Based on "Yaiba", a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. Aoyama serialized the action adventure manga in Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine from 1988 to 1993. Shogakukan collected the chapters into 24 volumes from 1989 to 1994. Produced by Pastel, the 52-episode television anime aired from 1993 to 1994.
The character "Yaiba" is frequently referenced in Aoyama's Detective Conan series, and even appeared in the Conan vs. Kid vs. Yaiba - The Grand Battle for the Treasure Sword!! OVA in 2000.
The character Takeshi Onimaru makes a cameo in the 2024 film Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram as a fellow competitor in the student Tendo tournament that Soshi Okita recruits to assist them in the final confrontation with the arms dealers henchmen as he looked strong.
