Max has renewed “Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake” for a second season.

A spinoff of “Adventure Time,” which ran on Cartoon Network from 2010 to 2018, the series follows Fionna (Madeleine Martin) and her sidekick, Cake (Roz Ryan), who find themselves in the crosshairs of a powerful new foe, leaving them with no choice but to seek the help of Simon Petrikov, the former Ice King (Tom Kenny). Kumail Nanjiani will not be returning to the Adventure Time universe in the new spinoff Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake and that’s because he was never informed of the offer to reprise his voice role of Prismo.

The new Max animated series will not have Nanjiani voice Prismo, something that the Eternals actor would have loved to have done again.

“Yeah that’s not me. I would have loved to have voiced Prismo again. He’s one of my absolute favorite characters I’ve ever had the honor of playing. He is very close to my heart,” Nanjiani shared in a since-deleted post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Unfortunately they never asked me to come back and voice him again. I would have done it for free.”

Showrunner Adam Muto replied to the actor denying that the production hadn’t reached out to offer him the Prismo role again.

Max and Adult Swim executive Suzanna Makkos explained why the upcoming Adventure Time spinoff Fionna & Cake is best suited for a young adult demographic.

Beginning Monday, March 10, one of the Chicago family's most celebrated performers, stage and screen veteran Roz Ryan, returns to the role of Matron 'Mama' Morton.

On Friday, August 30, the company is pleased to welcome Ryan Silverman The Phantom of the Opera, Passion in his debut engagement in the role of 'that silver-tongued Prince of the Courtroom' Billy Flynn. He'll be joined on by celebrated Chicago veteran Roz Ryan Dreamgirls, 'Amen', who returns as Matron 'Mama' Morton on Sunday, September 1. And beginning Monday, September 2, acclaimed leading lady and Latina superstar Bianca Marroquin reprises her star-making turn as 'foxy' Roxie Hart.

TV show description:

Rickey Smiley (playing a fictional version of himself), is a popular, local DJ based in Atlanta. He's also the single father of three children. The show's stories are derived from Rickey's attempts to raise his children while still having a personal life. In addition, the stories come from situations at his job at the radio station.

At work, Rickey deals with characters like radio station manager Maurice (J. Anthony Brown) -- also known as "Mo Sweets" in his earlier rap career -- and Kenny (Ray J.), Rickey's producer and protégé.

Your reactions to the new series, which debuted last September on TV One, weren't the most favorable, based on comments I read on this blog. Scandalous Neil Simon Theatre, NYC

Well, you can't blame the cast, and shaking one's fists at God seems pointless, but regardless of who's at fault, Scandalous, the new musical playing at the Neil Simon, is painful enough to make even the most fervent believers question their faith in musical theater. Armed with a heavily plotted story and the general mirth of a crucifixion, this musical is sadly beyond salvation.

It all begins with a poorly selected and misleading title that makes us feel we're about to see something tawdry, or at least mildly titillating; instead we are pushed through the life story of Aimee Semple McPherson, a woman we hardly care about and who would be much better served by a more objective Ken Burns documentary.

I'm the first to admit that I'm not current on what's going on, and never have been; but what I do know about comedian and radio show DJ Rickey Smiley, is that he's a really big deal south of the Mason/Dixon line. They may not know him in New York or Chicago, but he packs them in, in Birmingham and Macon. Neil Patrick Harris stars as Prince Gumball in Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake, a gender-swapping, parallel universe episode featuring the female "Fionna" and her cat "Cake."

The episode premieres Monday, Sept. 5 at 8 p.m. (Et/Pt). No appearance by Neil Patrick Harris would be complete with out a song.

Adventure Time introduces viewers to unlikely heroes Finn and Jake, buddies who traverse the mystical Land of Ooo and encounter its colorful inhabitants. The best of friends, our heroes always find themselves in the middle of heart-pounding escapades.
