Per Variety, the Scrubs revival reboot has officially been given a full series order at ABC, and two original cast members, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke, are set to join fellow original cast member Zach Braff in the new show. News of the straight-to-series order broke today, with the reboot of the quirky hospital comedy aiming for the 2025-26 season.
Original series creator Bill Lawrence emphasized that the Scrubs reboot begins and ends with Jd and Turk, saying, "‘Scrubs’ means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.” Indeed, the show was never really going to work without at least Faison on board, judging from the new logline which was also just released:
"Jd (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time- medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time.

‘Ted Lasso’ is probably the most beloved show to come out of the beginnings of Covid-19. In the early days of the Pandemic, many people wanted to turn to something warm and comforting to escape what life had become in the world. This unassuming show about an American Football Coach flying to London to coach a Premier Soccer League has taken off in enormous fashion, getting critical and commercial buzz throughout its entire existence. Who would’ve thought that a farcical concept that started out as an NBC sketch could be given so much emotional weight? Apparently, Jason Sudeikis and co-creators Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly. Their knack for telling sincere stories in a genuinely sophisticated way has brought a much-needed dose of kindness to the cynicism of modern television. Everybody’s favorite soccer coach came back for its third (and supposedly final) season. The first episode of the show was as tight,...

It seems like Coach Ted Lasso is staying in Kansas for Season 4 of the Emmy-winning fan-favorite hit Apple TV+ sports comedy Ted Lasso.Earlier this year, Jason Sudeikis, who plays the titular football-turned-soccer coach, confirmed that Ted Lasso would be coaching a women’s team when the show returns for a much-anticipated fourth season.
Per Kansas City TV news station FOX4, filming for Season 4 of Ted Lasso is expected to take place in the Kansas City metropolitan area in July. Some of the residents in the Kansas City areas of Blue Springs and Lee’s Summit received letters earlier this week letting them know that Ted Lasso would be filming in the area next month. The letter includes information to residents stating that Warner Bros. has filed for special use permits in both towns for filming.

It’s pilot season at ABC. The broadcast network, which has been leaning into its “second cycle” strategy involving off-cycle pilot orders targeting midseason, picked up its first 2025 pilot, Rj Decker, in May, with Scott Speedman recently cast as the lead. It may soon be joined by another crime drama pilot led by a TV star in his 40s-50s, The Rookie North.
The spinoff, from The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley, has been gaining momentum for a pilot order, which would come once the lead is cast. A handful of known actors have already been approached for the role, I hear.
The Rookie North is one of several projects in serious pilot consideration at ABC, along with the long-gestating Scrubs reboot, and two family comedies, the Rachel Bloom starrer Do You Want Kids?, which features a couple with and without a baby, and Mittens, which revolves around a neighborhood cat.

With 99 submissions, this year's Best Comedy Directing category at the Emmys will have six finalists when the nominations are announced July 15.
Similar to the drama category, the comedy directing ballot has a mix of shows that took different approaches to their entries. While some played it smart (see: Hacks and The Studio) submitting one memorable episode that will be a sure-thing to make the final field, others opted for three entries, with Shrinking going up to four. In those cases, overload and potential vote-splitting make it harder to discern which episode entry will make it into the lineup of six — technically five, since one spot is reserved for a multicamera show. (More on that below.)
As mentioned, Hacks and The Studio are essentially locks for this category because of their single options. The HBO Max series has been a consistent nominee — Lucia Aniello won for the first season in 2021 — and it submitted the penultimate episode,...

With 94 submissions, this year's Best Comedy Writing category at the Emmys will have six finalists when the nominations are announced July 15.
As expected, there are many single submissions from many of these front-runners, with no series entering more than two installments. But what may come as a surprise is the number of writers credited for scripting each episode — The Studio, for instance, has five writers for its entry. This, of course, does not matter in terms of voting, as writers are not listed on the ballot, but it’s an interesting side note to see how many scribes it takes to make people laugh.
This is a category that often defies conventional wisdom. Voters often gravitate towards shows that are less represented, such as last year when the branch nominated two canceled programs over others that were nominated for Best Comedy Series.
While there are often surprises here, this year the reigning champion,...

Scott Speedman will play the title role in ABC’s “Rj Decker” pilot, Variety has confirmed.
The one-hour drama pilot is based on Carl Hiaasen’s 1987 novel “Double Whammy.” The pilot order was originally announced in May.
The official logline for the series states:
“Rj Decker, disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con, starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida, tackling cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife, and a shadowy new benefactor, a woman from his past who could be his greatest ally… or his one-way ticket back to prison.”
The role keeps Speedman in business with ABC, as he has been recurring on the broadcaster’s hit medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” since that show’s 18th season after originally appearing in the 14th. Speedman’s other recent TV roles include the...

