Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Here’s What’s New on Amazon Prime Video in March 2023
Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Amazon Prime Video has popped off with plenty of new content for March 2023 with original shows and some great catches for films to stream. “Top Gun: Maverick” will arrive March 24, and Jordan Peele’s “Nope” before that on March 21. For those anticipating “Creed III,” the first two films starring and directed by Michael B. Jordan will become available at the beginning of March along with all of the “Rocky” films as well as “Cinderella Man” for the broader boxing buff community. A theatrical release from 2022, “The Silent Twins,” starring Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrence arrives March 7.

Friday March 3 will see “Daisy Jones & The Six” rock the world when the band’s epic limited series comes out. Riley Keough, Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse, and more will bring Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling novel to life. Other shows to look forward to on the streamer are Donald Glover’s horror series...

Amazon Prime Video New Releases: March 2023
Image
With its list of new releases for March 2023, Amazon Prime Video might be rolling out its most impressive monthly lineup yet.

We know that sounds like something straight out of a press release but in this case, it’s actually true! Prime Video, bless it, has some excellent original titles like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but its monthly release updates have often been less inspiring than its TV peers. That’s certainly not the case with March 2023 though.

Prime Video gets its streaming party started early by premiering the first three episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six on March 3. This series, based on a book of the same name, tells the fictional Behind the Music-esque story of an equally fictional band. Then, on March 17, Amazon’s partnership with Donald Glover bears its first fruit with the series about obsessive fandom called Swarm. Reggie Jackson documentary Reggie premieres...

Everything Coming to Prime Video in March 2023
Image
March is still winter, no matter which animal you ask, which means it’s still completely acceptable to cancel all plans and curl up under a blanket in front of the TV. Prime Video’s movie library updates throughout the month, with most of its new additions on March 1 — including the “Rocky” saga, multiple “Carrie” adaptations, “12 Angry Men,” and more.

For Prime users who love books and TV, March means the highly-anticipated premiere of “Daisy Jones & the Six,” based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The eponymous Daisy (Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne’s band (Sam Claflin) make a mean match, starting with a hit single and leading to what seems like endless fame and glory. But where there is success there is peril, and both the band’s rise and an electric connection with Daisy threaten Billy’s marriage and everyone’s personal lives. James Ponsoldt,...

Grandma's on Fire in New Clip From 'The Wedding Ringer' (Kevin Hart Offers Best Man Services)
"The Wedding Ringer" is just one of a handful of projects on Kevin Hart's slate, with highlights that include co-starring with Will Ferrell in a comedy titled "Get Hard," a sequel to the immensely successful "Ride Along," his plans to launch a new 24-hour comedy network later this year, and more. Colin Firth and Emma Stone in Magic in the Moonlight (2014)
Weekend Report (cont.): 'Most Wanted Man' Cracks the Top 10, 'Apes' Rules Overseas
Colin Firth and Emma Stone in Magic in the Moonlight (2014)
<< Continued from "Weekend Report"Playing at 361 theaters, spy thriller A Most Wanted Man cracked the Top 10 with $2.7 million. That's the second-biggest opening ever for distributor Roadside Attractions, and is noticeably higher than last year's Mud ($2.2 million). With strong reviews and built-in curiosity surrounding the final lead role from Philip Seymour Hoffman, this should be a solid performer in the weeks ahead.Richard Linklater's Boyhood expanded to 107 theaters and earned $1.73 million this weekend ($16,121 average). The movie has now earned $4.1 million, which ranks fifth all-time for distributor IFC Films. According to IFC, there will be an aggressive expansion over the next few weeks that will include a national television advertising campaign. It's unclear exactly how high this can go, but a total north of $15 million seems like a likely outcome.Gabriel Iglesias stand-up flick The Fluffy Movie opened to $1.3 million from 432 theaters. In comparison, Kevin Hart: Laugh at My Pain...

Scarlett Johansson in Lucy (2014)
Forecast: 'Lucy' to Beat Up 'Hercules' This Weekend
Scarlett Johansson in Lucy (2014)
Friday Am Update: Lucy and Hercules both did solid business on Thursday night. Lucy earned an estimated $2.75 million, while Hercules scored an estimated $2.1 million. Among Summer releases, Lucy is above The Purge: Anarchy ($2.6 million), while Hercules topped Edge of Tomorrow ($1.8 million). For the weekend, both movies are going to earn at least $20 million.Forecast: On the final weekend of July, two very different action movies will try to reverse the domestic box office's downward trend. Hercules has a much bigger budget and arguably more star power in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, but the sword-and-sandals epic doesn't appear to be connecting with moviegoers. In contrast, Lucy's eye-catching visuals and intriguing "what if" story has put it on pace for an opening north of $30 million, which should be enough to take first place this weekend. At the start of Summer, Lucy's box office potential didn't look so hot. The movie was scheduled for August 8th,...

