Spoilers for "Daredevil: Born Again" follow.
On "Daredevil: Born Again," Wilson Fisk has traded in the Kingpin's criminal empire for Gracie Mansion. He protests that as mayor he's trying to change himself, and New York City, for the better but you'd be a fool to not be suspicious of him.
Just like "Born Again" is about Matt trying not to be Daredevil (and failing since the episode of 2), it's also about Fisk facing new challenges in the field of politics. The rub is that, despite his new legitimacy (running a city of 8 million people), Fisk has less power now as mayor than he did as the Kingpin.
As a public servant, he's accountable to voters, other lawmakers, and rules in place that he's supposed to follow. As Fisk's aide Sheila Rivera (Zabryna Guevara) explained to him, he can't just unilaterally decide to renovate the Red Hook Pier, he has...

After years of teasing cameos, Marvel’s the Man without Fear is finally back in Daredevil: Born Again, and the Disney+ show’s timing is fearlessly fantastic.
As Donald Trump prepares to address Congress tonight amidst tariffs, a stock market slump and dangerous intranational realignments and anxiety, it is a reminder it has become impossible the past month not to see almost everything through the distorted lens of a convicted felon president’s latest reign of terror and error.
With terms like “resist” and “retribution” employed in the long-awaited and creatively retooled Charlie Cox-led Born Again, the first Daredevil series since 2018 lines up to the real America of 2025 on a number of levels. Certainly, with the City Hall-aspiring Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) promising five boroughs voters to “keep our streets safe” to grab absolute power to abuse for riches, there is a lot of Maga here, as well as a lot of creativity and history.

A decade after Netflix debuted its “Daredevil” series — which ran for three seasons on the streamer — Charlie Cox has returned as the blind, masked vigilante in Disney+’s revival, “Daredevil: Born Again.” The TV show is a brilliantly detailed continuation, centering on a gutted Matt Murdock (Cox), whose newfound rage threatens to consume him. Furthermore, he’s contending with the re-emergence of Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin (a thrilling Vincent D’Onofrio), a volatile mobster who has just been elected mayor of New York City. This “Daredevil” revival is wonderfully complex. The show takes a sledgehammer to its former Netflix world, allowing the titular character and those orbiting him to transform under the weight and pain of time.
Created by Dario Scardapane, “Daredevil: Born Again” opens with several familiar faces. Matt and his best friends, Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), exit their law firm, Nelson,...

The wait is almost over!
While Blue Bloods is almost over, we still have one more season to spend with the Reagans, and the first half is about to air.
Spoilers for Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 1 suggest the final season will kick the drama up a notch, at least judging from what's planned for the season premiere.
As usual, most of the Reagans will have their own stories -- and Danny's revolves around his former partner, Darryl Reid.
After fourteen years, it's understandable if you've forgotten Reid's original story, which aired so long ago that Linda was still alive and Danny's kids were young.
On Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 10, Danny learned that his former partner had planted evidence against a murderer and had to race against time to find new proof the guy did it.
Don't panic if you don't recall this or weren't watching then. The new story...

As soon as the Writers Guild announced its strike on May 2 over a failure to agree on a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued statements to make it clear the work stoppage was top of mind. “Los Angeles relies on a strong entertainment industry that is the envy of the world while putting Angelenos to work in good, middle-class jobs,” Bass said. “I encourage all sides to come together around an agreement that protects our signature industry and the families it supports.”
For his part, Newsom noted that “when called in by both sides we’ll intervene, to the extent both sides are willing and interested in that,” adding that the strike “has profound consequences direct and indirect.” (A week later, President Biden also weighed in, noting that he hoped “the writers are given...

The artist David Wojnarowicz, who died of AIDS in 1992, used his queerness as a radical pose, a way of saying, as Chris McKim’s documentary “Wojnarowicz: F**k You F*ggot F***er notes,” “I’m not gay as in I love you, I’m queer as in fuck off.” An angry, traumatized painter, photographer, writer, musician, filmmaker, and activist, Wojnarowicz cut a striking figure: wiry, gaunt, sallow-faced. In other words, he didn’t exactly blend into the world, and so he idolized fellow rebel poets like Arthur Rimbaud and Jean Genet, outcasts who allowed him to see the falsities of straight society from the outside. Blending Wojnarowicz’s own audio journals with input from a handful of his contemporaries, .

