‘The Barn Part III’ Exclusive Poster Reveal + Felissa Rose & More Horror Icons Join the Cast
Image
Indie fan favorites The Barn and The Barn Part II, both of which are now streaming on Screambox, celebrated Halloween in throwback style, and the success of those films has paved the way for The Barn Part III. Director Justin Seaman is now raising finishing funds for the project over on Indiegogo, and Bloody Disgusting has the exclusive poster reveal.

Additionally, we’ve learned that horror icons Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), William Ragsdale (Fright Night) and John Kassir (“Tales from the Crypt”) have joined The Barn Part III.

The Barn Part III is set to be the final chapter of the Halloween horror franchise, and Seaman says it’s going to be “a little bit more serious” than the previous two installments. He teases, “Of course we’re going to have monsters killing and splattering guts everywhere, but the stakes are a little higher. We’re going to wrap this...

The Barn (2016)
The Barn Part III: retro slasher sequel adds John Kassir, the voice of the Cryptkeeper, to the cast
The Barn (2016)
Eight years have passed since writer/director Justin M. Seaman brought us the 1989-set slasher The Barn (check out my review Here, get the movie Here). A sequel has followed in that time, and now Seaman is working on wrapping up the trilogy with a film appropriately titled The Barn Part III. The Barn and The Barn Part II (get that one Here) featured genre icons like Ari Lehman (who played young Jason Voorhees in the original Friday the 13th), legendary scream queen Linnea Quigley, drive-in movie critic Joe Bob Briggs, Diana Prince (a.k.a. Darcy the Mail Girl), Troma’s own Lloyd Kaufman, and Hellraiser star Doug Bradley. The Barn Part III is also going to feature some familiar faces, as we’ve previously heard that the cast includes Children of the Corn‘s Courtney Gains and Kelli Maroney of Night of the Comet and Chopping Mall. 'Terrifier' Team Announces Sequel to 2024 Horror Gem 'Stream'
Image
Among all the horror films of 2024 that garnered a lot of attention, there was one hidden gem that flew under the radar despite having a 95% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Titled Stream, it marked the first appearance of Tim Curry on the big screen in 14 years, and was one of the last movies to star Tony Todd before his untimely death. Now, it's getting a sequel thanks to Fuzz on the Lens Productions, the same team who had a hand in the two most recent Terrifier films.

Per Bloody Disgusting, Stream 2 will "build on its predecessor's all-too-real technology-driven storyline while still maintaining the feel of a classic slasher." Fans who have seen it will recall that Stream's plot centered around a vacationing family who were the unwitting participants in a live-streamed game that featured four serial killers competing to see which one of them could score the most creative kills.

A Hard Place Review: Stuck Between a Creature and an Underdeveloped Plot
Image
The cinematic landscape is littered with tales of unfortunate souls stumbling into the wrong place at the wrong time. “A Hard Place” confidently throws its hat into this ring, presenting a scenario where a desperate band of criminals, fresh from a misdeed, seeks refuge only to find themselves unwitting participants in a supernatural turf war.

This film sets out to mix the grit of a crime story with the outlandishness of a creature feature, promising an experience packed with monstrous confrontations and a high body count. The initial ingredients are familiar, yet the recipe’s success hinges on how these elements are combined and cooked.

An Ill-Advised Itinerary

The narrative engine of “A Hard Place” sputters to life with a conventional catalyst: a heist undertaken by a small, somewhat disorganized gang, which inevitably deviates from its intended smooth execution. This misstep necessitates a swift departure and a period of lying low.

Bruce Springsteen’s Sister Is Out for Blood in This Campy ‘80s Slasher Sequel
Image
1983’s Sleepaway Camp is a cult classic, a slasher film made in the vein of Friday the 13th (but with a camp full of campers), with some clever kills and a controversial twist ending that stands as one of the most shocking in the genre’s history. Like most horror films, it did well enough to warrant a follow-up, 1988’s Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers. Not only is the sequel delightfully unhinged, but it has a surprising connection to none other than the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen, the subject of the 2024 documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. Picking up from where Felissa Rose left off, Bruce’s sister Pamela Springsteen takes over the role of Angela Baker, one of the genre's most prolific killers.