Shrinking Season 3: Apple TV+ Drops A Tease That’s Got Everyone Talking (Photo Credit – Apple TV+)
Shrinking just pulled the kind of surprise that gets fans refreshing timelines and overanalyzing every frame. As Season 3 wraps up filming, co-creator Bill Lawrence confirmed a return that no one had on their bingo card—Brett Goldstein’s Louis is officially back. And not in a blink-and-you-miss-it way. After dipping in during Season 2, Goldstein’s character is now positioned as a “major one” moving forward. Lawrence says the third season is all about growth across the board, not just for Jimmy. Louis isn’t just comic relief. He’s got something real brewing in his story arc. And if there’s one thing Shrinking does best, it’s digging into emotionally messy territory with charm.

So, we're getting a "Scrubs" revival. It's frustrating, because I'm a huge fan of Bill Lawrence's medical comedy that originally ran from 2001 to 2010 on NBC — and, for the last year of its existence in that form, ABC. Led by Zach Braff as Dr. John "J.D." Dorian, the show was funny, shockingly emotional, and surprisingly medically accurate, and its main cast of characters — Donald Faison's cocksure surgeon (and J.D.'s bestie) Dr. Chris Turk, Judy Reyes' tough but big-hearted nurse Carla Espinosa, Sarah Chalke's neurotic but brilliant Dr. Elliot Reid, and the stubborn and often enraged doctor who serves as J.D.'s unwilling mentor, Dr. Perry Cox, played by John C. McGinley — are uniformly excellent.
All of this sounds like it could add up to a promising reboot of the series, but I have my doubts, and it's because of Lawrence's recent comments on the forthcoming...

We just got the first hint about Bad Monkey season 2 will be about, and it won't be the storyline fans expect!
Premiering in 2024, Bad Monkey was an Apple TV+ adaptation of the wild comedic murder mystery by famed author Carl Hiaasen. It focused on Andrew Yance (Vince Vaughn), a Florida detective who's good at his job but has the bad habit of letting his arrogance and smart mouth overcome his reason. That has him busted down to a restaurant inspector, where his discovery of a severed arm in a kitchen leads him into a complex murder case involving con artists and a voodoo queen.
The show won over critics and audiences alike and earned a second-season renewal for Apple TV+. Production is set to begin, although notably, it moves from location in Florida to Los Angeles. Without too many spoilers, the first season ended with Yance solving the case but...

Shrinking Season 3 is shaping up to potentially be the best season yet for the hit Apple TV+ series. Bill Lawrence, who co-created Shrinking with Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein, recently shared new details about the upcoming third season.
Speaking with TVLine, Lawrence confirmed that Goldstein and Cobie Smulders would be returning for "multiple episodes" in Season 3 after being introduced in the previous season as Louis, the drunk driver responsible for the death of Jimmy’s wife, and Sofi, a potential love interest for Jimmy, respectively. The co-creator shared that the new season will show how Louis is moving forward in his own life following his confrontation with Jimmy in the Season 2 finale. "Forgiveness wasn’t just Jimmy’s story. It was Alice’s story, and Derek and Liz’s story, and Sean with his dad, and Gabby and her mom and sister, so this sense of moving forward exists for everybody,...

Only a day after the sophomore season of this Apple TV+ comedy hit, Shrinking, premiered, a third chapter was ordered, which began filming in mid-February of this year. Production has nearly wrapped, but unfortunately, no arrival date is set. Nevertheless, fans can expect their favorites to return to small screens soon, as co-creator Bill Lawrence recently shared details about Shrinking Season 3’s characters, both new and returning ones, including fellow creator Brett Goldstein's Louis.
Shrinking Season 3 will be centered on the characters’ moving forward, following previous runs focused on grief and forgiveness. As confirmed by Lawrence, Goldstein’s Louis will reappear in multiple episodes of the new chapter, showing him "moving forward" in his own life. The EP explained:
“Forgiveness wasn’t just Jimmy’s story. It was Alice’s [Lukita Maxwell] story, and Derek [Ted McGinley] and Liz’s [Christa Miller] story, and Sean [Luke Tennie] with his dad,...

