After Batman & Robin crashed and burned in 1997, it was clear a new direction was needed for the Caped Crusader's franchise. Warner Bros. went through quite a few iterations, with one of the most noteworthy being Batman: Year One from director Darren Aronofsky and comic book writer Frank Miller.
The duo took some major liberties with the source material, including a homeless Bruce Wayne, a suicidal Jim Gordon, a non-costumed villain, and violence that will make you wince.
Recently, Aronofsky broke his silence on why the movie didn't happen when he said, "I was really focused on The Fountain, I never really took that seriously. I wanted to make Fountain,...

Anonymous Content, the award-winning production and management company behind “Spotlight” and “Disclaimer,” has been hit with a round of layoffs. The company is pink-slipping 15% of its staff, according to a source with knowledge of the cuts. Anonymous Content has about 150 employees.
The layoffs will hit all divisions and all levels of Anonymous Content and will commence Wednesday. The reductions come as the media business is struggling with an advertising downturn, a sluggish box office and belt-tightening at the major studios and streamers. Anonymous Content previously underwent a round of cuts in 2023.
A spokesperson for Anonymous Content declined to comment.
Anonymous Content was founded in 1999. Its list of film credits includes “Babel,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Nickel Boys,” “Winter’s Bone,” “Stillwater,” “Being John Malkovich,” and “Swan Song.” “Spotlight” won the best picture statue at the 2015 Academy Awards.

After Weapons, Zach Cregger has set up an array of ambitious films, including a Resident Evil adaptation and an original thriller made in the same tone and style as Nightcrawler [Culture Crave]. While the movie is not designed as a direct successor to Jake Gyllenhaal’s 2014 film, it will surely be a spiritual sequel to the cult hit.
The director hasn’t revealed exclusive details about these projects yet, though the fans are invested in seeing what he brings to the table next. Given the success of Weapons at the box office, there is no doubt as to Zach Cregger’s authority over the horror genre. Even so, his Nightcrawler-inspired movie remains the most anticipated of all the projects currently in the pipeline.

Jim Parsons has become synonymous with the role of Sheldon Cooper, his quirky, "bazinga"-spewing, super nerd from the long-running sitcom "The Big Bang Theory." Parsons made such an impact as Sheldon that the character received his own spinoff series, "Young Sheldon," after "The Big Bang Theory" ended. Though the series portrayed Sheldon as a child, now played by Iain Armitage, Parsons returned to deliver voiceover throughout the series. He also made a cameo appearance as the older Sheldon in the series finale. Throughout all 12 seasons of "The Big Bang Theory" and his subsequent role in "Young Sheldon," Parsons had found the character who will now define the rest of his career.
Before Parsons was cast as Sheldon Cooper, though, he had not found quite so much success in some of his early comedy appearances. In 2006, he had a background role in "School for Scoundrels," a remake of the 1960 British...

It has become a classic trope where the main character gets to play the hero and steal the spotlight in the show or movie they are in. But that is not always the case. Sometimes, those scene-stealing sidekicks, chaotic best friends, mysterious mentors, or one morally grey wildcard can bring more spice than the leads. Honestly, they make us laugh harder, cry unexpectedly, and, in a way, leave us wanting more of their character arc.
We hope you understand the type we’re talking about here—the fan-favorite side characters who didn’t just support the story, but rather elevated it to the next level. Yep, the ones whose screen time was too short, whose backstories were definitely worthy of dying to explore, and whose solo series could actually outshine the originals. Honestly? Sometimes, some of these side characters felt like they were auditioning for their own show all along,...

The Hangoverstar Ed Helms has recently spoken about how his mother cried watching the film for the first time. Along with Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis, Helms helped make this Todd Phillips classic one of the most popular comedies of the 2000s, as his characterization of the dentist Stu was an essential part of the movie’s wild dynamic.
Telling the story of a bachelor party gone wrong, The Hangover was a raunchy glimpse into the most outrageous side of human debauchery as a group of friends wake up to a missing groom with no memory of the night before. Given Helms’ conservative upbringing, he was understandably nervous about how his family would react. See Helms' full comments below.
“I grew up in a kind of a repressed Southern home. Politically, very progressive, but still a very socially conservative kind of environment.

