Good news for those who miss seeing him on their screens since NCIS: Hawai'i's cancellation: it's been announced that Noah Mills will be joining the cast of Watson season 2 in a recurring guest star role. Deadline first reported the news. Mills will reportedly play disgraced Silicon Valley tech wunderkind Beck Wythe, who returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh after destroying his career with out-of-control, reckless behavior.
Mills' character will be integral to the story of Eve Harlow's Ingrid Derian in Watson season 2. After Wythe moves back to Pittsburgh, he meets Ingrid in a therapy group for those who manage Cluster B personality disorders, and they quickly bond. However, whether it will be the spark each needs to rebuild their lives after blowing them up or another unhealthy and destructive obsession isn't clear.

Long before James Bond, literary icon Sherlock Holmes was a character who has been played by a variety of different actors across decades. Now, the detective has his newest face, with an acclaimed actor chosen to take on the iconic role in CBS and Paramount+’s modern-day reboot.
The CBS series Watson is a modern retelling of the famous detective, putting a twist on the works of Arthur Conan Doyle and focusing on Dr. John Watson (played by Morris Chestnut) rather than Holmes himself. If you’ve been following along with some of our Watson coverage, you’d know that the series didn’t always resonate with many of our writers at TV Fanatic.
Of course, Joshua Pleming raved about it and made his case for why this series was a sleeper hit.
CBS certainly recognized the value in it when it secured a sophomore season that was surprisingly long and more than expected for diehard Watson Fanatics.

But now, it seems that CBS is intent on proving just why this series is a massive hit because according to Deadline, our dear Sherlock Holmes will be featured in the sophomore season, and the iconic Once Upon a Time alum, Robert Carlyle, will be playing him.

It seems like the other networks will have to do all that they can to win over viewers because CBS's fall schedule is loaded. From new shows, returning favorites, and good ol' football, leaving your television on the channel might be the smartest thing to do. One of the new shows that viewers were excited to watch is the FBI spin-off, CIA, which was ordered straight to series in April. The one-hour crime drama, which will starTom Ellis, won't be ready for its original fall launch, but it's still happening. What will take its place instead? According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Morris Chestnut-led Watson, a medical drama with detective elements, will take the fall premiere spot.
Watson, which is heading into its second season after a successful debut, was scheduled for a mid-season start, but with CIA not being ready, it was the perfect show to fill that void.

After its first season was a hit, Watson season 2 just received an exciting update. Just a few months after it was announced that Watson season 2 would be a January 2026 midseason premiere, CBS has reversed course. Per Deadline, CBS has now decided to move Watson season 2 to a fall 2025 slot.
The sophomore season's move was revealed alongside the news that the Tom Ellis-led FBI spinoff CIA is now being pushed back to midseason. With a crowded CBS fall lineup, it now takes the place initially meant for CIA, where it will air Mondays in the 10/9c slot directly after FBI. Watson season 2 will premiere with the other Monday night shows on October 13.

It seems fans are going to have to wait longer than anticipated for FBI’s newest spinoff to arrive.
While the plan was originally for the new CIA spinoff to debut in the fall following new episodes of FBI, CBS will be down to just one FBI franchise show in the fall. This is because CIA is being pulled from the fall lineup and is on the move to midseason, meaning the Tom Ellis-led spinoff will not premiere until 2026.
As first reported by Deadline, part of this sudden and unexpected change comes from CIA undergoing a showrunner change with veteran Wolf Entertainment creative Warren Leight, who served as a showrunner on Law & Order: Svu for several years, taking over as the spinoff’s new showrunner. Leight will succeed David Hudgins, who was originally tapped to oversee the show following his time as showrunner of FBI: Most Wanted.

While other networks are still finding their footing after the strike, CBS is stepping into fall with something increasingly rare: a scripted slate that actually resembles a normal broadcast season.
Anchoring its schedule with 16 returning series and four new ones, CBS is leaning into procedural comfort food and fresh intrigue.
Friday nights get a serious shakeup with Sheriff Country, led by Morena Baccarin, and Boston Blue, starring Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green. Both shows are poised to bring new energy to familiar beats.

And while the FBI universe was expected to expand with CIA this fall, the Tom Ellis-led spinoff has been pushed to midseason following a behind-the-scenes creative reset.
The show’s new showrunner hasn’t just delayed production — it may reshape the premise entirely, which is still a work in progress as casting remains underway.

Bad news for anyone who had been eagerly anticipating the premiere of the FBI spinoff CIA this fall. Deadline reports that the Tom Ellis-led spinoff has had its premiere bumped back and will now get a midseason debut. The FBI CIA-basedspinoff got a straight-to-series order earlier this spring. Now, however, CBS is pushing it back as it is undergoing a change in showrunners.
CIA's original showrunner, David Hudgins, who had previous experience running FBI: Most Wanted, had originally been set to lead the show and co-write the pilot script with network procedural legend Dick Wolf. However, he is now exiting the troubled series and is to be replaced by Warren Leight, another Dick Wolf universe veteran whose previous experience comes from the long-running Law & Order: Svu.

There had previously been signs that CIA was in some developmental trouble.

CBS has made some changes to its fall schedule as it announces its new season roll-out plans. New “FBI” spinoff “CIA,” which had been slated to premiere in the fall, will now be held back for midseason as it undergoes some tinkering.
The show, from Dick Wolf, has switched showrunners: Warren Leight (“Law & Order: Svu”) will take over from David Hudgins, and has been given additional time to adjust before going into production. Tom Ellis stars in “CIA,” and the writers room is now up on the show — with casting set to begin soon and production now expected to start in the fall.
With “CIA” pushed back, CBS will now move up Season 2 of “Watson,” originally slated for midseason, to fall instead.
Beyond that, CBS has opted to launch most of its fall sked in October, aiming to take advantage of September events. Much of its lineup is set...

CBS is making a change to its fall schedule.

Good news, Sherlock Holmes fans! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's trusty assistant will be returning to the airwaves a bit sooner than expected. Although the Morris Chestnut-led Watson was originally planned to return sometime during midseason, Deadline reports that the medical drama's sophomore outing has been moved by CBS to the fall. This will now put the series on a typical broadcast schedule, though it's a mystery when it will premiere. The news coincided with a delay to the Tom Ellis-led FBI spin-off CIA, meaning it could potentially occupy the Monday 10 p.m. time slot, or move to another spot in a scheduling change once the network announces its fall premiere dates.
Watson's return to the fall schedule is quite the twist, considering CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach had personally commented about its absence. Back in May, the series was in an awkward spot with a crowded lineup ahead...

CBS Moves 'CIA' TV Show To Mid-Season Amid Showrunner Change, 'Watson' Will Air in Fall 2025 Instead
CBS has made changes to its 2025-26 television schedule.
The upcoming FBI spinoff series CIA is moving to the mid-season, likely with a 2026 release, instead of airing this fall.

CBS is shaking up its fall schedule as the network pushes upcoming “FBI” spinoff series “CIA” to a midseason debut.
“CIA,” which stars Tom Ellis and was slated for a fall premire, will debut midseason, with sophomore series “Watson,” which was slotted for a midseason premiere, filling the fall time slot, the network revealed Friday.
The decision to push “CIA” to midseason was made to give the new show, part of the “FBI” franchise, additional time to ensure its success, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap. As part of that process, Warren Leight (“Law & Order: Svu”) has replaced David Hudgins as its showrunner.

