    With the Royal Army Service Corps during World War II. Evacuated from Dunkirk. After a year in hospital, invalided out in 1941. Worked for the BBC Drama Repertory Company from 1945. Until 1949, was best known as the voice of special agent Dick Barton on radio. Resigned after he was refused a pay rise. His other well-known incarnation was as the voice of comic strip character Dan Dare on Radio Luxembourg (1951-56).
