Scott Adkins' 'Take Cover' Is a Streaming Hit on Tubi After Being Panned on Release
Image
Scott Adkins has carved himself an impressive niche as a go-to action star, landing roles in franchises such as John Wick, The Expendables, and Universal Soldier. Now, one of his most non-stop brutal movies of the last few years has found its way to the top of the Hulu Top 10. Take Cover was one of several Adkins-led movies released in 2024, and it was also one of his best reviewed of the year.

Directed by Nick McKinless, the British action movie features Alice Eve, Jack Parr, and Madalina Bellariu Ion alongside Adkins. The synopsis of the film reads:

“Scott Adkins has got no cover, no back-up, and no way out in this claustrophobic action thriller. Sam Lorde has spent a lifetime killing people. After a hit gone wrong, he finds himself disillusioned and lacking purpose, deciding to retire as a hitman. His final job however, results in him being a target himself.

On Set With Scott Adkins: How Britain’s Best Action Star Keeps Kicking
Image
On a Thursday in North London, Empire finds Scott Adkins conducting a symphony of pain. The blunt thud of bodies slamming into concrete; the wheeze of one criminal henchman, as a spin kick impacts his torso; the groans of the henchmen Adkins has already cooly dispatched, writhing on the floor… these are the sounds in the action star’s orchestra. They’re echoing around the North London underpass where filming is underway on Take Cover, his latest propulsive thriller. “You alright, mate?” the 48-year-old asks one stuntman who he sent spinning through the air like a rag doll, the second director Nick McKinless calls cut. The stuntman smiles and nods, ready to go again – because of course he is. To stuntmen in the action movie-making community in Britain, receiving a blow to the windpipe from Scott Adkins is something of an honour.

With over sixty films under his black belt,...

‘Take Cover’ Review

Stars: Scott Adkins, Jack Parr, Alice Eve, Madalina Bellariu Ion, Alba de Torrebruna | Written by Nick McKinless, Joshua Todd James | Directed by Nick McKinless

Take Cover is yet another take on one of, if not the most used plots in film, ready for retirement the protagonist, be they a spy, thief or killer for hire, agrees to one last job only to have it all go sideways. In this case, it’s Sam Lorde who we first see on a roof along with his spotter Ken talking about God as they wait for their target to arrive.

Their target does arrive, and they get their kill, but Sam also kills a woman who seemingly throws herself in front of him trying to save him. He retreats to his cabin in the woods to deal with this, and when their boss Tamara contacts him with his next assignment he tells her it will be his last.

Take Cover review – Scott Adkins hitman thriller makes Fast & Furious look like Gilbert and Sullivan
Jack Parr
Adkins’ veteran hitman goes against all action movie wisdom to accept ‘one last job’ – and promptly gets trapped in a hotel room and shot at

‘I fucking hate snipers,” says a meathead mercenary after finally laying hands on Scott Adkins’ marksman and using him to dust down an elevator. It’s hard not to have some sympathy, after the lengthy preamble of boorish buddy banter between jaded shooter Sam (Adkins) and his brash spotter Ken (Jack Parr) in this clunky huit clos action movie directed by longtime stuntman Nick McKinless. Their knucklehead repartee makes Fast & Furious look like Gilbert and Sullivan; clearly these are two guys who have spent too much time in each other’s company.

A veteran for some shadowy agency who handles government-approved assassinations, Sam loses his mojo after accidentally wounding a bystander. So he chooses to quit, but fails to observe long-established movie wisdom about never accepting One Last Job.

Take Cover Review: An Adkins-Driven Tour de Force
Image
As the elevator doors slide open, we’re thrust into an intriguing situation. Two seasoned snipers, Sam and Ken, have just arrived at their luxurious hotel penthouse for what should be a routine assignment. However, something doesn’t feel quite right. Their suspicions are quickly confirmed as bullets start blasting through the windows. An unseen enemy has them pinned down with no way out.

Stranded with no cover in the spacious penthouse, tensions rise as the threat draws nearer. Director Nick McKinless ratchets up the suspense through creative staging within the confined space. With the action hero chops of Scott Adkins leading the way, our protagonists must outwit a chorus of cold-hearted foes. Adkins energetically showcases his amazing martial arts skills, engaging in pulse-pounding fights using anything around them.

We learn these men have faced dangers together for years and share a natural rapport. Yet even their tight bond is tested under the extreme pressure.

Mickey Rourke gets into shape for Gareth Thomas biopic
Oscar-nominated actor's preparations to play 37-year-old Welsh rugby star reportedly include surgery and weight loss

The Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke has reportedly undergone surgery and lost more than two stone in his ongoing effort to portray gay Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas in a forthcoming biopic.

Rourke, 59, has hired a top personal trainer to get him into shape to play Thomas, 37, and has already had work done on his eyes, says the Daily Mail's Baz Bamingboye. Producer Colin Vaines said the 22-year age gap between the two men was not relevant. "When Mickey's committed, as he is with this, he can do anything. The age isn't a problem," he said.

Apparently Rourke is intrigued by the prospect of exploring the psychology which allowed Thomas to hide his sexuality. "It's a film about a man who played rugby, who was so aggressive when he played – and he happened to be gay,...

Mickey Rourke gets in shape to play gay rugby player in new movie - Realbollywood.com News
Mickey Rourke
London, Jan 20: Mickey Rourke has hired a top personal trainer to get him into shape to portray former Wales international legend Gareth Thomas in new movie.

The 59-year-old actor is looking lean and mean and has dropped two stone as he continues to transform his body, having already had work done on his eyes.

Producer Colin Vaines has contracted trainer and stunt co-ordinator Nick McKinless, who also happens to be a pretty good rugby player, to work with Rourke on engineering his body so that he could pass muster on the rugby pitch.

It was McKinless who got Ralph Fiennes into shape for the film 'Coriolanus',.
