Prime Video’s November programming will dip its toe into Christmas and other holiday offerings such as The Holiday (2006) starring Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jack Black. The streamer will also add some films with sequels arriving in theaters this month, like Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) and Ridley Scott’s 1992 film Gladiator.

It's time to say goodbye to one free streaming platform. The good news is that its original shows will live on.

Per Bloomberg, it has been revealed that Amazon is shutting down Freevee, the ad-supported free streaming platform. There had been some speculation that Freevee's days were numbered, and it would seem that the rumors were true. Now, the plan is to phase out Freevee over the next few weeks and consolidate its content on the Prime Video platform. Amazon will continue to offer free content for non-Prime members, while Freevee Originals will be migrating over to streaming on Prime Video as well.

We hope you have your sprinklers on because this news is hot, hot, hot. Today, CBS set the return of Fire Country for Friday, October 18 from 9:00-10:00 pm. The shows third season promises to crank the heat all the way up after some absolutely bonkers twists rocked Season 2. Its no surprise that the fan-favorite procedural was picked up for a third season back in March and were super excited to have a day in mind for when Max Thieriots (House at the End of the Street) Bode and the rest of the firefighting gang are back on our screens.

With its list of new releases for June 2024, HBO streamer Max is finally headed back to Westeros.

The highlight of this month is undoubtedly the premiere of House of the Dragon season 2 on June 16. Episode 1 will drop on both HBO and Max that Sunday night at 9 p.m. Et. With the infamous Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons now underway, the next batch of episodes for this Game of Thrones prequel should be truly epic.

Arriving before House of the Dragon season 2 is another story of a fraught succession. There's nothing more frightening than the prospect of a murder happening right in the backyard, and Hollywood has capitalized off of this horrifying prospect with some of the best killer-next-door movies. Hollywood has always been obsessed with bad neighbors, as there's little scarier than realizing evil's made its home in the supposed safety of the suburbs. Killer neighbors make great antagonists to a movie's protagonist because whatever bad behavior they're up to always provides the main characters with a problem they're unable to get away from due to their proximity. Not only that, but the idea that a serial killer could be so close is a terrifying possibility, leading to some of the best serial killer horror movies.

There have been many movies made about annoying neighbors but the worst, of course, is when happy homeowners find themselves living next to a killer, which is the last thing anyone wants...

“Barry” returns for its fourth and final season. After the shocking Season 3 finale which saw Barry (Billy Hader) getting arrested and Cousineau (Henry Winkler) being hailed as a hero, there will be plenty of consequences for both. The dark comedy premieres on April 16 with two episodes.

“A Black Lady Sketch Show” will also bring plenty of laughs when it returns for its fourth season. The sketch comedy series premieres April 14.

On the drama side, the limited series “Love and Death” premieres on April 27. It’s based on the true story of Candy (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit) and Betty (Lily Rabe) and Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons) – two churchgoing couples enjoying their small-town Texas life… until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe.

For comic fans, the midseason premiere of the final season...

With its list of new releases for April 2023, HBO Max is premiering the final episodes of two major shows.

First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. Arriving three days later on HBO proper is the fourth and final season of Barry. Bill Hader and the rest of the Barry team wrote themselves into a fascinating corner with the conclusion of season 3. And judging by the first teasers for season 4, this final batch of episodes will indeed catch up with our favorite actor/hitman in prison.

Other TV shows of note this month include the Pete Davidson-starring animated series Fired on Mars on April 20 (light ’em up) the the Elizabeth Olsen-starring true crime story Love & Death on April 27.

Bill Hader returns for one final season of Barry and the popular sketch comedy A Black Lady Sketch Show kicks off its fourth season on HBO Max in April 2023. Additional highlights of the streaming service’s April lineup include the debut of Love & Death, a limited series starring Elizabeth Olsen and Patrick Fugit; season two of Somebody Somewhere with Bridget Everett; and the return of 100 Foot Wave for a second season.