Having debuted midweek in several international territories, director James Gunn’s Supermantook flight in domestic theaters on Friday. The movie made $56 million on opening day, which includes the $21 million that it grossed in Thursday previews. Superman had already made over $40 million from overseas markets on Wednesday and Thursday, meaning it has soared past the coveted $100 million mark globally before its first weekend. It’s a repeat of what we saw with Jurassic World Rebirth just last week; that movie has grossed over $400 million already, and will pose a stiff challenge to Superman over the summer.
Produced on a reported budget of $225 million, Superman has a high bar for success. The movie also carries the burden of launching a new franchise for Warner Bros. The hotly anticipated DC Universe has been billed as tonally different to the DC Extended Universe that director Zack Snyderspearheaded for a few years, before it took different shapes and forms,...

Ed Helms is recalling how nervous he was for his “very socially conservative” parents to see 2009’s The Hangover.
The actor recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, where he looked back at the R-rated comedy that also starred Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis.
“I grew up in kind of a repressed Southern home. Politically, very progressive, but still a very socially conservative kind of environment,” Helms explained to host Ted Danson. “And so The Hangover is nuts. That’s not what they [his parents] raised me to do, to be in a movie like The Hangover.“

The California production community will be keeping a close eye on the state Capitol on Friday as lawmakers are set to seal the deal on the expansion to the Film & TV Tax Credit Program, offering some crucial amendments to the current initiative and boosting its funding to $750 million annually.
The Legislature is expected to vote ahead of the weekend on a trailer bill to make the legal changes needed to implement the budget they agreed upon earlier this week.
This is a win for both Gov. Gavin Newsom, who made the ambitious proposal in October, and the state’s struggling film and television industry — but it took quite a lot of people to make it happen. The industry has coalesced in recent months around this issue, bringing together production workers, union leaders and prominent filmmakers to plead their case to the decision makers in Sacramento.

Despite all the comments and fan art of Robert Pattinson's Batman standing side-by-side with David Corenswet's Superman, DC Studios is standing firm in its decision to keep the world that Matt Reeves is building separate from the Dcu.
In a new interview with Omelete, DC Studios co-chair Peter Safran explained that Matt Reeves' Batman falls under the studios' purview as an Elseworlds tale, however they'll be a different actor under the Dark Knight's cowl in The Brave and The Bold.
“I think we've been very clear about Batman. We love Matt Reeves, and we're dying to do Batman: Part II. Like I said, we're always going to do some projects that are primarily auteur-driven. Those are projects that we call Elseworlds,” he explained to the Brazilian entertainment site, as he also referenced the Joker films directed by Todd Phillips, which are not part of the new Superman universe.

If there is one thing that The Boys knows how to get right, it is iconic characters. Across its four seasons, the show has created some of the most memorable moments in the superhero genre. While most of these situations consist of characters that have superpowers, the majority of the fight sequences gain weight because the titular team does not have superpowers.
While the lack of powers is what made the series appealing during its initial seasons, both Hughie and Butcher eventually also get powers, even if it was for a brief amount of time. Even Frenchie has his substance abuse, and Kimiko’s powers as a leg up in fights. With this, there is no denying that Mother’s Milk is the only character who knows how to beat Supes without powers.

On June 11, as protests raged in Los Angeles over the escalating immigration crackdown and California legislators furiously attempted to address a $12 billion budget shortfall, state Sen. Ben Allen issued a gentle reminder to top Hollywood creatives that politicos had a lot more on their minds than movies and TV shows.
“Keep in mind the pressures that everyone is under right now,” the legislator told a group of industry players in the Capitol’s swing-space office building. Substantive cuts to healthcare, social and public services were on the table — in fact, the chants of protestors outside the building were echoing as he was speaking. “You’re under a lot of pressures; we’re under a lot of pressures.”
His rapt listeners wouldn’t have looked out of place at a glamorous Oscars after-party, and they had been tasked with doing the kind of delicate politicking and advocacy that on the West Side of L.

The Boys have always thrived in chaos, the kind that is bloody and absurd enough to keep you hooked. And, if Todd Phillips, master of chaotic brilliance, ever decided to create his version of “Star Wars,” there would be no better crew for the job than The Boys. And there’s a reason why.
Imagine waking up in a trashed star cruiser with scorch marks on the wall, and no memory of how you ended up lightyears from the last plot point. Sounds more like The Hangover, right? And if there’s anyone who could pull off that kind of chaos, it’s Todd Phillips. There’s one crew that fits the mission: the four heroes from The Boys.

