When Amanda Knox walked into a lecture hall in 2017 to give her first-ever public talk, she was terrified. For years, her face had been splashed across tabloids, her words twisted into headlines, her silence filled in by strangers. Luckily for her, sharing the stage that day was a woman who’d been through the same media meat grinder — indeed, who’d become a household name before she was old enough to rent a car.
Knox begged the event organizers for a chance to meet Monica Lewinsky privately. So, Lewinsky later invited her up to her hotel room, made her a pot of tea and ended up sharing the kind of big-sister guidance that only a fellow scandal-press survivor could offer.
“She had a lot of advice about reclaiming your voice and your narrative,” Knox says. “That ended up being a turning point for me.”
Knox took that advice about reclaiming her narrative literally.

Amanda Knox is looking to break free from the one thing that defines her — but first, as the actress playing her says in the trailer, she has to go back.
“Many people think they know my story. But now, finally, it’s my turn to tell it,” says Grace Van Patten in the role of Knox for Hulu’s forthcoming limited series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.
In the first footage (below), the Tell Me Lies star makes her debut as Knox for the series that also boasts Knox as a producer behind the scenes, along with Monica Lewinsky.
The scripted series, inspired by actual events, spans 15 years to cover the time from Knox’s infamous murder accusation in Perugia, Italy, up to modern day. The trailer asks if the truth exists if no one believes it, and sees Van Patten saying, “For 15 years, I’ve been defined by...

It’s pilot season at ABC. The broadcast network, which has been leaning into its “second cycle” strategy involving off-cycle pilot orders targeting midseason, picked up its first 2025 pilot, Rj Decker, in May, with Scott Speedman recently cast as the lead. It may soon be joined by another crime drama pilot led by a TV star in his 40s-50s, The Rookie North.
The spinoff, from The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley, has been gaining momentum for a pilot order, which would come once the lead is cast. A handful of known actors have already been approached for the role, I hear.
The Rookie North is one of several projects in serious pilot consideration at ABC, along with the long-gestating Scrubs reboot, and two family comedies, the Rachel Bloom starrer Do You Want Kids?, which features a couple with and without a baby, and Mittens, which revolves around a neighborhood cat.

Free ad-supported streamer The Network has acquired the timely documentary “War Game,” which will premiere July 4 as its next original. Deal comes as The Network pickes up the film from distributor Boat Rocker; the project will now be branded a Network original in association with Boat Rocker Studios and Anonymous Content.
Jesse Moss and Tony Gerber directed “War Game,” which follows “a bipartisan group of U.S. defense, intelligence, and elected policymakers spanning five presidential administrations who participate in an unscripted role-play exercise in which they confront a political coup backed by rogue members of the U.S. military, in the wake of a contested presidential election.”
Described as a look at what could have happened during the tragic Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, “War Game” was organized by Vet Voice Foundation and takes place in a simulated Situation Room.

"Seinfeld" is widely recognized as one of the greatest sitcoms of all time because of its ingenuity to think outside its television constraints. Whether it's an episode taking place in a single location like "The Chinese Restaurant" or breaking television taboos with a masturbation contest (that never even says the word), the NBC comedy kept breaking new ground. It all makes sense when you remember that the show was created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, both of whom were comedians throwing all these crazy ideas out there to see what sticks. "Seinfeld" certainly had its missteps along the way, but for the most part, its plots and gags were starting to ingrain in the pop culture zeitgeist. It took time, however, for the show to really become the water cooler phenomenon it's remembered for.

The difference between a good show and a great show is ingenuity. If you're doing what everyone else is doing, there's nothing inherently wrong with sticking to what works. But when you push beyond the conventions, that's when the magic happens, and "Seinfeld" had plenty of it. The hit NBC sitcom about a chaotic group of inconsiderate friends living in New York forged its path to becoming one of the best sitcoms of all time by thinking outside the box. It caused a ripple effect throughout the world of television comedy that lasted for years, impacting shows like "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
For as treasured as the series is today, "Seinfeld" wasn't an instant phenomenon. It had to slowly grow its identity and fanbase over the course of its first few seasons until "The Contest" cemented the show as must-watch television. The episode where you...

