Zendaya Teaming Up With Barry Jenkins in New Ronnie Spector A24 Film
Image
This sounds like a match made in artistic heaven. In one corner, you have Zendaya, one of the best actresses of her generation working today, and on the other, you have director Barry Jenkins, fresh off of Mufasa: The Lion King and looking to make a film that gets him back to his creative roots. The pair is joining forces on a new project for A24 that is based on the life of a legendary singer that could end up being a career-defining role for the young star.

Per Deadline, Zendaya and Jenkins are teaming up on a film about legendary singer Ronnie Spector. The project will be scripted by Dave Kajganich, who has a working connection to director Luca Guadagnino on films such as his Suspiria remake and Bones and All. That connection is even more complete with Zendaya, who did superb work on last year's Guadagnino-directed Challengers. Jenkins...

A decade really zips by. Deadpool started filming 10 years ago. âš”ï¸ pic.twitter.com/dxJXRUURKL— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) March 20, 2025

The actor shared a 32-second black-and-white video that goes backward from 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine to 2016's Deadpool, from the end credits to the beginning, before moving to a different film. Whatever Happened to Eddie Money’s Five Children?
Eddie Money
Eddie Money, the multiplatinum singer-songwriter best known for his ’70s and ’80s Top 40 hits like “Take Me Home Tonight” and “Two Tickets to Paradise,” sadly died on Sept. 13, 2019, at age 70 from stage 4 esophageal cancer. While building his successful music career, Money found love and married Laurie Harris in 1989. They had five children during their long marriage, and even renewed their vows just three months before his death. Many of the Money children followed in their father’s footsteps and have sparked music careers of their own, touring with Eddie as his opening acts and playing in his band up until his death. You may also remember meeting Money’s family and their eight dogs on the reality show Real Money in 2018. Money said that he was a big fan of the reality show The Osbournes and hoped his family’s own reality show would help jumpstart his kids’ music careers.

The Iron Claw Soundtrack: Every Song In The Movie & When They Play
Image
The Iron Claw chronicles the rise to fame of the Von Erich brothers, a family of pro wrestlers from Texas whose lineage was riddled with tragedy. The Iron Claw soundtrack features a handful of '70s rock classics and a few country numbers. Arcade Fire's Richard Reed Parry, who composed the film's score, also wrote an original song for The Iron Claw with his wife called "Live That Way Forever," which is performed by one of the characters in the film.

Although the events of the film are devastating, The Iron Claw's soundtrack is full of upbeat era and setting-specific songs. Written and directed by Sean Durkin, The Iron Claw tells the true story of the Von Erich brothers from Texas, whose lineage was said to be "cursed" due to the many tragedies their family endured before, during, and after their rise to fame as pro wrestlers in the '80s.

Image
Dolly Parton isn’t done rocking yet. After sharing her new album Rockstar last week, our November cover star has returned with two new bonus tracks: Her rendition of the Eddie Money’s “Two Tickets to Paradise,” plus a new version of her classic “Jolene” featuring Måneskin.

The Måneskin-assisted version of “Jolene” is available exclusively with the digital download version of Rockstar on Parton’s website, though the country icon did share a preview of the duet on Instagram. It sounds like the new recording stays fairly faithful to the original, with Måneskin’s Damiano David taking on co-lead vocals with Parton.

“Jolene” appears on the deluxe edition of Rockstar, which also features guest features from Sting, Steve Perry, Joan Jett, Mick Fleetwood, Pat Benatar, Brandi Carlile, and many, many more. See a preview clip of Måneskin’s take on “Jolene” below.

‘Smile’ Giddy With 37M Global Bow, China Has 60M Local ‘Home Coming’, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ Excels; Keep A Bag Packed For ‘Ticket To Paradise’ – International Box Office
Image
Update, writethru: There was a varied offering at the international box office this weekend with newcomers from Hollywood and offshore markets, as well as notable holds, as we inch closer to full-on action later in October.

Big overseas entries included Mani Ratnam’s historical epic Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 in a strong debut in India and abroad. Also new was China’s Home Coming, which, although it did about 60M in the home market, wasn’t a patch on last year’s National Day blockbuster The Battle at Lake Changjin (more on those below).

Landing the top offshore debut for the studios was Paramount’s Smile with 14.5M from 58 markets, and 36.5M globally. The horror audience grinned in all areas with good word of mouth for the Parker Finn-directed movie that was also tops domestically.