Before Ana de Armas became a Hollywood staple, she starred in War Dogs, a wild, gun-running rollercoaster based on a true story except, not really. Released nine years ago, the film marketed itself as a high-octane retelling of two 20-something hustlers landing a $300 million Pentagon arms deal.
Characters were fictionalized, timelines tweaked, and dramatic liberties taken like they were on sale. Ana de Armas played the worried girlfriend role, but even her part was a narrative invention. Turns out, the truth was messier, darker, and way less glam than Hollywood made it look.

What Is The Real Reason Behind Joker 2, Tlou 2 & Hotd 2 Backlash? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Hollywood is experiencing a slump, from audience approval to box office performance, yielding polarizing outcomes. Contemporaneous failures of established properties like Joker, House of the Dragon, and The Last of Us are being attributed by creators to so-called ‘toxic fandoms,’ right-wing extremism, or broader cultural wars to save face.
This deflection crystallized when The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann recently made admissions insinuating his disdain for a fan-favorite character during a interview on Last Stand Media. Such convictions reinforce the impression that studios and showrunners are increasingly willing to scapegoat their long-standing fandoms through this lens. But how much of that is sincere, and how much of it is a strategic blame game?
Why Is The Last of Us So Adamant About Making Joel The Villain?
Tlou gave Neil Druckmann another chance to honor his game’s legacy.

James Spader once called his iconic role “appalling,” and frankly speaking, I do get it. But that very role is how I fell headfirst into legal dramas. There’s something magnetic about characters who’re complicated, flawed, and unapologetically intense.
Spader’s portrayal was a solid ride through sharp wit, moral gray zones, and courtroom drama. Sure, it wasn’t your typical hero story, but that’s what hooked me. Legal dramas don’t just show law; they expose the messy, chaotic humanity behind it. And that’s why I’m obsessed.

Blow Up The Chat, a new comedy movie inspired by The Hangover, is in the works and has its eyes on a major lead star. All three movies were released from 2009 to 2013 from director Todd Phillips, who went on to helm Joker.

A filmmaker would be lucky to make a movie that transcends boundaries and becomes a cultural touchstone. Ryan Coogler has made at least two. Seven years after his blockbuster Marvel superhero movie Black Panther shattered expectations and set new benchmarks for the genre — it became the first superhero film ever to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar — Coogler's latest film, Sinners, has established itself among the highest-regarded horror movies ever made. Starring his longtime collaborator Michael B. Jordan, Sinnersopened to near-unanimous praise some weeks ago, and has been delivering exceptional results at the box office. The movie's success has pushed Coogler up the list of the highest-grossing directors of all times.
Coogler's five movies have generated nearly $1.5 billion at the domestic box office, for a per-movie average of around $300 million. His highest-grossing film remains the first Black Panther, which grossed $700 million domestically in 2018 — interestingly, this is a higher lifetime...

Francis Ford Coppola is a brand name when it comes to Hollywood and the film industry in general. Despite some recent flops, he is a giant who has brought us timeless classics such as The Godfather trilogy, The Conversation, and Apocalypse Now.
In recent years, though, he has been struggling, and his most recent outing, the political satire Megalopolis, flopped in a major way. And while Coppola is adamant about defending his movie, Megalopolis is really below the great director’s capabilities.
But, as you know, Coppola is not giving up and is planning to make two more movies. At the same time, he is giving interviews, and in a recent one, he criticized Trump’s planned movie tariffs.

What’s the cheapest movie that slayed at the box office? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
There’s something inherently fascinating about a film that defies financial odds. Hollywood blockbusters usually never shy away from ballooning budgets, multi-million dollar CGI, and A-list paychecks. So when a movie crosses the coveted billion-dollar mark at the global box office, the assumption is almost always the same: they must have spent a fortune to make it. But not every record-breaking success was built on excess. Some relied more on clever storytelling, genre innovation, and pure fan power.
Among the many films that have made it into the elite billion-dollar club, a few stand out not for what they spent, but for what they didn’t. While modern franchises like Avengers or Fast & Furious are known for their towering costs, there’s one surprise entry that quietly made cinematic history by grossing ten figures on a comparatively modest investment.

