Jeethu Joseph originally wrote the script of Drishyam for another director. He decided to direct it himself, when the director asked him to change the script so that a younger actor could do the leading role.
During the shooting of the film Jeethu Joseph and his wife became worried on seeing the casual acting done by Mohanlal and even thought the film might not do well in theatres. But on seeing his acting on screen, both of them were equally shocked to see the impact his acting had done to Geogeutty's role.
Drishyam is the longest-running film in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with 125 days record run, breaking the previous record of Titanic (1997) (110 days). It is the only Indian film to cross 100 days run in the country.
Drishyam became the highest grossing Malayalam movie ever, surpassing Twenty20, before Pulimurugan broke that record in 2016.