Plenty of TV directors have had hot streaks, but few have been as prolific as the one Tom Cherones experienced on "Seinfeld." The filmmaker got in on the ground level of the uproarious NBC sitcom, and stuck with the show through the end of its fifth season. By that point, Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld's "show about nothing" was on its way to the top of the TV heap, climbing the Nielson ratings and taking over the cultural zeitgeist with phrases like "master of my domain" and "not that there's anything wrong with that!"
Cherones was there for it all, and he didn't just tag in behind the camera every few episodes like many filmmakers do today. Instead, the director helmed a whopping 80 episodes of the first five seasons -- out of just 86. The show's pilot, the Philip Baker Hall guest-starrer "The Library," and Jason Alexander's directorial debut...

The teaser trailer for The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox sees Grace Van Patten as Amanda Knox, fighting for her life.
The series is based on Knox’s harrowing journey to prove her innocence and regain her freedom after being wrongfully imprisoned for her roommate’s murder. Knox, a Seattle native, was studying abroad in Italy at the time. After being initially convicted for murder in 2007, she was later acquitted by Italy’s highest court in 2015.
“Many people think they know my story, but now it’s my turn to tell it,” Van Patten’s Knox can be heard saying in the footage (below), which debuted during game five of the NBA Finals on Monday.
“A limited series inspired by the story of how Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for the tragic murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free,” the show’s logline reads.

Author Margaret Atwood and show creator Bruce Miller explained in The Hollywood Reporter‘s recent oral history on the Hulu series how Atwood’s sequel novel The Testaments, which published in 2019, set The Handmaid’s Tale series ending on a different course: The Testaments takes place after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale and centers on the young girls in Gilead who are training to be wives — and that includes Hannah (who has been renamed Agnes), the daughter of Elisabeth Moss’ starring character, June Osborne.
Because Hannah is in Gilead when The Testaments will begin, The Handmaid’s Tale couldn’t end with June reuniting with her first-born daughter, which leaves the image of Hannah being ripped...

Gilead isn’t finished yet. Though The Handmaid’s Tale closed its final chapter on May 27 after a gripping six-season run, its legacy lives on — through the eyes of a new generation.
Hulu’s next installment, The Testaments, is not just a continuation, but a bold reimagination of Margaret Atwood’s dystopia, diving deeper into the cracks of a crumbling empire.
Brief Details About ‘The Testaments’
If The Handmaid’s Tale was June Osborne’s story, The Testaments belong to the daughters — and the formidable Aunt who’s still standing.

“It really is about what it’s like to be young and full of energy when the country is trying to turn you into something awful… When all of a sudden they’ve been telling you, ‘you are wonderful, you’re perfect,...

Calling the final scenes of the six-season series “a very meta experience to film,” star, director, and executive producer Elisabeth Moss described the moment her character, June Osborne, walks through the ruins of the Waterfords’ home and reflects on her past as a handmaid, known as Offred, in the Boston household.

With the Emmy-winning adaptation of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid’s Tale wrapping up the six-season arc of the revolutionary June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), fans can finally celebrate Boston’s liberation from the authoritarian clutches of Gilead. It’s been a harrowing journey for June since the show’s 2017 premiere, and she can't entirely celebrate with her daughter Hannah still behind Gilead’s borders. With Hulu hard at work on The Testaments, an adaptation of Atwood’s 2019 sequel novel set years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, audiences will get a greater degree of resolution over the future of Hannah and the rest of the women under Gilead’s thumb. Here's how The Handmaid’s Tale’s Season 6 resolution sets up for that highly anticipated follow-up.