The Brad Furman-directed crime thriller City of Lies has had quite a journey, but the Saban Films release finally hits theaters today before dropping on digital and on demand April 9.
Based on the book, LAbyrinth, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Randall Sullivan and adapted by Christian Contreras, City of Lies follows the investigation into the infamous murder of iconic rap artist Christopher Wallace aka the hip hop legend Notorious B.I.G.
Oscar and Emmy winner Forest Whitaker stars as Jack Jackson, a journalist who teams up with LAPD detective Russell Poole (Johnny Depp), who spent nearly 20 years trying to solve the murder. The two of them try to find the truth. They explore why the case remains cold — and why a secret division of the LAPD is seemingly set on keeping it that way.
It’s not a lie that City of Lies went through a lot to make its way to the theaters.

"Play On" felt like a bit of a letdown after the adrenaline shot to the heart that was Empire Season 3 Episode 10. Then again, anything was going to feel like a letdown after Cookie's big bust-up with Lucious.
On Empire Season 3 Episode 11, it was back to business as usual – literally. The usual people butted heads, fought for power, argued over music, and so on and so forth.
While these kinds of things happened in the spring premiere as well, that episode had the benefit of being the show's welcome return after a few months away. Two episodes in a row of similar storylines makes one realize how little the show has actually moved forward.
That isn't to say "Play On" wasn't an entertaining hour of television. There were plenty of great moments, starting with the return of the fabulous Vivica A. Fox as Cookie's high-society sister, Candace.

The narrative often sold to non-New Yorkers is that New York City in the 1980s was a cesspool, and then Rudy Giuliani came along in the 1990s to clean it up. Like most political narratives, it’s a little loose with the facts. Edward Koch, the mayor of New York in the ‘80s, surely wanted to clean up the city as well, but he also had his own problems to deal with. Neil Barsky’s new documentary Koch tells the story of that era in exacting detail, from Koch’s election in 1977 to his departure from the office in 1989.
The film begins in the present day, with the city council bitterly divided over whether or not it should name the Queensboro bridge after Koch. Barsky then flashes back to Koch’s first mayoral election, in which the former congressman first displayed the blunt brashness...

Ed Koch is everywhere at the moment, or at least in three documentaries: the one about the Central Park Five, the one about Aids activism in the 1980s (which was just shortlisted for an Oscar), and as the subject of Koch, a love letter to the former New York mayor, in which the filmmaker follows him around and documents his irreverence. (To wit: after Andrew Cuomo stood him up at an election rally, he calls Cuomo "a schmuck"; and Koch responds to a question about his sexuality with "It's none of your fucking business.")
A week ago, Ed Koch appeared in person at Lincoln Center, to answer questions after a screening of the documentary. He was frail and pushed to the stage in a wheelchair, but in spirited form,...

From Greenpoint to Gracie Mansion? The breakout hit HBO show Girls features young Brooklynites grasping for a sense of purpose and place in the big city, but unlike her characters, Lena Dunham is not wanting for recognition in her hometown. After a season of critical praise, criticism and notoriety, her comedy has reached the highest levels of city hall. “We love the show for inspiring people to move to New York City and become the ‘voice of a generation,’ as Hannah would say,” New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a three-term independent, told the New York Post;

Maybe you want to gather around the fire this Christmas, but you don't have a fireplace. Or you're a displaced New Yorker who wants a sliver of home on this holiday. Or maybe you've just watched one too many hours of "A Christmas Story." Whatever your reasoning, the classic Yule Log awaits.
A remarkable and unlikely story, the holiday tradition of showing a log burning in a festive fireplace, set to classic Christmas music, still burns on today. It began in 1966, on New York TV station Wpix, with a loop of a placid domestic scene at the Mayor's Gracie Mansion that was broadcast on Christmas Eve. A new video was shot in California in 1970, and for years, continued to be shown on that local channel and other networks throughout the nation. It went on hiatus in 1989, was brought back in 2001 and is shown to this day from 9 am to 1pm.

Could it be Jack Donaghy vs. Frasier Crane for mayor of New York? New reports are saying both Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer are considering running for the spot in Gracie Mansion.
The "30 Rock" star told The New York Times he can't run in 2013, due to obligations to the hit NBC show, but is still interested further down the line.
Instead, the 53-year-old said he may enroll in a master's program in politics and government,...

Playing a fictional mayer has apparently gone to Kelsey Grammer's head. The former Frasier star, a conservative Republican, has revealed he's got major political aspirations in real life and is dreaming of becoming the next mayor of New York City. With some seriously deep pockets and a move to the Big Apple, Grammer and his fourth wife, Kayte Walsh, could be seeing the inside of Gracie Mansion. So is he really planning on running? Admitting he has the "narcissistic personality" and "resilient ego" required for politics, says he will consider starting a second career as a would-be candidate once he's done with acting full-time. "I have a great career and...