In addition, the Titans mid-season premiere arrives on April 13. HBO Max offers this description of the fourth and final season’s remaining episodes: “The Titans – with the exception of Gar – are returned to the Temple of Trigon and rush to find Sebastian and Mother Mayhem before Sebastian summons Trigon. Along the way, they come across a prophecy that may require Kory to make a huge sacrifice to save the world.

In the final season of HBO Max’s “Barry,” premiering on April 16, Barry’s arrest for the murder of Cousineau’s girlfriend leads to a shocking conclusion. Barry (Bill Hader), a hitman who stumbles into acting, explores the dark, often comedic underbelly of both LA gangsters and Hollywood. There’s nothing quite like when HBO is airing one of its trademark watercooler-worthy dramas weekly. Thankfully, we’ll get to it experience exactly that and more on HBO Max in March 2023.

The big ticket item on HBO Max this March is undoubtedly Succession Season 4 on March 26. Part prestige drama and part screwball comedy, Succession is about as fun a watch as they come. Season 4 of the series about egregious wealth will find the Roy siblings reeling after trying and failing to take down their father, Logan (Brian Cox).

HBO Max’s other major TV option this month is another weekly release from HBO. Matthew Rhys returns as the titular lawyer in Perry Mason Season 2 on March 6. Season 1 of this period piece reboot flexed the classic TV character’s detective skills. From the look of the trailer, it seems as though this is the year Perry makes his name in the court room.

HBO Max’s new additions in March 2023 will feature the season finale of a hit series, the return of another award-winning show, and plenty of classic movies for the streamer’s library. February 2023 saw the streaming premieres of Oscar nominees Empire of Light and HBO documentary All That Breathes. The month also brought the releases of the holiday special Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver season 10. Additionally, HBO Max’s February and March streaming titles include two 2023 Best Picture nominees: Elvis and The Banshees of Inisherin.

Exclusive: Alec Baldwin has partnered with veteran actor and producer Anjul Nigam (Grey’s Anatomy) to form film and TV production company Persona Entertainment, whose first project will be on sale at the upcoming Cannes market.

Baldwin and Nigam were among producers of Rust, the film whose production was halted last year when Dp Halyna Hutchins was killed from a bullet discharged from a gun that contained a live round.

Baldwin is due to star in and exec-produce Persona’s first project, psychological thriller False Awakening, about a man whose waking nightmares start to fuse with his everyday life. Cal Fire is inspired by Thieriot’s experiences growing up in Northern California fire country and stems from an original idea by the actor. Phelan and Rater will write the teleplay from a story they co-wrote with Thieriot.

In Cal Fire, seeking redemption and a shortened prison sentence, young convict Bode Donovan joins a firefighting program that returns him to his small Northern California hometown, where he and other inmates work alongside elite firefighters to extinguish massive blazes across the region.

For “Spell” director Mark Tonderai, the movie serves as more than a hoodoo spirit-filled thriller — it’s his comeback story. After helming “House at the End of the Street,” the 2012 film of the same genre starring Jennifer Lawrence that raked in $44 million worldwide — opportunities to create another film of that magnitude were scarce, the director says.

“The film market changed. So, business changed and basically became about ultra-load budgets,” he tells Variety.

Being the accomplished director he is, Tonderai found work on a number of TV sets — he’s currently spending his days filming on the set of Netflix’s “Locke & Key” Season 2 (while also following Covid-19 guidelines). But because he was a Black director in the TV space, he began to feel some restrictions on where his creative abilities could take him within the realm of the small screen. Soon enough, he felt the itch to get back into studio films.

Following the recent news that the upcoming Blade reboot, which is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been on the hunt for writers, one director has now thrown their hat into the ring to helm the project. Locke & Key director Mark Tonderai recently explained why he thinks he'd be the perfect fit for Marvel's Blade reboot and praised the first big screen iteration of the character starring Wesley Snipes.

