The film is a feature-length adaptation of a 2010 grindhouse trailer by the same director, which was made as a film school project, and went viral.
Shot on 16mm film. Before the negatives were developed, they were put in an oven for ten minutes and baked at 200 degrees Fahrenheit (93 degrees Celsius) to achieve an aged look.
Most of the scratches on the film were achieved by Brendan Steere dragging the unprocessed film along surfaces in his bathroom, the only room in his apartment with no windows and therefore dark enough to not expose the raw film.
According to the DVD commentary by the writer/director, the Velociraptor costume used in the film had been in his basement for years. It had been made for a high school play, but the school's principal refused to let it be used because he believed it made the play too violent.
The movie cost the creators somewhere between $35,000 - $45,000.
