Some of the biggest television show premieres of all time are long-lasting and classic sitcoms, while others have been forgotten over time. In the bygone era of gathering around the TV at a set time, new shows that premiered on the big networks always had a chance to make a splash with audiences.

Her money was managed by her father, leading to a legal battle between her husband and family over her estate. Selena, a confident Aries, is celebrated nationwide every year on her birthday, April 16, by fans.

Selena Quintanilla, "Queen of Tejano Music", the "Tejano Madonna", and arguably one of the greatest Latino artists of all time, had a net worth to match, one that she tragically never got to fully put to use. Known simply as "Selena", the popstar from Texas was a music sensation, with several Spanish-language hits, including "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom," "Amor Prohibido," and "Como La Flor," songs which made her a crossover hit Spanish and English-speaking fans loved. The Conga Room is closing its doors.

The Short-Lived All In The Family Spinoff Norman Lear Wished He Could Have Finished
Image
Norman Lear, who recently passed away at the age of 101, transformed the network television sitcom in the 1970s by confronting America's cultural contentiousness head-on and daring viewers to laugh at a bigot like Archie Bunker on "All in the Family" or the white-folks-hating George Jefferson on "The Jeffersons." People were more than ready to accept this challenge. "All in the Family" was the top-rated show on television for six of its nine seasons, while "The Jeffersons" ranked in the top 10 for four of its remarkable 11 seasons. Along with "Good Times," "Sanford and Son," "Maude," "One Day at a Time" and "Diff'rent Strokes," Lear basically dominated the decade. It was a creative hot streak that's never been matched and one that Lear could never replicate.

After the 1978 premiere of "Diff'rent Strokes," Lear went ice cold. "The Baxters" and "Palmerstown, USA" only hung around for two seasons, while "Hanging In" and "aka...

15 Movies from the 2000s That You Probably Haven't Watched -- But Should
Image
The 2000s were all about recovering from Y2K, wearing low-rise jeans and cargo pants, and listening to mixed CDs, though those eventually got loaded onto the new iPod. On television, reality TV got its beginning with the premiere of Survivor on May 31, 2000, and film franchises like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and Pirates of the Caribbean ruled the box office.

Movies in the 2000s also had some not-so-great trends, like torture horror (Hostel), raunchy frat boy comedies (Road Trip), and fat suits (The Nutty Professor), but the decade also came with some of the most beloved films of the last 30 years, including The Dark Knight (2008), Mean Girls (2004), and Iron Man (2008), which kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With all the incredible films released between 2000 and 2009, there are bound to be some that audiences have missed, and now is the perfect time to catch up.

15 Best Skateboarding Movies, Ranked
Image
Although the dangerous street sport rose to prominence during the 1970s, the best skateboarding movies are few and far between. The best examples of the subgenre usually belong to documentary films, with their narrative counterparts failing to register with the same sort of lasting authenticity. The dramatized versions that do resonate usually feature a real-life professional skater in a starring role or as an executive producer or technical consultant. That being said, general moviegoers tend to favor skating movies more than critics have over the years.

Movies about skateboarding continue to be fan-favorite films with viewers. They're a certain type of genre of sports movie that is different than most and oftentimes are more dramatic in their storytelling. There are also a large number of documentary movies about skateboarding that have been made either about the professional skateboarding industry itself or about particular skaters, but there are also fictionalized movies about skateboarding as well.

"The Brothers Garcia" Is Being Revived For a New Series
Image
Image Source: YouTube user HBO Max

HBO Max is reviving another classic series for its latest reboot project. "The Brothers Garcia," the hit Latinx sitcom that aired on Nickelodeon in the early 2000s, is being reimagined as a new series called "The Garcias."

The reboot aims to bolster US Latinx representation to create a "sense of normalcy" and dismantle stereotypes. "The Brothers Garcia" was considered groundbreaking for being the first English-language sitcom to have an all-Latinx cast and creative team. This time, 81 percent of the cast of "The Garcias" is Latinx, while the other 19 percent are Asian and Pacific Islander Americans (Apia).

"The Brothers Garcia" ran for four seasons from 2000 to 2004. Some of the original members of the Garcia family will reunite in the forthcoming reboot. The series, which has been ten years in the making, will make its way to HBO Max on April 14. Jeff Valdez - who co-created...