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Showrunner Teases Aunt Lydia's “Very, Very Different” Role in ‘The Testaments’
After six seasons that aired from April 26, 2017 to May 27, 2025, The Handmaid’s Tale came to an end, but unfortunately without June (Elisabeth Moss) reuniting with her kidnapped daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake). Hannah was not seen much in the dystopian show’s final run, but she’s set to be one of the leads of the upcoming spin-off, The Testaments, which will continue the tragic story of Gilead. Production is currently ongoing for the follow-up in Toronto, Canada, and in addition to Hannah, it has already been previously confirmed that Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) is another returning central character.
Days before The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 concluded, executive producer Warren Littlefield hinted at how Lydia’s new perspective in the wake of the Jezebels' massacre will reshape her mindset going into The Testaments. Now, the spin-off’s showrunner, Bruce Miller, also the creator of the original series, is teasing how much of the character can be expected,...

Blessed be the Emmys rulebook, but it needs some serious updating.
With “The Handmaid’s Tale” having taken its final bow, Hulu has confirmed its official Emmy submissions for the critically acclaimed drama, with one entry in particular already causing waves.
Variety has learned exclusively that the streamer has submitted Alexis Bledel in the guest drama actress category for her appearance in the series finale (“610 – The Handmaid’s Tale”), despite a newly enforced Emmy rule disqualifying actors who have been previously nominated in a lead or supporting category for the same show. Bledel won the Emmy for guest in 2017, and garnered two additional noms in the same category in 2020 and 2021. However, in 2018, after appearing in seven of the 13 episodes for a season, she was ineligible to compete as a guest; she was submitted and eventually nominated for supporting drama actress. The one-year recognition for her character, Ofglen, appears to fall outside the bounds of eligibility,...

With just two weeks until The Handmaid's Tale delivers its series finale, the show is already putting the pieces in place for the upcoming sequel seriesThe Testaments. We don't know much about what to expect from the new show, but we do know that at least one character will cross over from one series to the other. Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) started the show as a hateful and abusive character, but now she is starting to realize that she is only a cog in a much, much bigger engine. During a panel with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, series executive producer Warren Littlefield (The Old Man) talked about Aunt Lydia and where her head is at this point in the series.
Over the course of the series' six seasons, Aunt Lydia has seen many atrocities committed at Gilead, and she herself was at the front of several of them. But a couple of weeks ago,...

[This story contains Major spoilers from season six, episode nine of The Handmaid’s Tale, “Execution.”]
There’s no such thing as a good Commander.
The Handmaid’s Tale‘s writers have been passing along that message to viewers throughout the sixth and final season of the Hulu series. When Nick (Max Minghella) shocked his lover June (Elisabeth Moss) with the Jezebel’s betrayal, her husband Luke (O-t Fagbenle) argued it’s because he’s a Nazi. When Wharton (Josh Charles) surprised his new wife with a handmaid on their wedding night, Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) remembered June’s warning: Wharton can’t be a good man, because he’s a man of Gilead.
Yet killing three High Commanders is still a shocking final-season surprise: In the penultimate episode, titled “Execution” (written by co-showrunner Eric Tuchman and directed by star Elisabeth Moss), Nick Blaine, Joseph Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) and Gabriel Wharton all perished. Lawrence was planning to plant an altitude-triggered bomb on...

The most recent Handmaid’s Tale episode found Aunt Lydia, the violent and staunch Gilead apologist played by Ann Dowd, sobbing on the floor as she beseeched God for help. What sent one of the series’ scariest characters to her knees, you might wonder? A conversation with June that forced the older woman to come to terms with the reality of her role as a fixer for religious rape. (Read a full episode recap here.)

As real life and The Handmaid’s Tale have taught us, the patriarchy isn’t going to smash itself. And we don’t begrudge an oppressed faction any advantage in winning its fight. But when we watched the Hulu drama’s most recent episode, something leapt out at us: Isn’t cake a really iffy hook on which to hang handmaid liberation?
Confused? We’ll back up a moment. This week’s Handmaid’s Tale found Elisabeth Moss’ June and Samira Wiley’s Moira back in Gilead and undercover as handmaids in order to lead their enslaved sisters in mass murder.