Reinforcing that audiences want to go back to the cinema for something fresh, on a like-for-like basis,...

Corey Taylor Slips Some John Mellencamp and Neil Diamond Into His New Cover of ‘On the Dark Side’
Image
Slipknot’s Corey Taylor has released a rendition of John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band’s 1983 song, “On the Dark Side,” the lead single from his upcoming EP Cmfb… Sides, set to arrive Feb. 25 via Roadrunner Records.

For his cover of “On the Dark Side,” Taylor leans into a distinctly Eighties palette with shimmering guitars and big, gated snares, but there’s still plenty of hard rock power in his vocals and the fret-tapped guitar solos. But Taylor really makes the cover his own by turning the bridge into...

Zendaya In Talks to Play Ronnie Spector In Biopic
Zendaya in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Zendaya will play Ronnie Spector in A24’s upcoming adaptation of the iconic rock and roll singer’s 1990 biography Be My Baby: How I Survived Mascara, Miniskirts, And Madness, according to Variety. The 24-year-old Zendaya recently made history as the youngest actress to win an Emmy lead actress in a drama series. She is only the second Black woman to win the award, after Viola Davis for her role on How to Get Away with Murder in 2015. Spector personally chose Zendaya to portray her.

Former Disney Channel star Zendaya won the Emmy for her role as Rue in HBO’s Euphoria, which is produced by A24. The independent entertainment company is teaming with New Regency again. They are also working with them on the Malcolm & Marie film and previously worked together on The Lighthouse, which was directed by Robert Eggers. Zendaya is also one of producers, along with Marc Platt,...

Zendaya in Talks to Play Singer Ronnie Spector in Biopic From A24 and New Regency
Zendaya in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Zendaya is in talks to star in a biopic about the life and career of Ronnie Spector, The Ronettes singer known for songs like “Be My Baby” and “The Best Part of Breakin’ Up,” that A24 and New Regency are teaming up on.

Marc Platt would produce the film, and A24 has acquired the life rights for Spector and the rights to Spector’s autobiography “Be My Baby,” which she wrote with Vince Waldron. No director or writer is formally attached.

Zendaya would also produce the film if her deal closes, and Spector would also executive produce with Johnathan Greenfield.

Ronnie Spector was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Ronettes in 2007 as the original “bad girl of rock and roll,” and the trio produced two Top 100 hits in 1965 after being signed by Phil Spector, whom she married in 1968. After the group broke up, she launched...

Zendaya In Talks To Play Ronnie Spector In A24 Film About Iconic Singer; Label Acquires Life Rights & ‘Be My Baby’ Autobiography
Image
Updated: I’ve learned that A24 will team on the Ronnie Spector film with New Regency. The two partnered previously on the Robert Eggers-directed The Lighthouse, and they are part of the Malcolm & Marie film.

Exclusive: A24 is putting together a film package that will have Emmy-winning Euphoria star Zendaya attached to play singer Ronnie Spector in a film about her life. Deals have just closed for Spector’s life rights and for Be My Baby, the memoir she wrote with Vince Waldron. I’m hearing that early conversations are happening with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury to write the script.

The film will be produced by Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Mark Itkin, Tom Shelly and Zendaya. Jonathan Greenfield and Spector will be the exec producers.

Much the way that Aretha Franklin personally endorsed Jennifer Hudson to play her in the upcoming MGM biopic Respect, Spector chose...

Judge Tosses Age Discrimination Claim in ‘Simpsons’ Composer Alf Clausen’s Firing
Image
A judge has dismissed an age discrimination claim brought by former “Simpsons” composer Alf Clausen, who was fired from the show in 2017.

Judge Michael L. Stern granted a motion to strike the claim in a ruling on Friday, finding that Twentieth Century Fox had a free speech right to choose the composer for the show.

The producers have said in court filings that they decided to terminate Clausen after they became dissatisfied with his work on a hip-hop themed episode. The producers felt that Clausen, who was 75 at the time, was not comfortable with rap or hip-hop music, and they were worried about keeping the show relevant.

They also became concerned that Clausen was farming out much of the work to his son, according to court filings. The show ultimately hired Bleeding Fingers Music, a composer collective that made greater use of synth music, cutting the show’s music costs by 40%.