Six months following a well-deserved renewal, this Vince Vaughn-starrer is finally giving fans some good news. Bad Monkey, from Apple TV+, ended its remarkable first run on October 9, 2024, and two months later, it was renewed for another run, but with no word on when it will return. Fortunately, thanks to the latest info from series executive producer Bill Lawrence highlighting when production begins, we now have an idea when to expect Season 2 of Bad Monkey.
TVLine caught up with Lawrence about the new season of his critics-approved dark comedy, which, according to him, will most likely commence filming this fall as writing is nearly complete. “They’re almost done in the writers’ room,” he shared. "We already had to shoot a scene from Season 2 [in Florida, since production is] moving to California, and that starts production in earnest towards the end of September."

Ted Lasso has become a cult classic on Apple TV+ all thanks to its brilliant writers and showrunner, who thought of the interesting script and decided to bring forward a story about love and healing, and growth that needed to be told.
One man who has contributed immensely to this process is Brett Goldstein. He not only plays a pivotal character on the show, but is also one of the key writers on it, making him fully involved in the creative process of the show. In a recent interview with Ted Danson on Team Coco, Goldstein talks about the magical phone call that changed the trajectory of his career.

Leighton Meester may have traded in her Upper East Side pearls for The Buccaneers’ English corsets, but the girl’s gossiping days are far from over.
Season 2 of the Apple TV+ drama premiered on Wednesday, picking up right where we left off: Nan’s wedding day. This all came at a personal cost to Nan: She had just professed her love to Guy, who is now M.

Bill Lawrence recently offered some insight into the upcoming Scrubsrevival series. According to the creator of the flagship show, real-life changes in the medical field have influenced the new series.
Speaking to TV Line, Lawrence touched on the series' divisive ninth season while confirming that the upcoming Scrubs revival is very much about the original leading duo of Jd and Turk. "I hate the narrative, like, 'Oh, the ninth year sucked.' No, it didn't," he said. "It's sour grapes, whatever, I'm so lucky to have done it. I didn't get to work on [that season] as much, but that writing staff did a great job."
Lawerence went on to praise the actors who joined the series in its ninth season. "I think Kerry Bishé, Michael Mosley, Eliza Coupe and Dave Franco have all gone on to have great careers because they were really good," he explained. "If it had been a...

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence has given a positive update on the planned revival show, following the divisive ninth and final season. Scrubs was considered one of the most inventive and off-beat sitcoms of the 2000s, and, after seemingly concluding with Scrubs season 8, the show was renewed for Scrubs season 9, which focused on a largely new cast, with star Zach Braff appearing as Jd in six episodes. But the revival show should seek to reclaim its identity, by focusing on the core cast once again.
Per TV Line, Lawrence comes out in defense of Scrubs season 9, which was widely panned by critics and audiences, insisting that he was lucky to have made it, and that those involved have gone on to have successful careers. He also opined that had the season been a spinoff, it would not have been judged as harshly, but that he understood why it wasn't. He concludes...

There’s some terrific news circulating out there for those living with high expectations and anticipation of the hopeful Scrubs reboot. According to TV Line, the project’s executive producer, Bill Lawrence, who created the original series, plans to focus the follow-up on everyone’s favorite hospital buddies — Zach Braff’s Jd and Donald Faison’s Turk. His comments come after addressing the ninth season of the series that started it all, which only included a handful of original cast members, introducing plenty of new faces to the medical team.
Speaking about the pushback all those involved with the show’s final season received and explaining how it informed their decisions when looking forward to the next installment, Lawrence said,

Though conversations around mental health and the portrayal of various ailments that affect the brain have really improved in pop culture in recent years, one topic has mostly still been the subject of either crass jokes or melodrama: any kind of dementia. Whether it's something sort of silly like Sophia (Estelle Getty) on "The Golden Girls" being forgetful and becoming extra blunt after a stroke, or heart-breakingly tragic like one lover forgetting another in the film "The Notebook," mentions of dementia tend to be inaccurate at best and genuinely harmful at worst. While a few films over the years have explored various forms of dementia with nuance, it's been especially rare on TV, until now.
It makes sense that the hit HBO Max series "The Pitt" would take its portrayal of characters with dementia seriously, as it has been praised for its incredible medical accuracy, but the Apple TV+ comedy...

After “Shrinking” star Jason Segel wrapped nine seasons of the multi-cam sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” in 2014, he decided he wanted to break out of his comedy mold. But Segel said he was met with resistance from the industry.

