The Mouse That Roared

"The Mouse That Roared" was originally a very cute Peter Sellers film where Sellers played multiple roles. The story began in the fictional Duchy of Grand Fenwick and when the country realized it was broke, they decided to declare war on the USA. Why? They reasoned that like after WWII, the USA would pump in lots of money into the microscopic nation...just like they did with Japan and Germany.

For some reason, nearly a decade later, someone had the idea of making "The Mouse That Roared" a weekly TV series with Sid Caesar playing the Peter Sellers roles. But in this case, no war with America occurred but instead the broke nation scrambled for a national product to replace their putrid wine...and complications arose.

Again, if you've never seen the movie you might like the show. But apparently no one at the network thought it was worth the risk and they never okayed this as a weekly series. Not terrible but a sad shadow of the original film. And, try as he might, Caesar wasn't up to replacing Sellers in this kind of program.