Resurrected Anchor Bay Entertainment to Release ‘Crust,’ ‘Cursed in Baja,’ ‘Abruptio’ on Blu-ray
Image
The recently resurrected Anchor Bay Entertainment will release a trio of new indie horror films on Blu-ray and DVD on December 10: Crust, Cursed in Baja, and Abruptio.

Character actor Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) makes his feature directorial debut on Crust, an offbeat horror-comedy about a sock monster that he co-wrote with Jim Wald.

Whalen stars with Daniel Roebuck (Terrifier 3), Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), and Ricky Dean Logan (Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare).

In Crust, “Vegas Winters is a former child star who owns a laundromat. One of the benefits of running the place is finding all the leftover socks from his customers, which Vegas uses in creative ways. After Vegas becomes the victim of bullying, he seeks refuge from the attack in the pile of socks. His pain somehow creates a monster willing to seek vengeance for Vegas.”

‘The Forest Hills’ Review – A Confusing Psychological Werewolf Movie
Image
More often than not, psychological torment and werewolf horror go hand in hand. Becoming one of these howling, hirsute monsters of the night is no easy experience, physically or emotionally speaking. And in The Forest Hills, Scott Goldberg taps into that anguish and then some with both enthusiasm and awkwardness. The movie’s protagonist endures the most monstrous manifestation of his internal nightmare. Chaotic storytelling and imagery are instrumental in achieving such an upsetting outcome, but they also make for a challenging watch.

Chiko Mendez plays Rico, a man whose current station in life has only exacerbated his mental distress. Rico has since returned home to care for his estranged and ill mother, who is played by the late Shelley Duvall. Their relationship is turbulent, to say the least. And the carnage and disorder that soon follow are undeniably influenced by that dysfunction. Duvall’s character impacts the whole movie,...

Why Terrifier 2s Bedroom Scene Is So Controversial
Image
Just when it seemed like modern slasher films were starting to lose steam, the Terrifier franchise stormed in to provide an incredible horror experience, thanks to Damien Leone's phenomenal direction and screenplay. The franchise has firmly established Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) as one of the most iconic villains of horror cinema, alongside Michael Myers, Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, and many others.

The original Terrifier film was a huge success, generating over $400,000 on a $35,000 budget, but Terrifier 2 took things to the next level, earning a staggering $15.7 million on a $250,000 budget. While the majority of its success may be attributed to the significant rise in the production budget, the controversial bedroom sequence accounts for a large portion of the film's popularity. So, what exactly made it so controversial?

The Forest Hills: werewolf movie clips and promos offer a preview of Shelley Duvall’s final performance
Shelley Duvall in Saturday Night Live (1975)
The legendary Shelley Duvall sadly passed away back in July at the age of 75 – but not long before she passed, she returned to acting after a twenty year break to take a role in the creature feature The Forest Hills (and, by the way, the creature in question is a werewolf). That movie is now set to reach theatres in the United States and Canada on October 4th, and with that release just a couple of days away, we’ve gotten our hands on some clips and promos, which you can check out in the embed above. Our review of the film can be read at This Link.

Written and directed by Scott Goldberg, The Forest Hills tells the story of a man who is tormented by nightmarish visions after enduring head trauma while camping in the Catskill woods.

The Forest Hills Review: Shelley Duvall’s Final Film
Image
Plot: Rico fears that werewolves lurk in the nearby forest, but the danger could all be in his head.

Review: After being absent from the screen for over twenty years, Shelley Duvall made her return to acting with director Scott Goldberg’s horror film The Forest Hills – and the movie has gotten a good amount of attention for having Duvall in the cast. She was a Texas college student when she basically just fell into an acting career. She happened to meet director Robert Altman at a party while he was in Texas shooting his 1970 movie Brewster McCloud. Intrigued by her “upbeat presence and unique physical appearance,” the director and crew members talked Duvall into taking a role in the film. Suddenly she was an actress who started racking up credits: Nashville, Annie Hall, The Shining, Popeye, Time Bandits, Roxanne, The Portrait of a Lady, and fifty more, including hosting her own TV show,...
