On March 14, 1972, one of the greatest movies ever made hit theaters. Months later, The Godfather would be crowned the highest-grossing film of the year, and later the highest-grossing Hollywood production, making approximately $250 million globally. Two years later, the film’s impact was still being felt. When the television rights were sold for a record $10 million to NBC for a single showing in 1974, the mob movie attracted a surprisingly large audience with an average Nielsen rating of 38.2 and an audience share of 59%, making it the eighth most-watched film on television at the time.

Dexter — a punchy indictment of all-too-common prosecutorial failures — remains as stingingly relevant as ever. For lovers of tales about clever, meticulous, and oft-weird characters, the show will never expire. And things are seemingly getting better. The crime drama’s fans never thought they’d have it this good, considering how poorly things ended the first time around. Debra’s death and Dexter’s happy ending arc in the finale left a bad taste in fans’ mouths. Beyond that, the final season, in general, was considered weak by most critics, scoring 35% on Rotten Tomatoes (the lowest for any season). Thankfully, the brilliant minds at Showtime have made serious efforts to write the wrongs.

Frederic Forrest, the character actor known for his roles in The Rose, Apocalypse Now, and several other Francis Ford Coppola films, has died at 86. Friend and fellow actor Barry Primus told The Hollywood Reporter he passed at his home in Santa Monica after a long illness.

Born on December 23rd, 1936 in Waxahachie, Texas, Forrest served in the Army and studied radio and television studies and theater arts at Texas Christian University before beginning his acting career. In 1966, he appeared in an off-Broadway production of Viet Rock, while he made his film debut in 1972’s When the Legends Die, for which he was nominated for the Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer.

Actor Frederic Forrest has passed away. Per THR, the actor, perhaps best known for his roles in The Rose and Apocalypse Now, died after a long illness according to Barry Primus, a fellow actor and personal friend. He was 86 years old.

Forrest's The Rose co-star Bette Midler had previously been encouraging fans to raise money to help pay for caregiving expenses for Forrest. Two GoFundMe pages were created to help pay for the 24/7 care he needed. Following his passing, Midler shared a message of tribute, thanking those who were there to support the ailing actor while remarking on the loss of a "brilliant human being."

Irene Papas and Susan Strasberg are married to the mob, while veteran hoods Luther Adler and Eduardo Ciannelli provide the menacing atmosphere. Director Martin Ritt was supposedly not thrilled with the project yet it’s a polished, involving crime-time drama set both in New York City and Palermo, Sicily.

Kyle and Swin are drug couriers who live by the orders of an Arkansas-based drug kingpin named Frog, whom they've never met. But when a deal goes horribly wrong, the consequences are considerably deadly, as Frog mistakenly sees them as a threat to his empire. Arkansas "weaves together three decades of Deep South drug trafficking to explore the cycle of violence that turns young men into criminals, and old men into legends." Starring an ensemble cast including Vince Vaughn as Frog, Liam Hemsworth & Clark Duke as Kyle & Swin, John Malkovich, Vivica A. Fox, Eden Brolin, Michael Kenneth Williams, Brad William Henke, Patrick Muldoon, Jeff Chase, and Barry Primus. This looks mildly entertaining, Malkovich is the best part of the footage.

Freshly divorced from American-International Pictures, Roger Corman leaps into the filmic mainstream with a fairly large-scale World War One aviation picture. He competes with the big studios but retains his nonconformist attitude: his retelling of the story of the Red Baron fixates on the theme of the death of chivalry in combat. For his star player Corman picks John Phillip Law, whose on-screen persona is a good fit for one of the first warrior aces of the sky.

Movies about the blacklist aren’t common, probably because as Robert Vaughn wrote, the period produced no happy stories, ‘Only Victims.’ Robert de Niro, Annette Bening and George Wendt give a bite of immediacy to the way the blacklist upset careers and blighted lives. Los Angeles’ American Cinematheque has announced it will host “A Tribute to Irwin Winkler,” celebrating the legendary filmmaker whose frequent collaborations with Martin Scorsese have led to several critically acclaimed and iconic films over nearly four decades spent together. The pair have worked together frequently — and quite successfully — over the years, and their shared credits include “New York, New York,” “Raging Bull,” “Goodfellas” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

The three-day event will feature showings of their past films, capped off by a rare, in-person conversation between the two Oscar winners. On Saturday, December 3, Winkler and Scorsese will be on hand at the Egyptian for an 80-minute conversation about their past work together, along with discussion about their latest project, “Silence,” which arrives on December 23 after a twenty-eight-year development period.

Actors Barry Primus and Doris Roberts and Oscar®-nominated sound mixers Jim Webb and Theodore Soderberg will join director Mark Rydell in the onstage discussion following the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 30th anniversary screening of "The Rose" on Friday, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Los Angeles Times film critic Betsy Sharkey will host the evening. Oscar-nominated actress Bette Midler was originally scheduled to participate in the event, but has had to cancel for personal reasons. J. F. Lawton's "Jackson" will serve as opening-night film of the 10th annual Lake Arrowhead Film Festival, to be held at the Lake Arrowhead Resort & Spa from April 2-5. Barry Primus and Charlie Robinson, who star in the film as two bums whose lives are affected by a $20 bill, will attend the opening.

NEW YORK -- Robert De Niro is executive producing writer-director Barry Primus' upcoming dramatic comedy "20% Fiction."

The film centers on a respected acting coach dissatisfied with his superficial life in Los Angeles. He finds love and self-fulfillment after moving to a small town and working with its quirky residents.

De Niro produced and co-starred in Primus' 1992 sophomore directorial effort, Mistress. Primus has served as De Niro's acting coach, and the two longtime friends have acted together in such films as New York, New York, Night and the City and Guilty by Suspicion.

Bret Saxon, Jeff Bowler and Ari Palitz of Insomnia Media Group are financing the film and producing with Deco Entertainment's Nicholas Celozzi and Freddy Braidy. Principal photography is slated to begin in late September in Los Angeles.

Insomnia's recent projects include Zak Penn's The Grand. Braidy produced the Paris Hilton starrer Bottoms Up.