As every Saturday Night Live season comes to an end, a handful of cast members learn they won’t be invited back for another year. For comedians who struggle to make their way into sketches, they can probably read the writing on the wall. But after one season in the mid-1990s, a number of the show’s biggest stars got the ax.
Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman and Mike Myers had already said their goodbyes, leaving the SNL spotlight focused squarely on Adam Sandler and Chris Farley. While young viewers worshipped the comics, older fans — and network executives — didn’t think the current cast was working out. Don Ohlmeyer, the NBC honcho who later pushed for the ouster of Norm Macdonald, first set his sights on Sandler and Farley, according to Lorne: The Man Who Invented Saturday Night Live.

They may well be the unsung heroes of television production. Non-writing producers (NWPs) have a rather unsexy title, but they’re often key to making the magic happen. While they may not put pen to paper — or fingers to keyboard, as the case may be — their work is intrinsic in bringing our favorite series to life. Here, the NWPs behind three of the season’s top contenders — Handmaid’s Tale’s Warren Littlefield, Black Mirror’s Jessica Rhoades, and Day of the Jackal’s Gareth Neame — reveals the tricks of their (elusive) trade.
Gold Derby: With all due credit to Liam Neeson and Taken, what is the special set of skills it takes to accomplish this job with this horrible title?
Warren Littlefield: First of all, listen. You need to be a good listener, and then you need to turn that into an action plan. My number one skill is,...

Conan the Barbarian was created by author Robert E. Howard in the early 1930s – and around the time of the character’s 50th anniversary, he was brought to life on the screen in an incredibly popular movie (titled Conan the Barbarian) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger reprised the role in the less popular sequel, Conan the Destroyer, in 1984, and while there were plans for another sequel in the ’80s, but it never made it into production. And even though Schwarzenegger has been saying for years that he wants to play Conan again, somehow it has never happened. Instead, we got a Conan the Barbarian reboot in 2011 – a movie that star Jason Momoa has described as “a big pile of sh*t.” Five years ago, it was announced that the Netflix streaming service had secured a deal with Conan Properties International that gave them the right to dig through the entire catalog...

Regardless of genre, television series lean heavily on the will-they-or-won't-they relationship between two main characters to generate real-life and online buzz. You know how it works: two seemingly mismatched characters (e.g. the "Cheers" duo of Ted Danson's caddish Sam Malone and Shelley Long's intellectual Diane Chambers) discover, often to their own disgust, that they're hot for this person they should despise to the marrow of their bones, and it's only a matter of time before their spark-shooting flirtation leads to a full-on sexual conflagration. We've seen it more recently with Tony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) on "NCIS" (which spawned the forthcoming "NCIS: Tony and Ziva"), and we'll see it over and over again because the hoary formula works.
This is another reason why "Seinfeld" is one of the most brilliant shows in television history. There was no will-they-or-won't-they because the only "they...

A real-life incident when Michael Richards had to wear a ratty hotel bathrobe to a formal NBC party? The whole story was so Kramer-esque that I can’t believe Larry David didn’t turn it into a Seinfeld episode.
It was January 1994, right in the middle of Seinfeld’s peak of popularity. NBC was gathering all of its affiliates, advertisers and muckety-mucks for a mid-season event, and the Seinfeld cast was the main attraction. The network even ponied up for a private jet. “No way NBC is flying us private unless we are red hot,” Richards wrote in his memoir, Entrances and Exits.
The flight was fancy, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus wasn’t nuts about their hotel accommodations. “This place is a dump,” she laughed when she called Richards about her less-than-swanky room. Richards wasn’t as discerning — hey, it was free and the TV worked. But it turned out that the hotel had other shortcomings.

The Handmaid’s Tale executive producers Bruce Miller and Warren Littlefield recently explained how Gilead will be portrayed differently in Hulu’s upcoming sequel spinoff The Testaments. Production on the new show began in April 2024, with franchise lead Elisabeth Moss attached as an executive producer.
During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Miller and Littlefield expressed their excitement about The Testaments, introducing a side of Gilead as seen through the eyes of girls who grew up within the totalitarian system. "I think June was at the very bottom of the ladder in Gilead. She was barely considered a woman," Miller said. "But her daughter, Agnes Mackenzie, who's still stuck in Gilead, is at the very top of the order. So, what you realize is that they're incredibly valued by Gilead, but it doesn't matter. Being at the top or being at the bottom is still sh***y for a woman in Gilead.