First stop, 30 Rock. Next stop...Gracie Mansion? Alec Baldwin is rumored to be considering a run for mayor of New York City in 2013, now that U.S. Rep Anthony Weiner—once considered a promising contender for the Democratic nomination—has, to put it mildly, seriously damaged his credibility with his twitpic scandal. This certainly isn't the first time Baldwin has been a subject of speculation as far as public office goes. He certainly loves himself some NYC and he likes to tweet about economic issues. And, he's already got an inauguration-ball tux. Hang onto your talking points, because this rumor is... About as true as it can be, considering the election is more than two...

The New York Post's Cindy Adams quotes New York mayor Michael Bloomberg explaining why nobody's come forward to defend--or even support--Rep. Anthony Weiner. "Like Spitzer, he had no friends," Adams quotes Bloomberg, who hosted a "Made in New York" party at Gracie Mansion. Bloomberg said Weiner should've "owned up right away" to his history of sexting and using social media to flirt--and more--with young women.

Update: Amping up speculation, Baldwin's rep, Matthew Hiltzik, told The Hollywood Reporter, "I wouldn't rule it out," when asked about the potential run for mayor.
_____
Previously: Politically outspoken and long open about his interest in running for office, the local fallout of the Anthony Weiner scandal may have opened the door for Alec Baldwin to make his electoral move.
A friend of Baldwin's told Richard Johnson of The Daily that the Emmy-winning actor is mulling over a 2013 run for the Mayorship of New York City, following the exit of termed out incumbent Michael Bloomberg. Weiner has long had his eyes on Gracie Mansion, but his sexting scandal makes it much less likely that he'll run, at least successfully.
"Alec said, 'Hey, maybe this changes the race. The dynamics have shifted,'" the friend told Johnson. "The Democrats need a high-profile candidate, and Alec can fill that bill."
Baldwin is an ardent Democrat,...

Matt Damon was the guest of honor at last night's Made in NY Awards held at the mayor's residence, Gracie Mansion, in NYC. Matt picked up a prize from Mayor Bloomberg and the commissioner of NYC's Office of Film, Katherine Oliver, for his commitment to making movies in the Big Apple. Other notable residents of the city, like Real Housewives of New York stars Jill Zarin, Ramona Singer, and LuAnn de Lesseps turned out with Bravo mastermind Andy Cohen to toast Matt's achievement. Mayor Bloomberg made a quip about his brief, seven-second scene in The Adjustment Bureau before turning things over to Matt, who spoke about his four daughters and East Coast home base. Matt Damon said of his daughters Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella, "I wish they were here tonight, but they are sleeping. . . . I'm just so proud to live here." View Slideshow ›...

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Katherine Oliver, commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Media & Entertainment, honored six individuals and organizations at the sixth annual "Made in NY" Awards on Monday. The honorees have made significant contributions to New York's new-media and entertainment businesses. "The entertainment industry in this city represents over 100,000 jobs and brings in almost $5 billion annually to the city's economy," Bloomberg said at the Gracie Mansion ceremony. In 2010, more than 200 films and 30 television series were shot in the city, the mayor and Oliver noted. Bloomberg added, "New York City is the entertainment capital of the world, the talent capital of the world, and the media capital of the world. And tonight we honor some of those who help make that so."This year's recipients were actors John Leguizamo and Matt Damon, the social media website Foursquare, MoviePass CEO Stacy Spikes,...

Robert Kennedy Jr. Climbs The Last Mountain
By Alex Simon
In addition to sharing his father’s legendary name, Robert Kennedy Jr. has carved out a legacy of his own as one of the Nation’s, and the world’s, leading environmental activists and advocates. Born the third of Robert Sr. and Ethel Kennedy’s eleven children, Bobby Jr., as he became known, had an altruistic streak almost from the day he could walk, bringing home stray and sick animals he’d find in the woods behind Hickory Hill, the family’s rambling estate in Virginia. Kennedy followed his father’s footsteps in college, matriculating from Harvard, followed by a J.D. from University of Virginia Law School.
Kennedy started to devote himself almost exclusively to environmental law beginning in 1984, when he sued the alleged polluters of the Hudson River on behalf of the Riverkeepers organization, who then made him their chief counsel.

A couple days ago, I mentioned that Modern Family might be doing something extraordinary with a plotline about Mitchell’s assistant. I put too much into that, because it’s going to be so much less than I hoped for. But really, that’s my fault, because what I imagined didn’t really fit the show.

I know, the din from all the Oscar bait is much too loud to ignore but, I implore you, do what you can to see an emotionally evocative film that takes the “ripped from the headlines” to a whole new level. At the center of a very real murder mystery is Ryan Gosling who plays David Marks, a man who may or may not have killed his wife. Whether he did or not is where this film departs from so many procedurals where the outcome is the one thing that’s needed by an audience who has to know, unequivocally, whether the accused did it or not. You will not get that...
