Is A Batman: Knightfall Animated Trilogy In The Works At Warner Bros.? Here's Everything We Know So Far
Image
With DC Studios setting out to create a single shared Dcu (with a handful of "Elseworlds" projects like The Batman franchise), it's unclear what that means for Warner Bros. Animation's direct-to-dvd DC offerings.

2024 has seen the release of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths and Watchmen, though July's San Diego Comic-Con didn't bring the usual annual announcements about what's next. As a result, most fans expect these movies to be quietly scrapped.

Now, though, it appears there either are - or were - plans for an animated trilogy based on Batman: Knightfall.

Based on recent filings on the Entertainment Identifier Registry (Eidr) system, which "provides a unique identifier for audiovisual content across the global entertainment industry," DC Animated Universe veteran Jeff Wamester (who helmed the Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy) will helm this adaptation of the iconic storyline.

He's been a huge part of the Tomorrowverse which essentially ended...

Review: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3
Image
When DC Comics unleashed the Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985, it had two missions: celebrating 50 years of the publisher and cleaning the continuity, making the comic books more accessible to entice new readers. Throughout 2024, a year shy of the maxiseries’ 40th anniversary, the three-part direct-to-disc project was cleaning up or clearing out the revised continuity of Warner Animation’s DC Comics universe.

Part three arrived in late July and is welcome after the deeply disjointed and disappointing Part Two. Screenwriter Jim Krieg couldn’t seem to figure out how to pace this middle section but recovered for a stronger, but still flawed, finale. What should have been a fast-paced story that slows down to give key characters their moment continues to focus too much on one set of characters, too much talking, and not enough fun scenes chock full of heroes we’re not likely to see otherwise.

Crisis On Infinite Earths - Part 3 Digital Version Makes A Major Change To Mark Hamill's Joker Voice
Image
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three marks the late Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman as he returns as the version of the hero from Batman: The Animated Series.

Making that even more special is the fact Mark Hamill reprises the role of The Joker...or does he? When the movie was released, fans were quick to point out that something sounded off about his Clown Prince of Crime and many doubted it was even Hamill at all.

Still, the legendary Star Wars actor was credited as The Joker and, when we spoke to longtime DC Animated Universe executive producer Butch Lukic, he also confirmed it was Hamill voicing the villain.

"Once we told Hamill...we told him, 'Look, Kevin is doing it' and he always called us if Kevin was doing even just a couple of lines," Lukic explained. "He said, 'As long as Kevin is doing it,...

Butch Lukic has been a fixture of the DC Animated Universe for decades and, in recent years, he's been tasked with overseeing the "Tomorrowverse" as an executive producer.

As a result, he's played a crucial role in all 10 of those direct-to-dvd features, starting with Superman: Man of Tomorrow and culminating with the recently released Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three. There's a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the future of these movies, but we were fortunate enough to once again catch up with Butch to discuss the newly released threequel.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three EP Butch Lukic On Honoring Various DC Stories
Image
The Tomorrowverse concludes with Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths, Part Three after ten movies. DC Animation's future direction remains uncertain as a new continuity emerges after the Justice League trilogy. Lukic pays tribute to multiple DC animated universes in the final installment, integrating iconic styles.

Butch Lukic looks back at the end of the Tomorrowverse while paying tribute to previous DC franchises in Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths, Part Three. While it started back in 2020, everything has a beginning, middle, and end, which is the case for the Tomorrowverse. After ten movies, the creative team is officially concluding the franchise, and to go out with a bang, an animated adaptation of Crisis On Infinite Earths was picked.

Following the dramatic ending to Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths, Part Two, the third and final chapter brought the endgame to life. As worlds died while heroes fell, Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths,...

Butch Lukic Shares Original Plans for Crisis on Infinite Earths Trilogy
Image
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths is the epic event movie trilogy from Warner Bros. Animation that ends the Tomorrowverse era of the DC Animated Movie Universe (Dcamu). The chapter that started with 2020's Superman: Man of Tomorrow included the adaptation of the iconic storyline Batman: The Long Halloween, and saw the animated debut of the Justice Society of America and the Legion of Super-Heroes in their own eponymous films. In addition to spotlighting DC's heroes beyond the iconic Justice League, the Tomorrowverse also introduced the DC Multiverse as part of its larger storyline.