"I'd love to do Blade. Blade, for me, is right up my street in terms of my sensibilities. I also think Stephen Norrington did a brilliant job with the first incarnation of it, and I'd argue that it was the first, other than Tim Burton's Batman, superhero film that really revolutionised movies to where we are now. So, Blade, I would absolutely love to do."

“Spell” adds to the significant recent growth of African American horror cinema, though really only in casting terms. Otherwise, this reasonably suspenseful if implausible tale is just another variation on the familiar formula of “city folk” making a big mistake going to the country, where every primitive peril awaits them. Here, instead of homicidal hillbillies à la “Texas Chainsaw” and “The Hills Have Eyes,” it’s an Appalachian enclave of Black hoodoo practitioners, with upwardly mobile Omari Hardwick at the “Misery”-esque mercy of witchy Loretta Devine.

Shot in South Africa, British-Zimbabwean director Mark Tonderai and veteran Hollywood scribe Kurt Wimmer’s film isn’t aiming for regional authenticity, though it might have poured on the bad-dream atmospherics a bit thicker to make up for that lack. Nonetheless, this is a decently stylish thriller with occult elements that should satisfy viewers’ genre requirements, though few will demand a second watch...

"I'm gon' fix ya, I'ma fix you good." Paramount Pictures has released an official trailer for a horror movie called Spell, from director Mark Tonderai (House at the End of the Street). In this changed world of cinema due the pandemic, all the distributors are desperate to release any content they can and hope it finds an audience - so every horror movie available this year is being released in October (most of them available on VOD right away). Spell is about a wealthy father who survives a plane crash in rural Appalachia, but soon becomes suspicious of the strange elderly couple who take him in to nurse him back to health with ancient Hoodoo remedies. Omari Hardwick stars as Marq in this, along with Loretta Devine, John Beasley, and Lorraine Burroughs. This is a chilling hoodoo twist on the typical locked-up-until-they-heal horror concept with some seriously unsettling moments with this woman.

As the continuous presence of Adam Sandler more than shows, Netflix‘s Top 10 most-watched list is far from a barometer of quality. Admittedly, the best movies to be found on the streaming service often make their way to the top of the rankings, as does their lineup of star-powered blockbusters, but in recent months the charts have been throwing up a lot more surprises than usual.

The story sees teenager Elissa relocate with her mother to a small suburban neighborhood after her parents’ divorce, both of them only discovering after the move that their new home is on the same street as a house in which a double murder took place. Four years previously, a girl killed her parents and escaped into a nearby forest, never to be seen again, leaving behind her brother who is now a social pariah and whom Elissa befriends. Netflix continues to dominate the streaming competition, with the platform recently putting out a range of intriguing trailers for upcoming projects while also seeing some surprising choices pull in huge amounts of subscribers. Furthermore, the streamer put out thirteen new titles this weekend, including an underrated Jamie Foxx thriller that’s already doing well with audiences, as well as a host of returning and new television shows. It’s been a pretty good couple of months for streaming fans, and it seems like every platform is aiming to ensure viewers stuck inside have plenty to watch and enjoy until life resumes some sense of normalcy again. On that note, this weekend marks yet another few days of further content drops from all of your favorite streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, and Amazon Prime.

Up first, Netflix is releasing the second season of its hit show, Dead to Me, a dark comedy about loss, grief, and friendship with incredible performances from veteran TV actresses Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini.

Hulu, meanwhile, is debuting the very first season of the new animated show, Solar Opposites, created by Rick and Morty masterminds Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan. If you’re a fan of Roiland’s foul-mouth, wacky brand of humor, it might be worth checking out for a weekend binge.

As the global lockdown continues, with no real sign of when it might end, folks continue to turn to Netflix in their time of need, desperate for content to keep them entertained.