How 'Think Like A Man Too' Sensation Kevin Hart Went from Struggling Comic to CEO of His Own Brand
Kevin Hart
Kevin Hart is nothing if not a man with a plan. And so far, that plan appears to be working remarkably well. After years of honing his talents as a stand-up comic -- and, yes, after a few false starts while branching out into movies and television -- the North Philadelphia-born phenom has broken out as a multimedia star. He routinely sells out live performances throughout the world, his faux reality series "Real Husbands of Hollywood" is one of the highest-rated shows on the Bet cable network, and his films, well, let's put it like this: There have been few actors as ubiquitous on movie screens as Hart is right now since the 1960s and '70s heydays of Michael Caine and Gene Hackman. Consider: During the past two-and-a-half years, Hart has loomed large in such diverse fare as "Think Like a Man," "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" (a follow-up...

Interview: Gotta Have Hart
When Think Like a Man came out in 2012, Kevin Hart was just another member of the rom-com’s large ensemble. But he stole every scene in which he appeared, and — thanks to the success of his 2011 concert film Laugh at My Pain — audiences were finally able to connect his name with his face after nearly two decades in which he was just That Short Loud Guy.

Now, when people go to Think Like a Man Too, they may view it as The Kevin Hart Movie With All Those Other Folks. After years of plugging away in Hollywood and on the comedy club circuit, the 33-year-old Philadelphian broke out big earlier this year with the buddy-cop hit Ride Along. He’s trying to keep it all in perspective.

Review: About Last Night, Halfway Transformed By Kevin Hart Into A Raucous Comedy
Kevin Hart is a profane, raunchy, and very successful stand-up comedian who broke big with his indie film Laugh At My Pain in 2011. Combining footage from an arena show in Los Angeles with a visit to Hart's hometown of Philadelphia, as well as a sketch parody of Reservoir Dogs, the film made a modest yet impressive amount of money at the box office. Since then, his profile has risen dramatically. He co-starred in the sleeper hit romantic comedy Think Like a Man in 2012, and in the past year has appeared in This Is the End, Grudge Match, and his second concert documentary, Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain, which was a much bigger hit than his first, not to mention last month's Ride Along,...

Kevin Hart Semi-Autobiographical Comedy Pilot Gets ABC Order
Comedian Kevin Hart is a rising star, with his energetic, motor-mouth persona proving a draw in the stand-up realm with his popular specials Laugh At My Pain and Let Me Explain. He co-starred this year in the buddy comedy Ride Along with Ice Cube, the comedy sequel Think Like A Man Too (featuring an ensemble that includes Hart) is coming up, and he’ll be working with basketball star LeBron James on the big-screen B-ball comedy Ballers.

It was only a matter of time before the mainstream networks started sniffing around, so it’s not much of a surprise that Hart has made a television deal, but not necessarily as the star of the show.

Deadline reports that Hart will produce a multi-camera ...

Kevin Hart, LeBron James starring in basketball comedy Ballers
Kevin Hart and LeBron James are to appear in an upcoming basketball-themed comedy.

Ballers will star Hart as a man trying to emerge from the shadow of his successful basketball player brother at a weekend fantasy camp, reports Deadline.

Hart is slated to pen the screenplay for Ballers with collaborators Joey Wells (Bet's Comicview), Chris Spencer (Jamie Foxx's Laffapalooza) and Harry Ratchford (Laugh at My Pain).

A director will be hired once the first draft of the script is complete, with an eye to begin shooting the movie next summer. Brian Grazer will be a producer on the project.

This will be James's first starring film role, although he has previously acted on Saturday Night Live and Entourage.

James is currently producing a new comedy series for Starz.

Hart has been featured in two high-profile films this year, the apocalyptic comedy This Is The End and the stand-up movie Let Me Explain.