Superhero films are usually not expected to tackle real-world issues. It’s a fictional world where adrenaline-fueled sequences are shown one after the other, and in the end, the superhero saves the day. However, when a superhero movie takes a moment to pause, breathe, and tackle real-world issues with sincerity, it creates a league of its own. That’s exactly what Marvel Studios is doing with Thunderbolts*.
A raw and nuanced look at mental health has now got the internet reevaluating the entire genre. While Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker films didn’t follow the traditional superhero blueprint, their ties to DC Comics and a reimagined origin story placed them in the same broader conversation.

While 2024 delivered its share of blockbuster triumphs, a look at Deadline Hollywood's fiscal year-end analysis reveals the less glamorous side of the industry: the films that likely left studio executives reaching for antacids and pink slips.
Following our previous report on the year's biggest earners, we now delve into the cinematic misfires that failed to recoup their hefty investments.
Topping the list of potential job-security destroyers is none other than Joker: Folie à Deux.
The sequel to the 2019 phenomenon, which famously transformed a modest $55 million production into a staggering $1.079 billion global box office haul, took a decidedly different creative path. For some reason, WB execs greenlit a $200 million budget for director Todd Phillips to helm a musical follow-up. From a financial standpoint, it appears the gamble to drastically alter a successful blueprint "shockingly" didn't resonate with audiences in the same way.

Movie and entertainment websites are finding themselves squeezed – and also facing decisions as to whose side they’re on. A few thoughts.
There’s an old chum of mine who always had a question when he was in a promotional junket for a film, and got a bit stumped. He’d turned to the filmmaker he was questioning and ask ‘how do you decide where to put the camera.’
Thing is, it worked, and he’ll be out there smugly reading this somewhere. And also, it’s an important question.
As a boring old fossil in the world of writing about film online, it also feels about the most pertinent question to ask those of us on our side of the fence at the moment. It’s worth noting up front that there’s nothing I’m going to talk about that I’ve not been guilty of at some stage,...

Francis Ford Coppola’s 2024 film Megalopolismay have failed to become a box office success, but one of the movie’s actors says that while making the sci-fi epic, he received the best direction he’s ever heard on set. Adam Driver(Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens) paid tribute to Coppola at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on April 26 as the Oscar-winning director received AFI’s 50th Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute.
Per Deadline, Driver called Coppola one of his “cinematic heroes” and talked about working with The Godfather director on Megalopolis. Driver starred in the film, which Coppola self-funded after first coming up with the idea back in 1983, as Cesar Catilina.
Driver called Coppola “A theater director who brought his process to film and revolutionized how we think about cinema, and certainly how we make it.” He continued, “His movies, for some, are...

When done correctly, musical films can transcend genres.
In 2022, director Todd Phillips announced a sequel to Joker (2019) was being made and was titled Joker: Folie á Deux. This announcement was shortly followed by the reveal that Folie á Deux would in fact be a musical, with Lady Gaga set to portray Harley Quinn. While fans went gaga over the casting, the musical aspect was baffling to many. After all, why would the sequel to a non-musical comic book film, all of a sudden become a musical?
In 2024, that question was answered with an extremely polarizing because Joker: Folie á Deux was an incredibly lackluster follow up to the 2019 film, but was this due to the musical element? In the same year, Marvel Studios and Disney+ released Agatha All Along, only to find praise for the spellbinding story and magical music. Both of these comic book projects featured musical elements, but...

War is no laughing matter, just in case anybody needs reminding. But there has always been a strain of comedy war films, from "Operation Petticoat" and "Operation Dumbo Drop" via the Mutual Assured Destruction laffs of "Dr. Strangelove" to war-adjacent capers like "The Greatest Beer Run Ever." In 2016, Todd Phillips gave us "War Dogs," a movie that plays somewhat like a stoner version of the latter with illegal firearms instead of cans of warm Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Inspired by a "Rolling Stone" article about two young Miami dudes who became unlikely gun runners for the U.S. Government, a black comedy about the murky world of international arms dealers will always be relevant in our era of perpetual war. Following movies like "Old School" and "The Hangover," Phillips might not have seemed like the obvious choice to direct a greed-is-bad black comedy about such a serious subject. As he proved in his later "Joker" movies,...

Movies have done a great job of telling stories, whether they are fictional or real-life incidents. Films are a great way to reach a wider audience. Over the years, there have been plenty of films that are adaptations of books or stories from other sources that have resonated with audiences on a deeper level, showcasing the success of films to reach and connect with audiences in ways that are otherwise not possible.
Movies excel at conveying stories, whether by capturing significant moments in history, bringing biographies to life, or immersing viewers in life-changing events. They might not always be recreated with pinpoint accuracy; often, the movie is fictionalized or exaggerated to keep the audience hooked. And yet, they can be educational and fun watches at times.

