The releases include: Fright Night Part II, Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II, Prom Night III: The Last Kiss, Prom Night IV: Deliver Us from Evil, 976-Evil II, and Angel of H.E.A.T.

“There are no release dates for any of these titles at this time,” Synapse writes, noting that Fright Night Part II will not be out in 2025.

“We can’t even say ‘Still in production. No release date.’ because several of them have not started production yet! A little over a year ago, we learned that Alexander Skarsgard of Succession, The Legend of Tarzan, and The Northman had signed on to star in the ten-episode sci-fi series Murderbot, which is set up at Apple TV+. Now, it has been announced that the show is going to make its global premiere on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes on Friday, May 16, followed by new episodes every Friday through July 11. This medieval-mystical fantasy story didn't do big numbers at the box office, nor did it win over critics. But as the decades passed, the franchise developed a cult following. Coincidentally, Aaron Johnson-Taylor's Kraven has abilities very similar to the protagonist from that property. Not to mention, his mission and overall ethos have parallels to what The Beastmaster presented.

The "Velociraptor Horror" bar is pretty low outside Universal’s Jurassic franchise. All Mike Hermosa's The Invisible Raptor had to outperform are titles like Area 407, Jim Wynorski's Raptor, or The VelociPastor. On that scale, The Invisible Raptor proves more competent than other prehysterical B-movies that you might find on the Syfy channel after midnight. When it comes to cheesy horror movies, there was no decade better than the 1980s. The best films from this era kicked things into absolute hyperdrive as excessive gore, outrageous special effects, and campy, over-the-top performances became the norm. This was a period when filmmakers were experimenting with new types of horror movies as directors paid tribute to classics of the past with incredible homages, carved out new styles that better represented the social and political anxieties of that time, and pushed audiences out of their comfort zone with some truly terrifying films.

The cheesiest horrors of the 1980s included scary slashers that saw serial killers relentlessly pursue their victims, hilarious comedy horrors that featured punk rock brain-eating zombies, or even alien clowns invading Earth. While more serious horrors can make for a terrifying film-viewing experience, when gathered together with a group of friends, a cheesy 1980s horror will usually be the best pick.

Jim Wynorski is a legend in the B-movie world, having racked up over 100 directing credits over the course of his 40+ years of working in the entertainment industry. Among those credits are Chopping Mall, Deathstalker II, The Return of Swamp Thing, Sorority House Massacre II, Hard to Die, Ghoulies IV, Demolition High, Piranhaconda, Sharkansas Women’s Prison Massacre, Attack of the 50 Foot CamGirl, and Murderbot – so it’s clear to see why Wynorski was the subject of a documentary back in 2009. As far as I’m concerned, director Jim Wynorski’s 1986 film Chopping Mall (watch it Here) ranks up there as one of the most entertaining horror movies of the ’80s, which is the decade that brought a lot of my favorite horror movies into the world. It’s also a movie that doesn’t seem to get referenced often enough, and doesn’t get as much respect as it deserves – even if James Wan wants to remake it and Shout Factory TV aired it for 24 hours straight on Black Friday. So I’m glad to see that Chopping Mall is getting some love from the folks at Encyclopocalypse Publications, who have announced that they’re teaming up with Shout Factory and author Brian G. Berry for a Chopping Mall novelization!

The Dcu's release slate features an upcoming movie that is poised to break a 35-year DC movie trend in Swamp Thing. With filming for the Dcu's first release, Superman, underway, the franchise reboot is poised to reignite enthusiasm for DC's cinematic offerings. James Gunn being at the helm is a positive sign for the franchise, as the comic-loving filmmaker has a proven track record of delivering some of the highest-quality superhero movies in recent memory, including the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and one of the Dceu's most critically acclaimed movies, The Suicide Squad.

Black Friday is over and Cyber Monday is in full gear, and Screambox is celebrating with Jim Wynorski‘s 1986 horror classic Chopping Mall, currently streaming on the Bloody Disgusting-powered service.

Chopping Mall is a cult slasher featuring Barbara Crampton that kicks off when a bad thunderstorm causes a direct lightning strike, putting security robots on the fritz and making them a deadly problem for the group of eight mall employees who have decided to stay after hours to party and have sex.