'Despicable' Drives July to Second-Highest Monthly Gross Ever
Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Pierre Coffin in Cattivissimo me 2 (2013)
Continuing the Summer's winning streak, aggregate domestic box office in the month of July came in at an excellent $1.37 billion. That isn't quite a new record for the month, though it does make it the second-highest-grossing month of all-time behind July 2011 ($1.395 billion). Overall, Summer 2013 box office is up 11 percent year-to-year. Even if August is awful*which is possible, though unlikely*the season will still be the highest-grossing one ever at the domestic box office.July box office was driven primarily by Despicable Me 2, which earned as much as the next three titles combined. Building on goodwill from the first movie, the animated sequel finished the month with a fantastic $314 million, which ranks sixth all-time among animated movies. Overseas, it's doing fantastic business as well, and could end its run with over $800 million worldwide. This is great news for Universal Pictures, which already has a Minions spin-off scheduled for next Christmas.

Weekend Report: 'Despicable' Defeats 'Ranger' Over Busy Fourth of July
Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Pierre Coffin in Cattivissimo me 2 (2013)
Over a very busy Fourth of July weekend, Despicable Me 2 had one of the best debuts ever for an animated movie, while The Lone Ranger got off to an underwhelming start. Meanwhile, Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain crushed expectations and did fantastic business for a stand-up movie. For the three-day weekend, the Top 12 earned $221.6 million. That ranks 10th all-time, and is the third weekend in the last four to rank in the Top 15. Through its first five days, Despicable Me 2 earned $143.1 million. That's just ahead of Toy Story 3 ($141 million) for top five-day start ever for an animated movie; while the differing release patterns keeps that from being a true apples-to-apples comparison, it still does give a good idea how immensely popular the sequel was over the holiday weekend. For the three-day period, Despicable Me 2 earned $83.5 million, which is on par with Monsters University's debut a few weeks ago.

Box office report: 'Despicable Me 2' leaves 'Lone Ranger' in the dust
Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Pierre Coffin in Cattivissimo me 2 (2013)
Over the extended 4th of July weekend, a lot of Americans lit up the grill and spent time with family. A lot unfolded lawn chairs and watched a fireworks show. And a whole lot bought tickets to see Despicable Me 2.

The $76 million animated film from Universal and Illumination Entertainment crushed the competition in its first five days in theaters, earning a jaw-dropping $142 million — $82.5 million of which came in during the traditional Friday-to-Sunday frame. In fact, Despicable Me 2, which features the voice work of Steve Carrell and Kristen Wiig, led the box office to the best July 4th weekend of all time.

Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain (2013)
Huge Opening For Kevin Hart Film Shocks Hollywood
Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain (2013)
"Despicable Me 2" and "The Lone Ranger" have received the lion's share of press over the last week, but it's "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" that has become a surprise box office hit. According to numbers released by Deadline.com, Hart's stand-up comedy film has already earned $7.4 million in ticket sales during its first two days of release. Per Variety, "Let Me Explain" could have $29 million in its coffers by Sunday night.

Should Hart's film -- which was filmed at a sold-out Madison Square Garden appearance last year -- reach that lofty tally during opening weekend, it would already become the fourth highest stand-up comedy film of all time, behind only "Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip" ($36 million), "The Original Kings of Comedy" ($38 million) and "Eddie Murphy Raw" ($50 million).

That "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" is a big success shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Hart's last stand-up comedy film,...

Box office update: 'Despicable Me 2' crushes 'Lone Ranger' on Wednesday
Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Pierre Coffin in Cattivissimo me 2 (2013)
Those little yellow minions can’t be stopped! Despicable Me 2 easily won the box office race on Wednesday with $34.3 million ($4.7 million of which came from Tuesday night showings beginning at 7 p.m.), putting it on pace for a remarkable $140 million five-day debut. The $76 million film, produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal, will easily notch one of the best opening weekends of 2013. And with an enthusiastic “A-” CinemaScore, the film is on track to quickly surpass The Croods and Monsters University to become the biggest animated hit of 2013.

Disney’s ultra-expensive western The Lone Ranger stumbled out of the gate on Wednesday,...

Forecast: 'Despicable 2' Set to Destroy 4th of July Weekend
Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Pierre Coffin in Cattivissimo me 2 (2013)
After May and June set new monthly records, July 2013 is poised to get off to a strong start over Independence Day weekend. Opening at 3,956 locations on Wednesday, Despicable Me 2 should be able to leverage goodwill from the original movie in to at least $100 million in its first five days. Meanwhile, The Lone Ranger rides in to 3,904 theaters, though it will probably only open to about half as much as Despicable Me 2. Finally, Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain debuts nationwide in 876 theaters and will have one of the best starts ever for a stand-up movie.Despicable Me 2 opens almost exactly three years after the first Despicable Me, which earned a surprising $251.5 million and put upstart animation house Illumination Entertainment on the map. After being well-received by audiences at the time, Universal Pictures has done a nice job maintaining the Despicable brand in toy stores and in their theme parks.

Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain (2013)
Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain: Film Review
Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain (2013)
Self-deprecation and ambition rub against each other in Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain, a cinematically thin document of a stand-up tour that aimed to present the comedian as an ascendant pop star. Diverting but not enough to expand Kevin Hart's fan base much, the film should be no less commercially attractive than 2011's Laugh at My Pain and will prime fans for a full slate of upcoming appearances in features such as Ride Along. Padding less than an hour's worth of on-stage material into something approaching theatrical feature length, the film begins with a staged set-up

Watch New 2-Minute Nsfw Clip From 'Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain' (In Theaters Today)
Here's a new Nsfw clip from the stand-up comedy movie, Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain, that will be released by Lionsgate/CodeBlack Films, today, July 3, just in time for the long holiday weekend (for some anyway). Executive produced by Hart and his Hartbeat Productions, and produced by CodeBlack's Jeff Clanagan, Let Me Explain includes a 2012 10-country concert tour, which saw Hart travel to 80 cities, generating over $32 million in ticket sales. CodeBlack also released Kevin Hart: Laugh at My Pain, which grossed $7.7 million in USA box office alone. I'm sure they're hoping for just as strong, or even stronger box office for Let me Explain, which the company is opening right...

Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Pierre Coffin in Cattivissimo me 2 (2013)
Box office preview: Minions will attract millions to 'Despicable Me 2' on July 4th weekend
Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Pierre Coffin in Cattivissimo me 2 (2013)
Thanks to Man of Steel, Fast & Furious 6, Monsters University, and the surprising success of Now You See Me, the box office climbed to record levels in June, earning $1.25 billion — a 19 percent increase over June 2012. This week, Despicable Me 2 and The Lone Ranger, which both begin showing tonight to take advantage of the July 4th holiday weekend, will try to keep the box office firing on all cylinders. The former is poised to dominate the field, but the latter seems unlikely to lasso a big enough audience to justify its gargantuan budget. Here’s how I think the box...

No details were given on plot during the announcement. About Last Night Releases Its Red Band Trailer
With Valentine’s Day just behind us, the red band trailer for About Last Night is already preparing us for next year’s Valentine.

Michael Ealy, Regina Hall and Kevin Hart, who all starred in last year’s Think Like A Man are reuniting for Steve Pink’s upcoming rendition of the 1986 film with the same name starring Rob Lowe and Demi Moore.

The romantic comedy is an adaptation of David Mamet’s 1974 play, Sexual Perversity in Chicago, which follows a couple in Los Angeles who develop a serious relationship from a one-night stand.

The 1986 film really showcased the trials of a relationship and examined the meaning of commitment. Despite the plot’s predictability, the adaptation excelled in its portrayal of what it truly meant to be in love.

With Pink’s About Last Night red band trailer, it’s hard to determine if the movie focuses on what really...

Kevin Hart Tapped By Warner Bros To Play 'Streetwise Guy' Opposite Will Ferrell In 'Get Hard'
And the beat goes on for Kevin Hart, who's maybe one of the busiest actors/comedians working right now. I've lost count of the number of projects he's been attached to since the break-out success of Think Like A Man; actually, maybe it started before that - his stand-up comedy concert Laugh At My Pain, also did some impressive damage at the box office, for a film of its ilk. Since then it's been one film and/or TV project after another, announced. Today's Kevin Hart news comes courtesy of Warner Bros, who has tapped Hart to co-star opposite Will Ferrell in a comedy titled Get Hard. In Get Hard, Ferrell will play a rich, effete...

Will Ferrell And Kevin Hart Attached To Star In The Comedy ‘Get Hard’; Warner Bros. May Acquire
Kevin Hart
For years, at least in some circles, comedian Kevin Hart was known as the uppity Smart Tech Customer who almost clapped up Jay (Romany Malco) in Judd Apatow's “The 40 Year Old Virgin.” The scene is hilarious, now a classic in some circles (definitely around The Playlist watercooler), and Hart stole the show. The dimunitive comedian (5'2") has since shot up. His 2011 stand-up comedy documentary “Laugh at My Pain” turned Tinstletown heads when it earned $2 million dollars in its first week of limited release. It was one of the most solid per screen averages of the year and the film, produced for only $750,000, eventually grossed $7 million. Clearly there was an audience out there for Kevin Hart that Hollywood was just waking up to. Hart hosted the Bet awards in 2011, in the spring he starred in the ensemble African-American rom-com “Think Like A Man” (it grossed $99 million off a $12 million budget) and in September of.