A recent rumor that David Zaslav might be thinking about making a major change at Warner Bros. following a number of box office disappointments appears to have been confirmed.
According to Bloomberg, the Warner Bros. Discovery CEO is currently engaged in "early and informal" talks with potential successors to studio heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy. Joker: Folie à Deux's abysmal box office performance is believed to be a major reason for the change, but Todd Phillips' critically-panned sequel is not the only recent WB movie to underperform at the box office.
Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17 will reportedly end up costing the studio between $75 million to $80 million over the course of its theatrical run, and the studio is also coming off another bomb in Alto Knights - although Zaslav is believed to have greenlit the movie himself despite others voicing concerns about it having limited prospects.

Every once in a while, a movie makes so much money that it totally shakes up the film industry. This instance is especially true when a genre many considered dead and buried comes along and makes some serious cash. This rarity happened in a big way back in 1999 when American Pie, a movie that cost $11 million, made $235 million worldwide. Think about it – the biggest star in the film was Eugene Levy. More than that – it was a teen sex comedy. That genre played out in the early eighties when Porky’s was such a big hit that every studio decided to make a sex comedy, and pretty much all of them tanked – especially the multiple Porky‘s sequels. Teen sex comedies were replaced by John Hughes’s brand of more thoughtful teen comedies, only for that genre to fall off as well. A year before, Sony made a John Hughes-style teen comedy,...

Last year, I had the good fortune of visiting the set of Blumhouse's upcoming horror movie "The Woman in the Yard." It took place in a college town called Athens, Georgia, about an hour away from Atlanta, give or take. What I expected to encounter during that visit was some behind-the-scenes knowledge of Jaume Collet-Serra's return to the horror genre. What I didn't expect to discover was how Todd Phillips was responsible for a near-total ban on filming at the University of Georgia that lasted more than 20 years.
Phillips is best known as the director of DC's $1 billion smash hit "Joker" from 2019. Before that, he was known best for his work in R-rated comedies like "The Hangover." His first foray into the genre was 2000's "Old School," which served as his feature directorial debut. He'd previously directed a documentary about Phish called "Bittersweet Motel" and an unaired HBO documentary called "Frat House,...

Apart from the big screen, Hollywood stars have several personal stories that are equally entertaining, if not more. In this, Seth Rogen’s funny international escapade would definitely be in the top three. The actor, known for his comedic roles, could have truly inspired the fourth installment of The Hangover. While in the movies the cast woke up to tigers and missing teeth, Rogen actually ended up in an entirely different country.

2024 had a lot of highs and lows for the superhero genre. For one, there weren't as many cinematic releases as usual, so that's already a low point, but between the disappointing end to the Venom movie series and Sony's other two misses in Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter, it wasn't the best year for the comic book movies.
There was a huge high to balance those lows out, with Deadpool and Wolverine bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe back to the top of the box office as it earned over $1.3 billion. But there was an equally high-profile low, with the intriguing, daring Joker: Folie à Deux flopping at the box office, earning just a small fraction of what its billion-dollar predecessor made in 2019.

Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy's stint as Warner Bros. Pictures co-chiefs has been a disaster. Outside of the odd hit like Barbie, the studio continues to release movies that regularly underperform, with Mickey 17 the latest example.
Joker: Folie à Deux was another colossal mistake. With Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav looking to cut costs and make movies on the cheap, Luca and Abdy allowed Todd Phillips to essentially rip them off for $200 million so he could shoot a lavish sequel meant to satisfy his and Joaquin Phoenix's desire for a musical.
According to a new report from Puck, Zaslav - an unpopular figure in Hollywood after he scrapped movies like Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme mid-production - is considering replacing Luca and Abdy.
One top contender is DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran, meaning James Gunn would be left as the sole head of that studio.

A new report gets into Joker: Folie à Deux's choice of not having a screen test. Joaquin Phoenix's first time as Batman's greatest villain was a major success, netting the actor a Best Actor Oscar and amassing over $1 billion worldwide. However, the sequel could not follow suit. Joker: Folie à Deux's overwhelmingly negative reviews spelled doom for the DC movie from the start, and by the end of its theatrical run, the film was left with $207.5 million on a $200 million budget, which means it lost the studio quite a lot of money.

Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie à Deux will likely go down as one of the most notorious flops in comic book movie history, as the sequel's box office underperformance and negative critical reception were made all the more surprising by the first film's huge level of success.
Though the downbeat musical does have its defenders, Phillips' creative choices just didn't click with the majority of cinema goers. The lead performances from Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga did come in for a lot of praise, but it didn't stop the pair from being nominated for - and winning - several Razzie awards.

Lady Gaga returned to "Saturday Night Live" on March 8, 2025, hosting the show for the first time since 2013. In the 12-year since her last hosting gig, a lot has happened in Gaga's life. She's not just one of the most talented musicians of her generation anymore, she's also a movie star.
In Gaga's opening monologue, she shouted out her most recent acting gig: the less-than-beloved "Joker: Folie à Deux." Gaga, of course, played Harley "Lee" Quinzel, a groupie for Arthur Fleck/The Joker (Joaquin Phoenix). "Folie à Deux" had some fans but by most metrics it was a failure. Most critics hated it and, despite a higher budget, it only made about a fifth of the original's $1 billion box office gross.
Fortunately Gaga has always had a sense of humor about herself. On "SNL," she poked fun at "Joker: Folie à Deux" and herself for starring in it, joking: "I've been...

Joker: Folie à Deuxis infamous for how much it underperformed upon release last year, bombing at the box office and garnering rather harsh reviews. It was even given several Golden Raspberry Award (Razzie), including Worst Sequel along with Worst Screen Combo for Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix.
On Saturday night's episode of Saturday Night Live, Gaga appeared to pull double duty as the show's host and musical guest. In her opening monologue, she took some time to address the Joker sequel coming up short. After sarcastically remarking that people thought the film was "awesome," she then suggested she was happy about her Razzie win, explaining that this will help make her an "Egort."
“I’ve been very diligent about selecting films that would showcase my craft as a serious actor. Films such as Joker 2. Apparently, people thought it was awesome," she said. "Joaquin and I even got nominated for a Razzie,...

Five years after making history with his Oscar triumph for “Parasite,” Bong Joon-ho has returned to Hollywood filmmaking with Warner Bros.’ “Mickey 17,” a star-studded sci-fi satire about how capitalism can create demagogues and cheapen human life.
But despite strong reviews, it faces an uphill battle to turn a profit against its reported $118 million budget. While not an original film — it is an adaptation of the 2022 Edward Ashton novel “Mickey 7” — it’s a film trying to win over adult audiences with a marketing campaign based around its darkly humorous concept and a go-for-broke lead performance by Robert Pattinson.
While not as acclaimed as “Parasite,” reviews for “Mickey 17” have been very positive, currently standing at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film has also earned a $9 million 4-day opening weekend in Bong’s home country of South Korea, the best for a Warner release in six years.
But projections for the film...

Joker: Folie à Deux continues to be the butt of jokes in the film industry following its much-publicized flop. Even the Academy Awards couldn't resist taking shots at the derided DC sequel as the event made one brutal joke at its expense, with the help of Los Angeles' finest.
Host Conan O'Brien led a segment during the 97th Academy Awards where he introduced members of the Los Angeles Fire Department and had them read some jokes off the teleprompter, saying “Now, I know you’re going to find this hard to believe, but there are some jokes even I’m not brave enough to tell,” before adding, “On behalf of myself, would you please read what’s in the prompter? Remember — everyone in this audience has to laugh; these are heroes!” LA Fire Department captain Erik Scott started the segment with a fiery joke about Folie à Deux, referencing the...

Conan O'Brien is taking full advantage of his hosting duties at the 97th Academy Awards, making all sorts of hilarious jokes and references to the phenomenal and also turbulent year that 2024 was for the film industry and the greater Los Angeles area. In one of the more unique segments of the Awards show, O'Brien brought out the Los Angeles Fire Department Captains to celebrate their heroic efforts to put out the LA Wildfires. Besides recognizing the brave first responders, O'Brien also took the opportunity to give them the spotlight in a fun way— by having them tell jokes he deemed too brutal for him to tell. One such joke targeted a controversial and poorly received movie released late last year, Joker: Folie à deux. When O'Brien let the first Firefighter Captain tell a joke, it was an unexpectedly ruthless, with the Captain saying:
