The three directors of this documentary first encountered Swamp Dogg, whose real name is Jerry Williams, through musical collaboration. Ryan Olson had produced Williams' 2018 album, "Love, Loss & Autotune". Isaac Gale directed the music video for Williams' song "I'll Pretend", and David McMurry served as the cinematographer for that music video.