In an interview with Cbr, producer Butch Lukic shared additional details about the initial planning of the Crisis on Infinite Earths movie adaptation, and how this factored into the larger plans for the Tomorrowverse. Lukic also discussed whether James Gunn's and Peter Safran's promotion as DC Studios' managers impacted Warner Bros. Animation's plans for the Tomorrowverse.

Crisis on Infinite Earths EP Hopes the Multiverse Trilogy Helps Get Batman Beyond Revived
Image
Many wonderful cameos were in store for fans with all three installments of the animated Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy. This includes a callback to Batman Beyond with Will Friedle reprising his role from the beloved animated series.

In an interview with ComingSoon.net, executive producer Butch Lukic addressed the return of Friedle's Batman. Lukic admitted that one reason why it was important to include the Batman Beyond reference is because he's aware of the chatter there has been over the years of resurrecting the series in some way. It's hoped that by giving the fans a small taste of Friedle back in the role of Terry McGinnis that there will finally be some real traction made with giving Batman Beyond a revival.

Butch Lukic has been a fixture of the DC Animated Universe for decades and, in recent years, he's been overseeing the "Tomorrowverse" as an executive producer.

As a result, he's overseen all 10 of those direct-to-dvd features, starting with Superman: Man of Tomorrow and culminating with the recently released Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three. A great deal has changed since the former was released in 2020 and with DC Studios now looking to make a single, shared Dcu, where does that leave these popular movies?

We asked Lukic about that earlier this week and he told us, "You never know. Right now, I couldn't say anything as far as what they want to do beyond these."

"Obviously, the James Gunn DC Universe is what's important right now; as far as anything to jump off of this stuff, I think it's very secondary," he explained, "so it's going to be more...

Kevin Conroy's Final Batman Performance Addressed by Crisis on Infinite Earths Producer
Image
Kevin Conroy's voice can be heard in his final performance as Batman in the new animated movie Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three. Looking back, DC Animated Universe executive producer Butch Lukic reflected on Conroy recording his lines for what turned out to be his last hurrah as the Dark Knight.

Per ComicBookMovie.com, Lukic shared how it was even joked about during the recording session that Conroy was recording Batman lines for the final time. However, it wasn't truly intended at the time for that to be the final performance of Conroy as the character. Lukic noted how nobody knew at the time that Conroy was ill, and he's not even sure if the voice actor himself was aware just yet.

Crisis On Infinite Earths Producer Reflects On Kevin Conroy Recording His Final Batman Performance (Exclusive)
Image
When the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video game was released earlier this year, the response from fans was not good. It turns out that Task Force X brutally killing their favourite heroes wasn't something they wanted from DC, and it being the late Kevin Conroy's final time playing Batman only served to heighten the backlash.

We'd later learn that Conroy had recorded dialogue for Warner Bros. Animation's Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy and, in a sequence which sees us visit various alternate realities, the Dark Knight faces his greatest foe (Mark Hamill's Joker) one final time.

"I care Joker...about Gotham. About justice. And, if it has to end, at least I go out like this...being Batman!"

Despite his role in the Multiversal movie being brief, it served as one hell of a tribute to the beloved Batman: The Animated Series star who sadly died in 2022 after battling cancer.

Crisis On Infinite Earths - Part Three: Check Out Kevin Conroy's Final Scene As Batman Here - Spoilers
Image
Earlier this year, DC fans were upset to learn that the critically panned Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video game would likely be Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman following his death in 2022.

Why was Conroy's role in the game so controversial? Well, it portrayed the Dark Knight in a villainous light and featured what appeared to be his brutal demise at the hands of one Harley Quinn.

We'd later learn that Conroy recorded dialogue for Warner Bros. Animation's Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy and that can finally be heard in the third instalment which went on sale earlier today. It comes in a sequence which sees us visit various alternate realities - including Justice League Unlimited - with Batman: The Animated Series among them.

