Glen Powell Is Teaming Up With Judd Apatow for New Music Comedy
Image
If there is such a thing as a movie star anymore, Glen Powellcertainly fits the bill, and now the A-lister has found his next project. Powell is set to star in an untitled comedy film from Universal Pictures, according to Deadline. The film will be directed by Judd Apatow, who has helmed some of the most well-known and recognizable comedies of the 21st century, so this clearly seems like a well-done match.

Details about the film remain slim. However, it was reported that the project will follow a country western music star whose life spirals out of control, with Powell likely set to play the musician. No other casting has been announced. A cowboy, western-type role wouldn't exactly be unusual for Powell; the Texas native made waves for his portrayal of a rough, adventurous storm chaser when he worked with Universal for Twistersin 2024.

Powell also has a major behind-the-camera role,...

The Ex NATO Chief Has a New Online Marketplace Meant to Cut Out the Film-Distribution Middleman
Image
The former leader of theater-owner’s group NATO has a new way to get your independent film into movie theaters — one intended to cut out the middleman.

John Fithian is launching an online marketplace to connect filmmakers directly with exhibitors. The platform is called “Attend,” and it puts the “intelligence” into its artificial intelligence. Attend’s tech, powered by the Vista Group, pairs filmmakers with the specific theaters best suited to their movie. For exhibitors, Attend is a portal to a broader range of content. This way, filmmakers retain the rights to their movie, and exhibitors keep control over their screens.

Sorry about all of that, distributors.

A filmmaker uploads details about (and assets from) their films directly into Attend, including metadata and other specifics. The platform’s AI will match the movie with theaters based on their customer data, local demographics, and affinity groups.

Attend will launch an alpha phase in the U.

Jonás Cuarón (“Desierto”) is on board to direct Sony Pictures’ “El Muerto” starring Grammy Award-winner and mega recording artist Bad Bunny, also known as Benito A Martínez Ocasio, TheWrap has exclusively learned. Additionally, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (“Blue Beetle”) is writing the script, which is in early development.

“El Muerto” is the first Latino character to lead a Marvel film, and the antihero character is also known as Juan Carlos Estrada Sanchez, the son of a luchador who finds himself next in line to inherit the ancestral power of “El Muerto,” which is the powers and a mask worn by a super-powered wrestler.

The character appeared in a Spider-Man comic in which the luchador wrestler attended a charity event organized by J. Jonah Jameson in which he hoped that El Muerto would defeat Spider-Man and unmask him in the ring.

Universal Amblin’s Tom Hanks Sci-Fi Movie ‘Bios’ Shifts A Week Later In August
Image
Here’s more fallout from Disney’s release date changes moves on Tuesday: With the studio dropping their 20th Century Studios’ Ryan Reynolds action comedy Free Guy on Aug. 13, Universal is now moving their Amblin Tom Hanks sci-fi film Bios, which was on that weekend, to Aug. 20 instead.

That leaves the calendar looking as follows:

August 13

Don’t Breathe 2 (Screen Gems)

Free Guy (20th, moved from May 21)

Respect (Uar)

August 20

Bios (Universal/Amblin)

The Hitman’s Wife Bodyguard (LG)

Paw Patrol (Paramount)

It’s only a matter of time that Reynolds’ Hitman’s Wife Bodyguard moves as well given the arrival of Free Guy.

In Bios, directed by Miguel Sapochnik and written by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell, a robot on a post-apocalyptic earth is built to protect the life of his creator’s beloved dog, learns about life, love, friendship and what it means to be human.
