The The Signal cast is chock-full of unique international talent. The show, which is called Das Signal in the original German, is a limited series that premiered on Netflix in March 2024. While it has a small core cast, the science fiction drama features quite a few interlocking characters in a story that takes place across multiple timelines.

Any WW2 action adventure involving the Norwegian resistance is Ok in my book, and this big-star saga about sabotage efforts to stop the Nazis’ atom research is a natural — much of what happens in the story is true. The show can boast marvelous locations and excellent action scenes but the script and characters aren’t very strong. Did Columbia curb epic director Anthony Mann’s greater ambitions, or did star Kirk Douglas interfere to enhance his leading character into a combo scientist, playboy and sure-shot action man? Also starring Ulla Jacobsson, Richard Harris, Michael Redgrave, and every over-fifty English name actor not nailed down.

High-profile Norwegian movie, theatre and TV helmer Per-Olav Sørensen has turned into one of Netflix’s hottest Nordic collaborators and show-runners since 2019. After the hit Swedish thriller series “Quicksand,” Norwegian dramedy “Home for Christmas” 1 & 2, Sørensen is currently filming Yellow Bird U.K.’s untitled “Spotify” series for the U.S. streamer.

In between drama series, Sørensen has steered the filming of the Netflix Original Norwegian pic “Royalteen,” co-helmed by rising talent Emile Beck. Toplining the modern Cinderella narrative are Matthias Storhøi, Ines Høysæter Asserson (“Skam”), Elli Müller Osborne (“Utøya: July 22”), and Veslemø Mørkrid (“Occupied”).

Based on the YA novel “The Heir,” written as a book series by journalists Randi Fuglehaug and Anne Gunn Halvorsen, “Royalteen” also marks the first production made under new label Global Ensemble Drama, founded by Sørensen.

Sf Studios is joining forces with prolific Norwegian filmmaker Henrik M. Dahlsbakken and the banner FilmBros on “Possession,” a horror film set during the Spanish flu in 1918.

The film, which portrays the terrifying events following a pastor’s actions in a small Sami village, is being handled by REinvent International Sales and will be distributed in the Nordics by Sf Studios.

More4 has acquired the rights to air Norwegian series Heavy Water War.

The drama - known in Norway as Kampen om tungtvannet - tells the true story of how Norwegian saboteurs destroyed Nazi Germany's hopes of developing an atom bomb during the Second World War.

The series covers key events in the 1930s and 1940s, which saw the Nazis come close to developing a nuclear weapon to use on their enemies.

Espen Kloumann Høiner, Dennis Storhøi and Christoph Bach lead the cast, with Anna Friel starring in a supporting role.

The opening episodes of Heavy Water War were seen by more than 1.2 million Norwegians when they premiered on Nrk in January.

Heavy Water War will air on More4 later this year.
