Where is Cathy Terkanian Now? 'Into the Fire' Mom Is Still Fighting for Her Daughter
Image
Cathy Terkanian has been piecing together the details of her biological daughter’s life for more than a decade, but there are a number of questions she may never be able to answer. “I’m still deciphering all that madness,” she tells Tudum, before quickly correcting herself. “There is no deciphering — yeah, there is none. I’m the only thing that brought sanity to this.”

Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter, a new two-part documentary, recounts Terkanian’s years-long search for Aundria Bowman, née Alexis Badger — who went missing in 1989 — and the harrowing revelations that culminated in her belief that Alexis had been murdered by her adoptive father. Though Alexis’ killer has been brought to justice, having pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and been sentenced to 35–50 years, Terkanian is still working hard to do right by her daughter.

“I think a lot of this drive came from her...

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Charlize Theron, who was an executive producer on the series, gave an honest update on how likely that continuation is.

When asked about the possibility of three feature films, Theron replied, "I think you know just as well as I do that it’s really in the world of David [Fincher]."

Mindhunter's 3-Movie Future Plan Gets An Honest Update From Executive Producer Charlize Theron
Image
Charlize Theron, the Oscar-winning actress who was also an executive producer on Netflix's acclaimed crime drama series Mindhunter, has broken her silence on the rumored plans for a movie trilogy set in the story universe.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Theron revealed all she knows about the potential revival of Mindhunter in the form of three feature films at Netflix. She reiterated how everything that has to do with Mindhunter comes from the mind of one man, the legendary director and producer David Fincher.

You were an EP on Mindhunter, and there was recent talk that it might be revived in the form of three feature films. Should we temper our expectations at this current juncture?

Theron: I think you know just as well as I do that it’s really in the world of David. It’s up to him, and if he wraps his head around it,...

True-Crime Makes A Strong Case In Netflix Data Dump; ‘The Menendez Brothers’ Leads List
Image
Netflix has been digging heavily into true-crime over the last few years and it’s seemingly paying off.

In the streamer’s latest data dump – its What We Watched engagement report – there are a slew of true-crime series including American Murder: Laci Peterson, Worst Ex Ever, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey and This Is the Zodiac Speaking entering its top ten with The Menendez Brothers doc leading the list.

The Menendez Brothers, the Alejandro Hartmann-directed doc, premiered after Ryan Murphy’s buzzy Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story series and scored 39.2M views.

American Murder: Laci Peterson topped the series list with 37.4M views. That series, which told the story of the murder of the American woman murdered by her husband while she was eight months pregnant. It is part of Netflix’s American Murder strand, which was just responsible for the Gabby Petito three-series that launched this month.

Netflix Releases List of Most Watched Movies and Series of Second Half of 2024
Image
Pictures: Netflix

For data nerds – it’s our favorite time of the year – the second half of 2024 viewing data has just been released! We’ve got a lot more to come, but what are the most-watched movies and series of the second half of the year? Let’s dive straight in.

What are the key points that Netflix has cited as being the most important for this data drop? Netflix reiterated that Engagement (time spent watching) is the best metric to gauge member satisfaction and that this data drop covers ~99% of all video watch time on Netflix and that no single title accounts for more than 1% of total Netflix viewing.

Squid Game S2 had the most hours viewed (0.7% of total viewing), and their total watch time for this period of July to December 2024 was 94B hours (5% increase YoY). Their most-viewed series was Squid Game S2 (87M views) despite premiering only 6 days before year-end.

Netflix Viewing Up 5% in Second Half of 2024, ‘Squid Game 2’ Leads as Most-Watched TV Series
Image
Netflix subscribers streamed more content than ever in the back half of 2024 — and the second season of Korean hit drama “Squid Game” was the biggest TV show on the service.

The streamer’s customers watched more than 94 billion hours on Netflix in the second half of last year, a 5% increase year over year, according to its latest Engagement Report sharing data on what people watched on from July-December 2024.

“Squid Game” Season 2, despite premiering on Dec. 26 with only six days left in the year, dominated the period as Netflix’s most-viewed series with nearly 87 million views. That said, no single title accounts for more than 1% of total viewing on Netflix. For example, “Squid Game 2” represented only 0.7% of global viewing for the time period. That’s “why we invest in a wide variety of quality shows and films and why we need to make them great, so that every time a member...