As the world ends, the Dark Knight faces his greatest foe (Mark Hamill's Joker) one final time. And, the...

“DC Comics and AT&T decided they want PG-13”: Multiple Batman: The Long Halloween Part 1 Deleted Scenes Could’ve Fulfilled a Lifelong Dream for Fans
Image
There are a slew of R-rated superhero films and shows in the current landscape of the genre, yet there are certain classic superheroes who can benefit from such storytelling. Batman is one such character that can do wonders with an R-rating. However, it doesn’t t make sense for any IP to change ratings in between installments, which makes what happened with the two-part animated adaptation of The Long Halloween even more frustrating.

A still from Batman: The Long Halloween

One odd feature of The Long Halloween duology is how the first film is a PG-13 film, while its sequel was given an R-rating. In an interview with Comics Beat, Producer Butch Lukic revealed why this was the case. However, while AT&T might have been okay with the arrangement, fans were rightly mad at the lackluster handling of the rating.

Crisis On Infinite Earths - Part Three Trailer Features [Spoiler] As Release Date is Finally Revealed
Image
The first full-length trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three has just hit (via Toonado.com), and it teases what looks to be a high-stakes finale to this animated trilogy (and the Tomorrowverse as we know it).

With the Anti-Monitor on the loose, a whole host of heroes assemble to save the Multiverse, but it looks like that will be easier said than done when they also have Lex Luthor to contend with. Several other villains are also spotted, including The Joker, Scarecrow, and Two-Face.

In terms of cameos, the trailer ends with another Batman: The Animated Series tease. Batman Beyond also appears, but perhaps the biggest surprise comes when we return to the world of the Super Friends!

The Saturday morning cartoon aired between 1973 and 1985 on ABC and was produced by Hanna-Barbera. That classic animation style returns here and we're hoping the movie has even...

Throughout its decade-long run, Arrowverse was mostly a mixed bag when it came to delivering quality TV. But it had its fair share of moments, with one of its biggest highlights being 2019’s Crisis on Infinite Earths adaptation, which is also seen as the last high point for the series. And with Tomorrowverse on the verge of its end, which will follow the Crisis on Infinite Earths Storyline to conclude the saga, fans have been wondering if it will take notes from the CW version.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Took a Radical Animation Decision That Was an Industry-First for Dcau: “It was tough”
Image
The Dcau has constantly pushed boundaries when it comes to storytelling in the animated medium. The popular Timmverse of the ‘90s and 2000s dealt with mature themes that were seldom spoken about in the medium which was usually aimed at children. With Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, the team seems to have gone for a radical design that took a while for studios to understand.

Based on the popular comic book arc of the same name, Crisis on Infinite Earths sees multiple universes collide and DC’s beloved heroes meeting alternate versions of themselves. The storyline is split into three parts in the Dcau, with the third and final part set to be released later this year.

“We don’t have the money”: Bruce Timm Said One Alex Ross DC Comic Arc is So ‘Photorealistic’ Even WB Didn’t Have the Budget for a Dcau Film

Comic books make up the bulk of pop culture literature today. And what makes them special is their gorgeous art that gives wings to our imagination. In the history of DC and Marvel comics, very few artists have gone on to receive legendary status. Alex Ross is definitely one of them, whose works in both industry powerhouses are nothing short of dreams coming to reality.

Artwork of Superman: Kingdom Come from DC Comics.

Though Ross has given life to numerous comics and novels during his career, his collaboration with Mark Waid in the 1996 miniseries Kingdom Come completely blew the minds of comic book enthusiasts. Not only was the futuristic storyline loved by many, but the life-like etchings of DC superheroes almost felt like a lively screen of a movie or TV show.

While Batman Beyond was a phenomenon upon its release, lauded as one of the best Batman stories told onscreen, the creators never really expanded on it after its initial run. Even 25 years after its debut, Return of the Joker remains its only feature film, which failed to make it big during its DVD release for being too dark for kids.

However, per Bruce Timm’s long-time collaborator Butch Lukic, there were once talks about revisiting Terry McGinnis’ story, but unfortunately, the idea never took off the ground.
