode that aired six weeks ago.” “Estranger Things” aired on May 18, but media coverage of Marge’s death exploded last week. (Example headlines, all from articles...

A Simpsons Producer Confirmed Whether Marge Is Dead After That Season 36 Finale
Image
It's been true the past few years, and it is still true today: "The Simpsons" is still good, people! Even 36 seasons in, the cultural phenomenon has proven to be the one truly reliable American institution left, a staple of television, a titan of pop culture, one of the most influential animated shows of all time.

In season 36 we saw great episodes featuring pairings we don't see that often anymore, like an episode where Homer and his dad create a sport, or one where Bart and his grandpa bond over baseball, and an episode that parodied "The White Lotus" (and killed a character we hadn't seen in decades). And yet, the best two episodes of the season were all about Marge Simpson (Julie Kavner). The first one is titled "P.S. I Hate You" and deals with Marge's need to be liked and the chaos that ensues when her secret hate...

What Does Marge Simpson’s ‘Death’ Mean for the Future of ‘The Simpsons’?
Image
Keeping things fresh in its 36th season, The Simpsons took to drastic measures and murdered one of their most beloved characters: blue-haired matriarch Marge (voiced by Julie Kavner). In the season finale titled “Estranger Things,” which aired on May 18, the show offered a glimpse into the future, revealing Bart and Lisa (voiced by Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith) as estranged adults. The finale’s nostalgic flashback revisited Bart and Lisa’s first introduction to the psychotic cat-and-mouse duo Itchy and Scratchy. But when they discovered that baby sister Maggie also loved the show, their special bond over its hilariously horrifying cartoon violence began to fade, causing the siblings to drift apart, much to Marge’s dismay. Worried that her children will become distant in the future, she lectures her kids about leaning on each other for support in the future. “Whatever you do, don’t drift apart. You share a...

Not NCIS Or Law & Order, But This Animated Sitcom Holds The Record For The Longest-Running Scripted Primetime Series In The U.S.
Image
What Is The Longest-Running Scripted Primetime Series In The US? (Photo Credit – Hotstar)

When I think about long-running primetime scripted shows, NCIS and Law & Order often come to mind. But there’s a show that blows them all away: The Simpsons (via TV Insider). Clocking in at an incredible 36 years and still going strong, it holds the record for the longest-running scripted primetime series in the U.S.

The Simpsons felt like it was always part of my weekly TV routine. Sure, its later seasons have gotten mixed reviews, but it’s been heavily entertaining and often downright hilarious across nearly four decades.

The Simpsons: Where It All Began

What struck me most was how this dysfunctional Springfield family shaped popular culture. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie were literal mirrors reflecting America’s quirks, flaws, and absurdities. After 36 seasons and 790 episodes (at the time of writing), the show’s satirical edge remained sharp,...

The Simpsons Showrunner Addresses if Main Voice Cast Members Are 'Replaceable'
Image
As The Simpsonshas been on the air since the 1980s, the Matt Groening-created show's starring cast members have has their voices become synonymous with their characters. However, as there have been some characters getting recast on the show, some fans might be wondering if that might happen with one of the show's main cast members.

The Simpsons has now managed to get through Season 36 with the same voice cast members voicing the family from the very start: Dan Castellaneta (Homer), Julie Kavner (Marge), Nancy Cartwright (Bart), and Yeardley Smith (Lisa). The same can be said for the show's other main cast members, each of whom voices a slew of beloved side characters: Harry Shearer and Hank Azaria.

In a new interview Cracked, showrunner Matt Selman was asked about the possibility of the show's main characters continuing on past their current actors voicing them. He admitted that it would be...

‘New Girl’ Stars Reunite on This Weekend’s ‘The Simpsons’
Image
Beloved Fox sitcom New Girl is getting a belated spoof from one of its network brethren, and two of the show's stars are along for the ride. Zooey Deschanel and Max Greenfield will lend their voices to this week's episode of The Simpsons. "Estranger Things," the thirty-sixth season finale of the undying animated series, will air this Sunday night on Fox and stream on Hulu the next day. Entertainment Weekly has a first look at Deschanel and Greenfield's appearances on the series.

In the clip, Lisa (Yeardley Smith) is watching the sitcom Quirk Girl on her tablet; she describes it as being "from the golden age of television: 2013." A thinly-veiled parody of New Girl, it stars a Deschanel lookalike who, Lisa gushes, "made it okay for cute girls to be pretty." Greenfield voices her roommate, the slick ladies' man Schultz, who's just borrowed a dog to help him pick up women.

