Cinderella's Castle

Despite being a largely original take on the Cinderella story, this musical does seem to take (indirect) inspiration from the Grimm Brothers' version of the tale:

In the first act, Ella reveals to the Griswold sisters that when she was a small girl, the villagers discovered Lady Ashmore worshiping under an oak tree. They mistook her faith for witchcraft and sentenced her to death. Later, after the Stepmother murders the Griswold girls, Ella buries their remains under the same oak tree. In a roundabout way, their premature death summons the Fairy Queen of Sweet Dreams, who aids Ella in attending the ball. In the Grimm Brothers' version of "Cinderella", Cinderella's biological mother is buried under a tree, which her spirit inhabits. When Cinderella wishes to attend the ball, her mother's spirit grants her wish by having birds provide her with the necessary gown and slippers.

In the second act, the Stepmother discovers Ella is the mystery woman who lost her shoe at the ball. She has her daughters restrain Ella while she saws off her (Ella's) feet. The Stepmother then uses dark magic to sew Ella's feet onto her daughter Putrice's skin suit. This is so Putrice can fit into the glass slippers and trick the Prince into marrying her. In the Grimms' story, the Stepmother forces her daughters to cut off parts of their feet for the same reason. However, their deception is exposed when Cinderella's bird friends point out the blood to the Prince.
