Anne Feeney, a key part of the folk music movement and a committed political and labor activist, died Wednesday in Pittsburgh, Pa. from complications of Covid-19. She was 69 and her daughter, Amy Sue Berlin, announced her passing on Facebook.

Ethan Hawke has just joined the cast of Blumhouse's The Black Phone. Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson is at the helm of the upcoming movie, which is based on Joe Hill's short story of the same name. Earlier this year, Netflix brought Joe Hill's Locke & Key graphic novels to the small screen, introducing viewers to the world of whimsy and horror surrounding Keyhouse. Joe's choice to keep his distance wasn't surprising, though it was disappointing.
Finding out that you're a Reagan might seem like a dream come true. The Reagans are a close family that always has each other's backs and manages to find time to laugh at themselves and each other despite their high-stress jobs.
But as Joe said, when you're a cop, it's different.

When Daily Dead took part in a Locke & Key roundtable call earlier this year, co-showrunner (along with Carlton Cuse) Meredith Averill said that they have "...stories for a few seasons to come percolating in our brains...", and it looks like that statement is becoming a reality, because not only was the show renewed for a second season back in March, it's now been renewed for a third season by Netflix before the second season has even premiered.
Multiple outlets are reporting the renewal news, including The Hollywood Reporter, along with the announcement that Meredith Averill has signed a deal with Netflix for "TV and other projects."

Locke & Key just got a big vote of confidence from Netflix: The streamer has renewed its comic book adaptation for Season 3, well ahead of its Season 2 premiere.
Production on the drama’s sophomore season is slated to wrap in December, with eyes on a 2021 premiere date. Season 3 production will get underway in the new year, as well.

That news comes as Meredith Averill, who is co-showrunner on the fantasy series with Carlton Cuse, has signed an overall deal with Netflix that will see her develop new projects for the streaming service.
The second season of “Locke & Key” is currently in production in Toronto, with filming expected to wrap this week and the plan is for Season 3 production to begin immediately in the new year. Netflix expects to launch “Locke & Key” Season 2 in 2021.

Following the news this past Halloween season that Scott Derrickson will direct an adaptation of Joe Hill's The Black Phone for Blumhouse and Universal (from a screenplay Derrickson co-wrote with C. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Jami O’Brien are attached to write the script and executive produce, with original series creator and showrunner Alan Ball also attached to executive produce. At this time, none of the show’s original cast is attached to return.

Almost since he became a best-selling author, Stephen King has seen his work adapted for the movies and television.
Just two years after his first novel, 1974’s Carrie, was published, a film version directed by Brian De Palma was a massive hit, earning Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. The floodgates opened after that, with a TV miniseries based on his second novel, ‘Salem’s Lot (1979), Stanley Kubrick’s high-profile film of The Shining (1980), Creepshow (1982), Cujo (1983), The Dead Zone (1983), Christine (1983), Children of the Corn (1984), Firestarter (1984), Silver Bullet (1985), and many more coming quickly during the next few years.
King adaptations continued well into the late 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, although the quality began to trail off and many were either quickie cash-ins, direct-to-video clunkers or both. There were high points, of course: Pet Sematary (1989), Misery (1990), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), the TV miniseries of The Stand (1994), Dolores Claiborne (1995), 1408 (2007), and The Mist (2007) are all standouts.

“Doctor Strange” filmmaker Scott Derrickson will direct the horror movie “Black Phone” for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.
Derrickson will also co-write the adapted screenplay with Robert Cargill. The duo teamed on the script for “Doctor Strange” and “Sinister.”
“Black Phone” is based on Joe Hill’s horror novella of the same name. The book revolves around a dead cinephile, a lonely kid, an eight-foot-tall locust and a man locked in a basement stained with the blood of murdered children. There’s also an old, disconnected telephone that rings at night with calls from the dead.

Director Scott Derrickson will adapt a Joe Hill short story called “The Black Phone” into a feature film for Blumhouse, according to Deadline. Derrickson is penning the screenplay with his regular writing partner, C. Robert Cargill, with whom he also wrote Sinister and Doctor Strange.
The story was initially published in Hill’s first book, a 2005 short story collection called 20th Century Ghosts that put the young author on the horror map before it was widely known that he was the son of Stephen King. The tale follows the plight of John Finney, a young boy kidnapped and held prisoner in the basement of a serial killer, who begins to communicate with his previous victims via a broken old phone.

Shudder has rounded out the Season 2 cast of its horror anthology series Creepshow. Set for the sophomore run are Marilyn Manson (Sons of Anarchy), Ali Larter (The Rookie), Iman Benson (BlackAF), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator), C. The 37 years between the release of Creepshow in 1982 and the debut of Shudder’s Creepshow TV series weren’t exactly kind to the franchise. 1987’s Creepshow 2 just couldn’t quite replicate the magic of its predecessor (despite its best intentions) and 2006’s Creepshow 3 was bad enough to raise the question: “What was it that made the original Creepshow so special?” What was that magical quality the 1982 classic found that’s proven to be so difficult to replicate? When you get down to it, what even defines a Creepshow story?
“Well, they have to be fun,” says Greg Nicotero, special effects legend, co-executive producer of The Walking Dead, and showrunner of Shudder’s Creepshow series. “My criteria is, when the episode is over, I want the viewer to be like, ‘Oh my God, that was so much fun. I didn’t expect that. I didn’t see it coming, but I had a great time.