You Probably Missed This Eye-Opening Documentary on Netflix – Fix That!
Image
With releases about the death of Laci Peterson, the Zodiac Killer, and the heartbreaking rollercoaster that was Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter, 2024 saw Netflix debut some of the streamer's most disturbing documentaries in recent memory, but one of the year's earliest projects is an underrated achievement that still remains relevant today. The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping is a difficult-to-watch, three-part docuseries that garnered significant popularity when it first premiered on March 5 of last year, though a lack of critical attention made the title's success short-lived and subsequently easy to miss for future viewers.

Prime Video's 'In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery' Is Bone Chilling
Image
In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery is Prime Video's short (but definitely not sweet) true-crime documentary that dives into the murky depths of Laura Letts-Beckett's suspicious drowning in 2010. Director Trish Neufeld, known for her darkly comedic and personal documentary Dancing with Mom, objectively investigates the claims and conviction of Laura's husband Peter, who was charged with her murder.

Through interviews with Peter, Laura's family and friends, testifying witnesses, and law enforcement involved with the case, audiences come to question what really happened. Is Peter telling the truth about Laura's death being a tragic accident? Or is the prosecution uncovering a callous man's plot to kill his wife? Inconsistencies in Peter's story, evidence of his more sinister side, and a theory that the legal system unjustly arrested him for a crime that never happened at all make this series a chilling watch, no matter who you believe.

Where Dennis Bowman Is Today After Into The Fire: The Lost Daughter
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Into The Fire: The Lost Daughter

This article contains discussion of sexual violence and assault.

Netflix's mesmerizing true-crime documentary Into The Fire: The Lost Daughter explores the horrifying case of Aundria Bowman, yet doesn't dwell on what happened to her murderer and adopted father Dennis after the case's resolution. In 1974, 16-year-old Cathy gave up her daughter Alexis for adoption and went about her life. Many years later, she decided to try to reconnect and found that Alexis, who had been adopted by Dennis Bowman and his wife Brenda and renamed Aundria, had run away from their home, and was listed as missing. That revelation prompted Cathy's journey to discover the truth about Aundria's disappearance.

Cathy enlisted help from amateur sleuths, her own family, and even the Bowman's relatives to embarrass law enforcement and ultimately reveal that Dennis Bowman had not only killed her daughter...

‘The Penguin’ Premiere Rules the Streaming Roost With More Viewers Than ‘House of the Dragon’ | Chart
Image
Since July, the most-watched streaming program on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report has fallen into one of two buckets. Either it’s been a big-budget Max series built around popular IP or it’s been a Netflix release.

This week, the former reigns supreme as “The Penguin,” a spin-off from the 2022 film “The Batman,” sits atop the chart for the week of Sept. 16 to 22. The series’ first episode drew 3.2 million households over the first four days it was available on Max.

That’s even better viewership than Max’s last big hit this year, “House of the Dragon.” The first episode of the Game of Thrones spin-off drew 2.8 million households in its first four days, and it topped the streaming chart for the entirety of its second season run (and then some). It remains to be seen if “The Penguin” will be the new emperor, or if it will cede its crown next week.

8 Biggest Details Into The Fire Left Out About The Aundria Bowman Case
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers For Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter

This article contains discussion of sexual violence

Although the Netflix documentary Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter does an excellent job of recalling the unsettling tale of Aundria Bowman, it still leaves out some key information. The case exposes the dark side of a seemingly normal family and the disastrous effects of neglected abuse, from the alarming confessions of Aundria's adoptive father, Dennis Bowman, to the role of her adoptive mother, Brenda Bowman, to her birth mother's unwavering quest for justice.

However, even with so much fascinating content, there is much more to learn about this case. By looking into the eight critical areas that weren't completely covered in the documentary, the story of Aundria's disappearance, the delayed investigation that followed, and the ultimate discovery of her terrible fate becomes more comprehensible. Zoë Kravitz’s ‘Blink Twice’ #1 on PVOD After Only Reaching #4 in Theaters
Image
“Blink Twice” (Amazon MGM), actress Zoë Kravitz’s feature directorial debut with Channing Tatum as a tech billionaire who invites a cocktail waitress to his private island, was a modest performer in theaters last month. Its opening weekend only reached #4 at the box office, earning $7 million, with the full run amounting to $22 million.

Flash forward a few weeks, and it is #1 for its debut week in PVOD. It jumped to the top even as three other new releases (all weaker performers) also made at least one of the two top 10 lists below.