In his ruling,...

One Joke In The Office Cost NBC $60,000
Image
NBC has been home to quite a lot of successful comedy shows over the years, including such immensely popular series as Friends, Seinfeld, Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock. But as beloved as all of those shows have remained, one specific workplace series has become one of modern television’s most influential entries and is still one of Netflix’s most consistently viewed shows even over half a decade after its final episode aired.

The Office has captivated fans all over the world with its lovable and fallible characters, outrageously funny writing and cringe-inducing moments that can make even the most stoic person writhe in humorous discomfort. This is largely thanks to series creators Michael Schur and Greg Daniels, who took what worked about the British version of the show and Americanized it to make it appeal to a broader audience, basically handing NBC a huge hit on a platter...

‘American Idol’: Did Just Sam deserve to win season 18 over Arthur Gunn? [Poll]

American Idol hosted its first-ever virtual finale on Sunday, crowning the winner of Season 18 from a distance of six feet… and many miles.

The first order of business was trimming the remaining seven contestants down to five, which meant the elimination of two more fan favorites. This left the Top 5 — Dillon James, Jonny West, Arthur Gunn, Francisco Martin and Just Sam — to sing for America’s real-time votes.

Best Coast’s ‘Always Tomorrow’ Feels Stuck Too Much in Today
Bethany Cosentino
A decade after Best Coast released their indie-pop breakthrough “Sun Was High (and So Was I),” the band has cleaned up its act. Four years have passed since its last LP, California Nights, and frontwoman Bethany Cosentino has sobered up and turned her life around. It’s a commendable feat, but since she is the type of songwriter who sticks to what she knows, her struggles to maintain her new drug-and-alcohol-free mindset also preoccupy almost all of the songs on Always Tomorrow. It quickly becomes a same-y blur, especially when...

Loretta Lynn
By 1979, Loretta Lynn had been recording country music for almost 20 years, with some 50 albums to her credit. The first female artist to be nominated for — and to win — the Cma Entertainer of the Year award in 1972, Lynn’s string of major solo hits was accompanied by five Number Ones with duet partner Conway Twitty. The pair also logged four chart-topping LPs as a duo between 1973 and 1976.

This Week In Music: The White Room With Black Curtains Beckons For Rock’s Elders
Ginger Baker in Ginger Baker, batteur inconditionnel (2012)

The recent deaths of Ric Ocasek, Eddie Money and others hangs heavy over the genre’s fans, and serves notice that those who are still out there performing should be savored for their longevity and vitality.

This week in music:

Farewell To Ginger, Perhaps An Era: The death of Cream and Blind Faith drummer Ginger Baker at age 80 has rocked the Baby Boomer community that remembers his heyday. But even more saddening is the thought that those who dominated in his era are now in that magic 75-80 range. Here is a list of the still-living rock stars, some of them still performing.

Artificially Intelligent And Prolific: Truly busy musicians may release one or two albums and several tracks per year.

Rs Charts: Post Malone’s ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’ Easily Repeats at Number One
Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding enjoyed a second consecutive week atop the Rs 200. After clearing half a million album-equivalent units during its debut week, Hollywood’s Bleeding added 193,000 more in the latest tracking week. While Malone sold over 22,000 copies, his second-week total was primarily driven by more than 209 million streams.

That streaming count lifted Malone past The Lumineers, whose album III — their first full-length since 2016 — arrived at Number Two. Album sales accounted for a hefty chunk of the Lumineers’ 90,000 units. Taylor Swift’s Lover took third place on the Rs 200, earning 64,000 album-equivalent units.

Baby Hold On: Why Eddie Money Was the Patron Saint of Rock Uncool
Eddie Money
As he himself would have admitted, Eddie Money was no one’s idea of a conventional rock star. His stage moves were always a little gawky and spasmodic, his borderline hoarse voice in need of a lozenge or two. Emerging during the punk era though never part of it, he preferred the stadium-friendly shout-along choruses of mainstream rock and adopted the suit-and-tie New Wave look while keeping his hair unfashionably long. He was even an NYPD cop — a career move that, while utterly honorable, didn’t jibe with the traditional,...

For one thing, it’s the 17th song here, and none of her previous albums have run more than 16 tracks. (Lover actually contains 18.) More importantly, it’s not about being 16 or 22 or even her not-insignificant current age, 29.