One of the added highlights of the event is the Billy Eichner-hosted Stand Out: An LGBTQ + Celebration. The celebration is happening in 2022, (although postponed from 2020) in the wake of the October 2021 Netflix controversy that saw LGBTQ employees stage an office walkout due to what they considered to be transphobic content during Dave Chappelle’s Netflix comedy special, The Closer. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos received backlash due to two internal emails — sent out on the same day and leaked days apart — in which he defended Chappelle and argued that...

A Million Little Things Season 3 Episode 12 Review: Junior
Romany Malco, Grace Park, James Roday Rodriguez, Stephanie Szostak, David Giuntoli, Christina Moses, Allison Miller, and Floriana Lima in A Million Little Things (2018)
It's deceptively simple installments like this one that keeps fandom coming back to the series time and again.

When it comes to forward movement with any significant plot points, A Million Little Things Season 3 Episode 12 didn't make as much headway.

But the hour was satisfying with humor, warmth, drama, and an overwhelming sense of sadness by the end. It's life.

The summary for the hour stated that the Howards would end up watching the George Floyd video. It was easy for it to slip the mind as the Howard family carried on like a normal, loving, hilarious family.

Tyrell fits in with them perfectly, and they dominated with the humor and charm throughout this installment.

They felt like they had an entire family sitcom on the side. They could carry a series of their own.

As you looked on with mirth, pleased as punch with the way Gina and Rome...

Grey’s Anatomy had to know when it brought back Sarah Drew for the May 6 episode that viewers were going to want one thing: more. And, says the actress, who played April Kepner for nine years, they just might get it. “The beauty and the magic of Grey’s Anatomy is that I don’t think there’s real closure to any character.

“I mean, you can even die on the show,” she adds with a laugh, “and come back on a beach, you know what I mean?”

Salma Hayek Reflects on ‘Desperado’ Casting: ‘Studio Wanted Cameron Diaz as a Mexican’
Image
This year’s 25th anniversary of Robert Rodriguez’s “Desperado” means it’s also the 25th anniversary of Salma Hayek getting her breakthrough Hollywood role. Hayek was already a major star in Mexico in the early 1990s thanks to her role on the hugely popular telenovela “Teresa.” In an interview with Elle this week, the Oscar-nominated actress reflected on making the jump to Hollywood and the casting process that ensued for “Desperado.”

Hayek got on Rodriguez’s radar after he watched a 1992 interview between the actress and Univision talk show host Paul Rodriguez in which she expressed a desire to increase Latinx representation in Hollywood. Asked by the host why she would risk her career by heading to Hollywood, where it was rare for Latina actresses to be cast in high profile roles, Hayek responded, “I’m going to change it. It’s not normal.” That was enough for Robert...

Nanci Ryder Dies: Longtime Publicist & BWR Co-Founder Was 67
Image
Nanci Ryder, the longtime Hollywood publicist and PR agency exec whose clients included Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael J. Fox, died today of Als complications in Los Angeles. She was 67.

Ryder had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, in 2014. She lost her ability to speak, walk and more but was adamant about keeping up the fight against Als however she could — mostly using a tablet to communicate. Many friends and colleagues joined her in the battle against Als.

During her 30-year-plus career, Ryder earned a reputation as one of the industry’s most influential publicists, with an ability to recognize and cultivate emerging talent. She mentored many of the mainstays in talent public relations, some of whom have gone on to establish their own practices.

Born in Orlando, Ryder spent her youth on Long Island. In 1979 she moved to Los Angeles,...

Nanci Ryder, who co-founded Baker/Winokur/Ryder (Bwr) Public Relations more than three decades ago, representing top stars such as Reese Witherspoon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael J. Fox and Courteney Cox, died Thursday of motor neuron disease Als (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). She was 67.

Ryder was diagnosed with Als in August 2014 and stepped down from Bwr soon after. She went public with her diagnosis in October 2014 and told press — communicating by means of a tablet — that she would dedicate the rest of her life to raising awareness of the disease and finding a cure for it.

Known for her wicked sense of humor and devotion to four-letter words, she continued to tap out jokes long after she lost her voice.

Ryder was a mentor to many in talent public relations who have gone on to practices of their own.

Ryder founded Bwr in 1984, working with clients including Paul Reiser, Helen Hunt,...

Rodriguez first met Dennis when the struggling actor was performing at Hollywood’s Christ the King Catholic Church fundraiser organized by Catholic Laughs stand-up comedy night to assist the homeless.