Netflix continues to find appeal for its recent originals, with four films in its top five. These though were trumped by “The Garfield Movie,” the latest Sony release to transition to the streamer four months after release. Into The Fire's Brenda Bowman Today: What Happened To Aundria Bowman's Adoptive Mother
Image
There have been many questions concerning the people involved in the murder case of Aundria M. Bowman discussed in Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter. One such key person of interest is Brenda Bowman, the adoptive mother of Aundria and wife of Dennis Bowman, the person convicted of Aundria's murder. Although Brenda hasnt been accused of being connected to the Aundria Bowman murder case, in the documentary, shes reluctant to say anything against her husband or to even hear anything incriminating against him.

In the initial investigation, she refuses to believe Dennis is capable of hurting Aundria. Yet, when asked about his previous rape cases, she says I havent forgotten what he did, but I have forgivenI take my marriage vows seriously. By focusing on such moments, Into the Fire delves into more than just tragic disappearances, it dives deep into complex family relationships that cross any lengths to protect each other.

What Happened To Into The Fire's Vanessa Bowman, Aundria's Sister?
Image
In the Netflix documentary, Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter, many serious real-life dilemmas come into play. From a young mother, Cathys, grief about giving her child away to her child, Aundrias, mistreatment and abuse by her adoptive parents, the series serves as a beacon of hope for many victims whose cases have gone cold. Through the detailed investigation into Aundria Bowmans murder case, other rape victims of Dennis, the person convicted for killing Aundria, are able to be uncovered.

The documentary sheds a lot of light on the need for resolving small-town cases that often get overlooked. Justice for Aundria and Kathleen, Dennis murder victims, has been achieved. However, for other innocent bystanders, like Aundrias little sister, Vanessa, who was sheltered from the truth until much later, it has become a heavy burden to keep over ones shoulder forever.

Jake Gyllenhaal's $552M Sci-Fi Disaster Movie Becomes Netflix Global Hit 20 Years Later
Image
The Day After Tomorrow has found success on Netflix's global top 10 chart after 20 years. Hitting theaters in 2004, director Roland Emmerich's The Day After Tomorrow chronicles the onset of a devastating new planetary Ice Age with a story that follows paleoclimatologist Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) as he treks from Washington D.C. to New York City to rescue his stranded son, Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal). The film, which also stars Emmy Rossum, Ian Holm, Sela Ward, and Arjay Smith, was a box office hit, grossing $552.6 million worldwide.

Now, two decades later, new data from Netflix reveals that The Day After Tomorrow ranks as the sixth most popular movie on the streamer globally for the week of September 9 15. The film pulled in an impressive 11.6 million hours viewed and 5.6 million views in total. Though The Day After Tomorrow falls short of titles like Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019), The Deliverance...

Johnny Depp's Forgotten 2015 Crime Drama Is Getting A Second Life On Netflix
Image
Scott Cooper hit a home run in his first filmmaking at bat with "Crazy Heart," a melancholy drama about an alcoholic country music singer (Jeff Bridges) who's wrecked his life many times over and is about to crash for the last time despite entering into an unexpectedly healthy relationship with a journalist (Maggie Gyllenhaal). The film earned Bridges his first, long overdue Oscar for Best Actor, and though the film itself was a touch formulaic, Cooper's direction of his first-rate cast gave him a reputation as an actor-friendly filmmaker.

Cooper's follow-up was the moody-as-hell crime yarn "Out of the Furnace," which, even with another spectacular cast, failed to connect with critics. Cooper's sophomore effort missed commercially as well, but he was due another shot with "Crazy Heart" not too far off in the rearview, so he took on the gangster flick "Black Mass." Starring Johnny Depp (sporting a bald cap...

Lionsgate Has Something to ‘Crow’ About — It’s #1 on PVOD; McG’s ‘Uglies’ Leads Netflix
Image
Lionsgate has seen a run of bad box office luck: “Borderlands,” “The Crow,” “1992,” and the just-opened “The Killer’s Game” combined have only grossed $30 million among four new films opened in the past six weeks.

“Uglies” continues the recent string of Netflix original movie successes. From director McG, the YA novel adaptation about a society where standardized personal attractiveness is compulsory was an immediate #1 this weekend on the streamer’s top movie list.

In its Sunday spin on first weekend results, Lionsgate often says that, despite weak numbers, the company is in a position to end up making money — and due to financial positioning and post-theatrical platforms.

With “The Crow” debuting on PVOD last Friday, they may have an argument.