Thankfully, the streaming giant has been on the ball in recent months, bringing us lots of great movies and TV shows while also pumping out a hefty amount of originals, some of which have found tons of success (see: Extraction and Too Hot To Handle). While much of the entertainment world is in lockdown and in danger of drying up their respective content pipelines soon, Netflix has claimed that they have more than enough finished projects and business will continue as usual. While that may seem to be an outlandish boast, it’s hard to look at Netflix’s new releases for May 2020 and not think “man, they’re really just not stopping.”

Netflix’s new releases for May 2020 are positively loaded with new Netflix originals, intriguing recent films, and even some fun new stock TV shows. Office creator Greg Daniels latest project, Space Force, premieres on May 29 and will likely be Netflix’s big blockbuster this month. Having access to Daniels, Steve Carell, John Malkovich, Lisa Kudrow, and more will do that for a project.

Netflix has confirmed that 50 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in May. Leading off the lineup are Ryan Murphy‘s limited series “Hollywood” and the debut of the comedy series “Space Force,” which reunites “The Office” star and creator Steve Carell and Greg Daniels. Also look for the sophomore season of the comedy noir “Dead to Me,” with Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini.

In these trying times, we can take comfort in the slew of stand-up specials, including new sets by Jerry Seinfeld, Patton Oswalt and Hannah Gadsby. On the reality side, we can’t wait to gobble up season 2 of “Restaurants on the Edge” and season 3 of “Someone Feed Phil.”

You’re probably stuck inside right now during the pandemic and pining for the days when you had a social life. Thankfully, Netflix is coming to the rescue in May with a really exciting lineup of hit movies and new shows.

It’ll be a great month for films, specifically. The incredibly popular 80s time-traveling pics Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II will be joining the already-included third entry in the franchise, while those seeking some good laughs can check out the Jim Carrey-led comedies Fun with Dick and Jane and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Meanwhile, multiple entries in the Underworld series are dropping on the service for action-horror fans, whereas kids will be happy to hear that both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory will be available right out of the gate.

“Power” star Omari Hardwick is in final negotiations to lead the upcoming horror-thriller “Spell,” sources tell Variety.

Hardwick’s attachment to the Paramount Players project comes just as his hit crime drama is set to finish up with its sixth and final season.

“Spell” follows a man (Hardwick) who crashes his plane while en route to rural Appalachia with his family for a funeral and awakens to find himself totally alone and without his bearings. Relieved to be discovered by a seemingly kind elderly couple, he has no way of knowing the dark machinations that lie in wait as he is pulled deeper and deeper into a sinister world.

“Hush” (2008) and “House at the End of the Street” director Mark Tonderai will helm from a script by “Point Break” (2015) and “Total Recall” (2012) scribe Kurt Wimmer. Wimmer will also produce along with Gordon Gray, Morris Chestnut and Brian Wilkins.

“Spell” will hit theaters Aug.

Amp also signs post-production deal with Canadian company Eggplant.

Alliance Media Partners, the London-based production and finance company with offices in Toronto and La, has struck a non-exclusive agreement with Canadian producer Robert Menzies.

In a related deal, it has also sealed and a separate post-production accord with Toronto-based Eggplant.

The pact with Menzies will see the producer become the company’s Canadian representative, supervising co-productions and bringing in new acquisitions for both Amp’s production and financing arm, as well as its London-based sales arm Amp International.

The Strangers writer-director Bryan Bertino's new nightmare The Dark & the Wicked has just snagged it's cast in the form of Marin Ireland (The Miseducation of Cameron Post), Michael Abbott Jr. (The Death of Dick Long), and Xander Berkeley (The Walking Dead). Bertino's new film follows the tale of terror centering on two siblings who are summoned back to the family farm to await the inevitability of their father's death, and what initially appears to be a timeless ritual of loss and remembrance turns out to be something very different.

While this has not been confirmed, I can only imagine that Ireland and Abbott Jr. will be playing the siblings mentioned above while Berkeley will be portraying the family patriarch at the end of his life. But again, this has not been confirmed at this time.

One of the main reasons I'm excited about today's news is the inclusion of actor Xander Berkeley.