The film is currently celebrating 37 years of staying power. Zachary Paul wrote about its anniversary five years ago.

Jeff Burr, director of “Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III,” “From a Whisper to a Scream” and “Straight Into Darkness,” has died. He was 60.

Director-writer Jim Wynorski shared the news of Burr’s death on Facebook, writing that he “passed away last night [Oct. 10] in his sleep.”

Burr helmed New Line’s “Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III,” starring former pro wrestler R.A. Mihailoff as the villain in the 1990 installment. He later directed several entries in the “Pumpkinhead” and “Puppet Master” franchises, including “Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings” (1993), “Puppet Master 4” (1993), “Puppet Master 5” (1995) and “Puppet Master: Blitzkrief Massacre” (2018).

Burr was born in Aurora, Ohio, on July 18, 1963, and grew up in Dalton, Ga. He attended USC, but dropped out after his third year alongside fellow director Kevin Meyer to finish their American civil war short “Divided We Fall.” His feature-length directorial debut was 1987’s “From a Whisper to a Scream,” starring Vincent Price, Clu Gulager and Terry Kiser.

From Uncork'd Entertainment, The Loch Ness Horror, which is coming to VOD and DVD on Nov. 7, tells the story of the Loch Ness Monster encountering the terrified occupants of a submarine. David McCallum, the man who brought the sexy to NBC's swinging 1960s superspy series "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and enjoyed an unexpected career resurgence via CBS' long-running procedural "NCIS," has, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, passed away of natural causes at the age of 90.

Although his character Illya Kuryakin was a Russian agent in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," the Scottish McCallum imbued the show with a British Mod-era cool that mashed up Sean Connery's finely tailored James Bond with the youthful insouciance of The Beatles. This wasn't by design. "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." was conceived as a vehicle for Robert Vaughn, but it's impossible to imagine the show gaining global traction with his cucumber-cool (occasionally frigid) American agent Napoleon Solo. To be sure, Vaughn had "it." He got the best character arc in John Sturges' "The Magnificent Seven," and died a hero's death.

Three horror classics have just landed on the Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox streaming service, which already is celebrating a massive August that kicked off with the Ghostbusters-inspired Ghastly Brothers.

Richard Attenborough’s Magic (1978) starring Anthony Hopkins and a psychotic ventriloquist dummy is the first of three movies added to Screambox, courtesy of Shout! Factory.

“Written by William Goldman, adapted from the novel he also wrote, Magic revolves around a ventriloquist seeking to renew a relationship with his former high school sweetheart,” Meagan Navarro previously wrote about the classic. “The only problem is that his dummy is the jealous type. That ventriloquist, Corky, is played by Anthony Hopkins. Unlike most killer doll horror movies, Magic favors the psychological, and Hopkins brings intensity to this twisted love story.”

She notes that this movie served as an inspiration for Don Mancini’s original Child’s Play screenplay and is currently celebrating its 45th anniversary!

Back in 1986, director Jim Wynorski brought us the cult classic Chopping Mall (watch it Here, check out our Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? episode on the film Here), which was about the robots that have been tasked with serving as the security guards in a shopping mall going on a killing spree. The original title for that movie was Killbots, and a while back it was announced that Wynorski was going to be directing a new movie called Killbots for Full Moon. It would have nothing to do with Chopping Mall, it was just going to be using that discarded original title. Well, the title plans changed along the way. The Wynorski / Full Moon project is now called Murderbot – and you can watch the trailer in the embed above!

The 1980s were full of robots, lasers, odd fashion choices, and teen films, including the now cult film Chopping Mall (watch it Here). In this 1986 sci-fi film, a group of teenage friends and mall workers end up stuck in the Mall after closing hours when a trio of security robots are deployed for the first time.

In the 80s, anything futuristic or with robots seemed to get greenlit with budgets of varying levels and quality of varying degrees. Some of these films took themselves very seriously, too seriously even. However, Chopping Mall was one of those films with the perfect mixture of low budget, the right talent in front of and behind the cameras, and the right level of seriousness to its content and how it was approached. Rlje Films Nabs The Psychological Thriller “Sympathy For The Devil”: "Rlje Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, has acquired the North America, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand rights to the psychological thriller, Sympathy For The Devil from Christian Mercuri’s Capstone Global, which is handling worldwide sales for the film.