For a time they were everywhere — women clad in striking crimson cloaks, inspired by the Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale,” silently calling attention to threats to women’s reproductive rights, from Brett Kavanaugh’s 2018 Supreme Court nomination hearing to protests in the U.K., Ireland, Poland and Argentina.
Eight years after its premiere, the series adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel is coming to a much lower-key close, indicative of all that’s happened in that intervening time, and the toll that becoming an iconic symbol, far beyond a mere TV show, can creatively exact on any work of art.
The subject matter of “The Handmaid’s Tale” obviously lent itself to that, but when the show began its trek to the screen, few could have clearly anticipated the way real-life events would draw it further into the collision of politics and pop culture, an intersection as treacherous to navigate...

While opening up about saying farewell “The Handmaid’s Tale” after six seasons, the show’s creative team said it felt the series didn’t warn people enough about the dangers of authoritarianism amid President Donald Trump’s contentious return to the White House.
“It’s shocking to me, when I think about when I joined the show, I had more rights as a woman than I have now,” co-showrunner and executive producer Yahlin Chang told TheWrap. “Leaving the show, we created this sort of cautionary tale, and I think we kind of failed, or we didn’t caution enough people, because we’re in even darker days now, which is unbelievable.”

Hulu’s adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale is ending with its sixth season as the network and producers begin work on an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s sequel, The Testaments. As the final season begins, stars Elisabeth Moss, Bradley Whitford and Yvonne Strahovski and writer/executive producer Yahlin Chang previewed the final season Saturday at Deadline’s Contenders TV event.
Whitford marveled at how Moss’ June Osborne character has inspired reprehensible characters to change for the better, even slightly. In the dictatorship of Gilead, June was named Offred and made the handmaid of Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes). Handmaids were the remaining fertile women, forcibly impregnated by Commanders. June led a handmaid rebellion and escaped to Canada, from which she also has to flee as Season 6 begins.

As Hulu’s dystopian series “The Handmaid’s Tale” comes to an end, Elisabeth Moss looks back on playing June Osborne with admiration.
“I hope that she gives courage to somebody who needs it, whether it’s in our country or another country,” Moss told Variety about the handmaid turned freedom fighter. “She’s somebody that people can hopefully look up to. She’s very brave, and I look up to her.”
The hit show returns with its sixth and final season on April 8, and audiences should brace for an explosive finale as the rebellion in Gilead finally ignites.

The Handmaid’s Tale may be coming to an end, but Hulu is not saying goodbye to Gilead. Earlier this week, the streamer officially picked up sequel The Testaments to series.

It will follow June’s (Moss) daughter Hannah, known in Gilead as Agnes, and the team behind the series revealed some more key details at the The Handmaid’s Tale‘s final season premiere on Wednesday.

Exclusive: Hulu’s Margaret Atwood adaptation of The Testaments has found its first director.
Emmy-nominated The Handmaid’s Tale and Fargo helmer Mike Barker will direct the first three eps and also EP the high-profile MGM Television-produced series, which has been in the works for a while and is nearing greenlight. Other directors are yet to be revealed.
British director Barker has helmed 12 eps of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, recognized with two Emmy noms. His other credits include ITV hit Broadchurch, Fargo and David Duchovny-starring Prime Video thriller Malice, which launches later this year.
Bruce Miller’s Testaments series is one of the hottest TV shows percolating at present. The Handmaid’s Tale sequel has cast Presumed Innocent‘s Chase Infiniti as one of the three leads, joining Ann Dowd, who had been expected to reprise her Emmy-winning role as Lydia, and Lucy Halliday (Blue Jean). We understand cameras will roll soon in Canada.