Morris Chestnut's medical mystery series, Watson, set in the world of Sherlock Holmes, clearly has a lot of potential. The medical drama has been renewed for a second season, after a fairly successful first season. Season 1 of Watson ended with the villain Moriarty dead. The series was creative with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s canon, relying on Chestnut's Watson, close confidant of a yet-to-be-seen and believed-to-be-dead Sherlock Holmes. Randall Park plays the villain Moriarty, and with him out of the way now, could that be the last of the character we see?
Television has made it possible that characters are never quite dead. Except it's in Westeros, of course. Watsonseason 2 could still see the return of a major character, despite their death. Hailing from Elementary executive producer Craig Sweeny, with Morris Chestnut leading as the titular John Watson, the medical drama sees the traditional supporting character step into the spotlight after the apparent death of Sherlock Holmes.
Watson season 2 won't return until January 2026, but the CBS show did tie up a major thread in its first finale. The villainous Moriarty (Randall Park) is defeated by Watson, who makes the choice to kill his adversary. That doesn't mean that Moriarty is gone forever, though.

Sweeny went on to discuss Park's role in the series, how it was specifically built to tie back into the overarching story of Watson Season 1, and how being unable to save the villain from a lethal dose of poison in the season finale has impacted Morris Chestnut's titular doctor. "I believe that Watson really approached that from a perspective of doing the least harm and even though...

The Netflix medical drama "Pulse" seemed poised for success when it was first announced. Who wouldn't want to watch Willa Fitzgerald (of "Reacher" and "The Fall of the House of Usher" fame) try to survive her job at a Florida trauma center? Yes, the format of the show seemed a little similar to previous hit series like "Grey's Anatomy" and "ER," but by early 2025, both of those shows were firmly out of the limelight. As such, "Pulse" appeared to be filling a new hole in the TV landscape; the apparent logic over at Netflix was that it had a surefire hit on its hands, just so long as no other streaming service released its own hard-hitting medical drama around the same time.
Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened. In January 2025, three months before "Pulse" dropped, HBO Max released the first episode of "The Pitt." The show quickly took off, garnering mass...

Pulse was Netflix's best shot at competing with HBO's The Pitt, but the streaming service has officially pulled the plug after just one season. Pulse starred Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, and came from creator Zoe Robyn. The medical procedural drama premiered its first season on Netflix on April 3rd, 2025, three months after The Pitt's massive premiere on Max.
According to Deadline, Netflix has officially canceled Pulse following the low performance of its first season. This cancellation reportedly happened quietly in June, when the cast and showrunner were notified by Netflix that Pulse wouldn't continue into a sophomore season. Now, the cancellation of the medical drama, along with that of The Residence, has been made public.
What Pulse's Cancelation Means For Netflix The Medical Drama Couldn't Hold Up To The Competition
The success of series like The Pitt proves that medical procedural dramas continue to have great potential.

Netflix can add two more titles to the ever-growing pile of shows canceled by the streamer after just one season. On Wednesday, it was reported that multiple shows had just been given the boot after debuting closely together earlier this year.
Per Deadline, Netflix has canceled both Pulse and The Residence. Pulse debuted on April 3, shortly after the debut of The Residence on March 20. What's more is that another new series, No Good Deed, has been paused indefinitely. In the case of that series, which debuted last December, there is still a "theoretical possibility" that a second season could still happen one day with a new cast, but there are no plans for that at this time.
Reportedly, Pulse was quietly canceled over a month ago, but its fate has just now been revealed publicly. The show's cast and creatives were already notified at that time so they could begin pursuing new jobs.

Exclusive: Over the last seven months, there has been a string of new scripted series launching on Netflix that have been renewed: Man on the Inside, Running Point, The Four Seasons, Beauty in Black, Forever, North of North and most recently Ransom Canyon and Canadian entry Bet. And then there have been a handful of freshmen with wobbly ratings performance that have been stuck in limbo for months: No Good Deed, which premiered December 12, The Residence (March 20) and Pulse (April 3).
The Residence and Pulse have been canceled, Deadline can reveal. There are no current plans for a second season of No Good Deed, but there is a theoretical possibility for the dark comedy anthology to come back in the future with a new installment — and a new cast — sources said.
The slew of Netflix scripted series renewals so far this year also include Bridgerton (for Seasons 5-6), The Diplomat (S...