New Girl Stars Reunite to Spoof Their Own Sitcom in The Simpsons Season 36 Finale Sneak Peek

Jess and Schmidt from New Girl are reuniting - kind of. For seven seasons, Zooey Deschanel and Max Greenfield played Jess Day and Schmidt on the Emmy-nominated Fox series New Girl. New Girl ran for seven seasons from 2011 to 2018.

Now, Deschanel and Greenfield (The Neighborhood) are essentially reprising their New Girl roles, but with a twist, in the Season 36 finale of The Simpsons, airing on May 18. Per Entertainment Weekly, Deschanel and Greenfield are parodying their characters in the episode. A clip of the scene can be watched below.

"It Was a Cool Idea": Emilio Estevez Wrote a Sequel to Stephen King's Bonkers 'Maximum Overdrive' Film
Image
Stephen Kinghas become the master of horror, with dozens of his works adapted into film and television, but one of his most infamous projects rises above all the others: Maximum Overdrive. The 1986 film marked King's sole directorial effort, with the author swearing off directing afterward due to the insanity of making the film. But it has become a cult classic for its campy, bonkers nature, and star Emilio Estevezrecently revealed that he even scripted a sequel.

"I started to imagine what a sequel to Maximum Overdrive would look like, and during the [2023 Hollywood] strike, I wrote one," Estevez told Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast. "I don't have the rights to any of this... I started on page one, now I'm on page 10, I'm on page 20, now it's 50 pages, and I can't stop." Estevez added more about the premise of his truly wild-sounding sequel:

"I created an insane world.

Stephen King at an event for Un crime dans la tête (2004)
Maximum Overdrive 2: Emilio Estevez pitched and wrote a sequel to his Stephen King movie
Stephen King at an event for Un crime dans la tête (2004)
Stephen King has written hundreds of short stories and more than sixty novels, but he has only directed one movie: the goofball 1986 film Maximum Overdrive (watch it Here). King has avoided directing ever since and star Emilio Estevez has said that not only does he regret working on the movie, but that King has even begged Estevez to forgive him for getting him into that mess. But Estevez doesn’t regret his involvement with Maximum Overdrive so much that it would keep him from working on a sequel – in fact, he pitched and wrote a script for a Maximum Overdrive 2 himself!

Based on King’s short story Trucks, Maximum Overdrive has the following synopsis: After a comet causes a radiation storm on Earth, machines come to life and turn against their makers. Holed up in a North Carolina truck stop, a group of survivors must fend for themselves against a mass of homicidal trucks.

The core cast of "The Simpsons" includes Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith (who gets the best episodes), Julie Kavner, Hank Azaria, Maggie Roswell, Pamela Hayden, Russi Taylor, and Harry Shearer. Marcia Wallace was also part of the cast until her death in 2013, playing Bart Simpson's cantankerous teacher Mrs. Krabappel. Albert Brooks frequently guest-starred in the show's early years. Each member of the core cast, however, plays multiple roles throughout "The Simpsons," including single lines from background characters. Yes, this list will include every single role that "Simpsons" actors play, no matter how small. The numbers are culled from various sourced, mostly fan-run wikis, and analyzed through...

Sitcoms’ 9 Most Sheltered Sweeties

The series premiere of St. Denis Medical, which launched on NBC last fall, employs a time-tested trick for getting the audience up to speed on a workplace show’s setting and cast: starting on someone’s first day. In this case, the newcomer is Matt, an ER nurse from Montana. While that description primes his colleagues to expect someone tough and rugged, Matt is played by Mekki Leeper, so he’s kind of short, definitely slight and very nervous.

Matt finds his new situation overwhelming partly because he’s working in a hospital ER, and partly because he grew up on an extremely strict religious compound, so he doesn’t have much practice interacting with secular strangers. This means he missed a lot of pop culture, but he is extremely conversant about the Bible! It also means that, even as a medical professional, he’s suspicious of organ donation; he...

Batman Is Armed With This New Comic DC Multiverse Figure From McFarlane Toys
Image
In the last 85-plus years, Batman has seen countless iterations. Whether it's found on the comic book page, in a film or a TV series, everyone has their preferred Batman as well as the style in which The Caped Crusader operates. McFarlane Toys has covered many of these different Dark Knights in their DC-centric figure lines. Now, their latest Batman figure takes the character back to his brutal routes.

A part of McFarlane's DC Multiverse seven-inch scale Collector Edition sub-series, their latest Batman figure (Collector Edition #34) is based on the four-part 1987 Detective Comics story “Batman: Year 2.” One of the artists on that comic was Todd McFarlane, and this Batman looks to be recreating his signature exaggerated style. The most noticeable thing the figure comes with is a gun, specifically Joe Chill’s gun. This was the criminal who murdered Bruce Wayne’s parents. This piece is being introduced in the...