The 2009 sitcom "Cougar Town" was never a massive ratings hit; it was constantly on the verge of cancellation, with ABC pulling the cord after season 3 and TBS picking up and then pulling the cord again in season 6. The show starred Courteney Cox of "Friends" fame as main character Jules, but it never came anywhere close to being the cultural phenomenon that "Friends' was. Still, it was a fun watch that offered a lot of fun cameos for "Friends" fans to enjoy.
For instance, halfway through season 1 Lisa Kudrow shows up as Jules' mean dermatologist. In the season 2 premiere Jennifer Aniston stops by to play Jules' therapist, and this character isn't that nice either. Finally there came Matthew Perry in season 5, who asks Jules out on a date after she crashes into his car; the storyline was extra sweet considering Perry and Cox had played lovers on "Friends" for its final five seasons.

As therapist Jimmy Laird might tell one of his patients, "All good things come to those who wait."
Well, Shrinking has been waiting patiently ... for some major Emmy love. Apple TV+'s hit comedy series only received a pair of nominations for its first season in 2023: Best Comedy Actor for Jason Segel (as Jimmy) and Best Comedy Supporting Actress for Jessica Williams (as Gaby). That's right — even Hollywood heavyweight Harrison Ford (as Paul) was snubbed. But for Season 2, Gold Derby is predicting that Shrinking will be supersized at the 2025 Emmys.
Sometimes it takes a year for Television Academy members to discover a project, particularly in this era of Peak TV when there are so many shows vying for attention. Just look at historic examples like Will & Grace, Fleabag, and Succession — all were virtually ignored for their first at bats, but then exploded with noms and wins for their second cycles.

Shrinking stars Jason Segel and Jessica Williams tease that the dirtiest joke ever said on television is coming up in the new season. Shrinking follows Segel's Jimmy, a therapist who, after losing his wife, starts telling his patients his honest opinion. We’re now more than two years removed from the Ted Lasso Season 3 finale, and while it seemed at the time like this would be the final installment of the series, it’s since been announced that another season is in the works. Details about Ted Lasso Season 4, such as who will return or what the story will be, are few and far between at this time, but it looks like things are moving forward quicker than we expected. One of the few names confirmed to star in Season 4 is Brendan Hunt, who will reprise his role as Coach Board. Hunt recently caught up with Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of Elio, and he dropped a thrilling update when asked how things are going with Ted Lasso Season 4:
"I can't wait. I will wait, because I have to, but yeah, we're getting going on that. We start shooting pretty soon so.

The will-they-or-won’t-they relationship has been around long before sitcoms were even a thing, and though it can prove fruitful comedically, it also has its many pitfalls. If the characters don’t end up together, the audience isn’t satisfied (like The Wonder Years), but if they do end up together, the show loses a big avenue for comedy (like Frasier), and often a dramatic tension. As a result, many sitcoms try to drag out the will-they-or-won’t-they dynamic for as long as possible, which can end up being so tiresome that most viewers are ready for a won’t they.
Here are four shows that tried to keep their will-they-or-won’t-they relationships going way beyond their expiration date…
1 Ross and Rachel on ‘Friends’
Ross’ feelings for Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) are introduced in the very first episode of Friends, but they don’t get together until well into Season Two.

Bill Lawrence's "Shrinking" features an incredible band of actors, including their dream casting of Harrison Ford as the show's aging but sharp therapist, Dr. Paul Rhoades. In another time, however, Ford might have shared the screen with one of his co-stars much sooner in one of his most iconic films, if only the co-star in question hadn't been suffering from a rough morning due to the night before.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wendie Malick, who plays Paul's love interest on the show, Dr. Julie Baram, revealed that she once auditioned for a part in a then-upcoming adventure film being handled by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas called "Raiders of the Lost Ark." As Malick recalls, "I get this call: Steven Spielberg, who I don't think I knew who he was at that time, and this guy, George Lucas. They want you to come in to meet them.

Apple TV+ may have a “Dope Thief,” but its dope queen has been thriving for two seasons now. In “Shrinking,” Jessica Williams, who rose to fame with the podcast and eventual HBO comedy variety special “2 Dope Queens,” plays fan favorite Gaby Evans, a colleague of psychotherapists Paul (Harrison Ford) and Jimmy (Jason Segel). In Season 2, Gaby navigates romance with Derrick (a new guy played by Damon Wayans Jr.), family dysfunction and a whole lot of two-steps forward, one-step back Gaby-ness that viewers have come to love. TheWrap spoke with Williams about her process and deep care of comedic timing, and why Harrison Ford is the Goat.