Directed by Yuval Adler, Sympathy For The Devil is the feature screenwriting debut of Luke Paradise. It stars Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman. The film will be released on July 28, 2023.

“This is our eighth collaboration with Nicolas Cage, which includes Mandy - a critically-acclaimed film that has a huge cult following,” said Rlje Film Chief Acquisitions Officer Mark Ward. “Once again, he doesn’t disappoint. Yellow Veil Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to the erotic thriller documentary “We Kill For Love” ahead of its world premiere at the Overlook Film Festival.

The company is planning a domestic release later this year and will represent the film for international sales with a launch at the upcoming Marche Du Film in Cannes.

Written, produced, and directed by Anthony Penta, “We Kill for Love” depicts the long-gone world of direct-to-video erotic thriller, an American film genre that once dominated late night cable television and the shelves of neighborhood video stores.

DC Studios head James Gunn announced that a Swamp Thing movie will be part of the first slate of DC films he will be producing as he reboots the DC Universe. It turns out that a cryptic Twitter post can mean a lot more than just reminiscing about your favorite superhero. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that James Mangold is in negotiations to direct the recently-announced "Swamp Thing" film for DC Studios. While Mangold was not mentioned during the private press event revealing the new DC Universe movie and TV show slate, it appears he will be among the first of many directors to bring these projects to the screen.

Shopping costs an arm and a leg – literally – in Jim Wynorski‘s Chopping Mall, a cult classic horror movie from 1986 that horror master James Wan happens to be a big fan of.

Speaking with Slash Film this week, Wan expressed interest in someday putting his own stamp on Chopping Mall, set in a shopping mall (naturally) and centered on killer robots.

Wan tells the outlet, “I have many horror films that I think are just fun that I love, and I’m pretty sure the horror community shares them with me. I love movies like ‘Chopping Mall.’ I love ‘Night of the Creeps.’ These, to me, are just sort of fun horror films that I would love to be able to dive into one day, or do them but with the way that I make my films.”

M3GAN producer James Wan says he wants to remake Chopping Mall and Night of the Creeps. Horror fans are currently getting ready for some new killer doll action, as the highly-touted M3GAN gets ready to creep out movie theaters. Penned by Malignant co-writer Akela Cooper, the movie stars Alison Williams as a roboticist who crafts an AI-powered doll to act as a companion for her orphaned niece. Given that M3GAN is a Blumhouse film co-produced by Wan, it’s no surprise that the movie’s titular robot doll quickly demonstrates a capacity for murder.

Jim Wynorski's 1986 horror cheapie "Chopping Mall" is a supremely silly film, better for snickers and guffaws than for scares or ideas. The premise is novel enough: a shopping mall has just installed a new line of ultra-advanced security robots that will patrol the mall at night looking for ruffians or thieves. Predictably, the robots go haywire and respond to any and all human beings with lethal force. They electrocute the janitor and begin chasing a group of mall employees who were having a sex party inside the furniture store. The film features such glorious cult luminaries as Barbara Crampton, Dick Miller, and Gerrit Graham. One can also take the supreme delight provided by legitimate icons Paul Bartel and Mary Woronov; when they appear on screen in any film, you know you're in for a treat.

I don’t think anyone was expecting to see The Return of Swamp Thing on 4K Ultra HD, especially before Wes Craven’s 1982 original, but it’s coming February 7 from Lightyear Entertainment.

Based on the DC Comics character, the 1989 sequel is directed by Jim Wynorski and written by Neil Cuthbert and Grant Morris. Louis Jourdan, Heather Locklear, Sarah Douglas, and Dick Durock star.

The film been newly restored in 4K from the original interpositive with Dolby Vision Hdr and original 2.0 and 5.1 stereo audio. Special features include two audio commentaries, interviews with Wynorski, Cirino, Rosenthal, and producer Michael Uslan, promotional videos, and more.

Don’t get me wrong, streaming is great. You can’t complain about the convenience of pulling up a movie without having to leave your bed. But there’s one thing that we’ve lost in our post-rental store age: cool movie covers. Sure, Netflix will display algorithmically designed thumbnails, and trailers for movies play above Redbox kiosks.