The Simpsons Holds An Awards Record That Won't Be Beaten Anytime Soon
Image
"The Simpsons" debuted shortly before Christmas in 1989, which means anyone under the age of 35 has never known a world without it. "The Simpsons" wasn't just a hit, but a cultural fulcrum point. Matt Groening's cynical worldview, filtered through an animated takedown of traditional American sitcoms, came to define the prevailing attitudes of the nation in the 1990s. We were over-educated, embittered by the excesses of the Reagan years, and ready to see television mutate into something punky and deconstructionist. "The Simpsons" was at the heart of that.

And then, even as the 1990s ended, "The Simpsons" never dipped in quality, turning out a full decade of invaluable TV comedy. While public attitudes shifted in the early 2000s ("shock" humor and post-9/11 despair came to define the era), "The Simpsons" persisted. The makers of the show found they could simply keep on working for as long as audiences were interested.

Every The Simpsons Character Voiced By Harry Potter Star Daniel Radcliffe
Image
"The Simpsons" is well-known for its wide array of surprise celebrity guest stars. These actors stop by the show for a lot of reasons, ranging from "It's an easy gig" to "I'm friends with the producers." With Daniel Radcliffe, who famously played Harry Potter for eight movies in a row, it seems he joined the show simply because he liked the series -- that and because he was famous enough that the series liked him back.

"I feel like for a lot of people growing up in England, there are things I know about America and American culture," Radcliffe explained on "The Kelly Clarkson Show" in 2022. "Like, by the time I was eight years old, I was like, 'Bismarck is the capital of North Dakota.' And I know that because of 'The Simpsons.'" He went on to add:

"There's a ton of movie stuff and references...

The Simpsons' 10 Best Parody Episodes Ranked
Image
"The Simpsons" is one of the best TV shows in history, and certainly one of the most influential. It's an American institution that changed both animated comedy and animation on TV forever. It also set a standard for how to build a lived-in fictional television universe, creating a large ensemble of side and background characters (like Harry Shearer's Dr. Marvin Monroe) that make Springfield feel like a living place.

For over 35 years, "The Simpsons" has delivered half-hour episodes of television that are heartfelt, outrageous, and hilarious. The show has also commented on and lampooned both contemporary sociopolitical issues and pop culture in all its forms, whether it's anime, indie film darlings, or classic horror stories. Indeed, it seems no movie, TV show, or book out there is safe from being parodied by "The Simpsons," just as there's seemingly nary a famous person who can avoid eventually paying a visit to Springfield.

Nancy Cartwright's Voice For One Beloved Simpsons Character Was Made Up On The Spot
Image
Most fans of "The Simpsons" are already aware that a lot of its characters are voiced by the same person. Dan Castellaneta, for instance, doesn't just voice Homer; he also voices Grampa Simpson, Krusty the Clown, Groundskeeper Willie, Mayor Quimby, Sideshow Mel, and even Santa's Little Helper. Harry Shearer, meanwhile, does the voice for Ned Flanders, Lenny, Principal Skinner, Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Kent Brockman, Otto, Reverend Lovejoy, and so on.

When it comes to the kid characters who aren't Lisa (voiced by Yeardley Smith), the show usually relies on Nancy Cartwright. In addition to her most famous role, Bartholomew "Bart" Simpson, Cartwright voices Todd Flanders, Ralph Wiggum, Kearney Zzyzwicz, Database, and even Maggie Simpson. She also voices the school bully, Nelson Muntz, although she wasn't the original choice for the role. In her 2001 memoir, "My Life as a Boy," Cartwright wrote about how voice actress Dana Hill was first...

15 Wild Things Fans Don't Know About Stephen King’s Maximum Overdrive
Image
Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive is one of the most bizarre and infamous films of the 1980s. Released in 1986, it remains the only movie King has ever directed, and the experience was as chaotic and wild as the film itself. Adapted from his short story"Trucks," the film tells the story of machines turning against humans after a comet passes by Earth. While it's a cult classic for many, the film's production was fraught with challenges, controversies, and unexpected twists that even the most dedicated King fans might not know about.

From casting choices that never happened to on-set accidents, the making of Maximum Overdrive is as much a horror story as the film itself. This chaotic production was marked by a combination of creative ambition and personal struggles for King. While the film has been criticized for its over-the-top nature, it’s also a fascinating glimpse into King’s...