Despite only being out for three days, the reboot of the 1994 Brandon Lee-launched film series is #1 on Fandango’s top 10 VOD chart (which covers a full week). The at-home viewing platform calculates by revenue,...

Into The Fire: The Lost Daughter True Story - What Really Happened To Aundria Bowman?
Image
Warning: This article contains mentions of sexual assault and murder.

Netflix's latest true crime show, Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter, tells the true story of Cathy Terkanian's search for the daughter she gave up for adoption, Aundria Bowman, who went missing in March 1989. In 2010, Cathy Terkanian received a letter from the adoption agency requesting Terkanian's DNA to see if she would match an identified dead body because her daughter had been missing since 1989. The letter Terkanian received ignited a 10-year search to find out what happened. Cathy Terkanian learned that her daughter's name was Aundria, and a young couple, Brenda and Dennis Bowman, had adopted her.

Authorities had presumed Aundria Bowman had run away, but Cathy Terkanian became determined to learn the circumstances of Aundria Bowman's disappearance and figure out what happened to her daughter. Cathy Terkanian embarked on a 10-year journey to discover how Aundria Bowman...

Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter Review – A Mother’s Love Transcends Tragedy
Image
Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter delves into one mother’s unwavering determination to uncover what happened to her daughter. The two-part Netflix documentary, directed by Ryan White, follows Cathy Terkanian on her nearly 15-year-long search for answers surrounding the 1989 disappearance of her birth daughter, Aundria Bowman.

Cathy placed Aundria for adoption as a young teenager but always regretted that decision. Years later, when she learned Aundria had gone missing at age 14, her quest began to find the truth.

Through Cathy’s incredibly moving story, viewers experience the emotional highs and lows of her investigation alongside local authorities and an amateur sleuth. Piece by piece, they uncover layer upon layer of secrecy and deception regarding Aundria’s adoptive family.

But it’s Cathy’s persistence fueled by a mother’s love that remains the documentary’s beating heart. Though the realities uncovered grow increasingly unsettling, Cathy never stops fighting for...

Brenda Bowman In ‘Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter’: Why Did She Keep Supporting Dennis?
Image
The end credits of Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter revealed that Brenda Engweiler refused to be a part of the Netflix documentary and declined their request for an interview. That’s what compelled the makers to rely on Brenda’s recorded conversation and footage with the police department to tell “her” side of the story, though a lot was missing. After finishing the documentary, I myself failed to understand why an educated housewife like Brenda was protecting her vicious husband till the very end. You see, all the gruesome and violent crimes Dennis Bowman had committed in his entire lifetime were out in the open, and he had even confessed to killing their adoptive daughter Aundria, then why was Brenda still in denial? Maybe it was years of grooming and manipulation that clouded her mind. Even when he was confessing to Aundria’s murder, he wanted Brenda to be present,...

What Happened to Aundria Bowman? 'Into the Fire' Follows a Mother’s Tireless Quest for Truth
Image
In April 2010, Cathy Terkanian received a letter that would change her life forever. It was written by a social worker, who explained that the daughter Terkanian had given up for adoption 35 years prior had disappeared from her adoptive home in 1989. Driven by a need for answers, Terkanian enlisted the help of an amateur sleuth and local authorities and embarked on a 10-year quest to uncover what happened to her child.

Into the Fire: The Lost Daughterchronicles that quest, diving into the shadowy depths of a chilling true-crime story that feels almost impossible to believe. At the center of this labyrinthine tale, however, is the unbreakable bond between mother and child — and the power of maternal instinct across space and time.

Directed and produced by Ryan White, Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter is also produced by Jessica Hargrave, Matt Maher,...

‘Into The Fire’ Explained: Where Is Dennis Bowman Now? Why Did He Kill Aundria And Kathleen Doyle?
Image
Netflix’s Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter is a horrifying tale of a man-shaped monster who not only sexually assaulted multiple women in the 80s but also killed at least two of them to hide his crimes. And while the entire case in itself was pretty disturbing, the thing that you cannot shake off from your mind after finishing the documentary is that this man, Dennis Lee Bowman, lived as a free man for his entire life due to the incompetence of the law enforcement authorities. Dennis’ crimes came to light only after a mother, Cathryn “Cathy” Terkanian, made it her life’s mission to find out the truth about her missing daughter and her adoptive parents, Brenda and Dennis Bowman. Cathy was lucky enough to find the right people on her journey who helped gather evidence against Dennis and shove it in the “officer’s” face so they...
