AMC+ has a cool mix of TV shows and movies, but does it offer any 4K viewing options?

For one price, viewers get access to the library of AMC+ itself, plus other AMC-owned streaming services like Shudder, Sundance Now, and IFC Films Unlimited. All of that content for AMC+’s $7 monthly price is a good deal, but with that kind of discount, what trade-offs can viewers expect?

For example, does AMC+ have 4K content? We’ve got more details about that question right here, and we’ll let you know what we turned up.

Lucy Hale's in-the-works Netflix thriller series already sounds like a must-watch
Image
On April 14, Deadline broke the news that, after a bidding war, Netflix had secured a new thriller series adaptation based on the book Dead Letters by Caite Dolan-Leach. Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) is set to star and executive produce the drama with Alex Cooper's (Call Her Daddy ) Unwell Productions and Aaron Laplan's Kaptial Entertainment.

The project took off because Lucy Hale loved reading the book. After talking to her manager, Leeds, they looped in Kaplan to collaborate on the thriller series. It's no surprise that Hale is set to play identical twins, Ava and Zelda. Her love for the story could prove crucial to the success of this upcoming Netflix show. Book adaptations can be tricky, but having a fan of the book star in and produce it sounds like a win.

Fans have seen Hale pull off a multitude of different characters throughout her career. I haven't read the book,...

Lucy Hale to star in Antarctica-set sci-fi thriller film White Mars
Image
Lucy Hale will brave the frigid temperatures for her upcoming science fiction thriller film White Mars, which sounds a little bit like a modern take on The Thing.

According to Deadline, the actress has been cast as microbiologist Sammie, who has been assigned to an isolated research facility in Antarctica. Sammie soon finds herself fighting for survival when something evil infiltrates the compound with a single goal in mind: extinguish everyone inside of it.

Perhaps the most intriguing thing about White Mars is that it will be filmed entirely inside a virtual production studio by the entertainment company Singularity, which specializes in this kind of groundbreaking filmmaking technology that utilizes a mixture of augmented reality, CGI, and other cutting-edge tech to create immersive and realistic environments. Netflix used a virtual production studio to film the German mystery series 1899.

The film will be directed by Martin Owen, who also directs Above the Below with Idris Elba,...

Which Brings Me to You Clip Teases the Sultry Romance Between Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff
Image
Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff make a gorgeous pair in the witty modern rom-com, Which Brings Me to You, which is in theaters Jan. 19, 2024, from Decal. The full synopsis for the new film reads as follows:

"Two romantic messes. One boring wedding. One heated embrace in a quiet coatroom. This is not exactly the recipe for true love. Will and Jane’s encounter at a friend’s wedding isn’t really the beginning of anything with any weight to it; even they know that. When they manage to pull back, it occurs to them that they might start this whole thing over properly. They might try getting to know one another first.

What follows over the course of the day and night is a series of traded confessions — of their messy histories, their past errors, their big loves, their flaws, and their passions. Each love affair, confessed as honestly as possible,...

Pretty Little Liars: Cast And Character Guide
Image
This article contains references and discussions of eating disorders

Adapted from the YA book series by Sara Shepard, Pretty Little Liars is one of the most gripping teen mysteries, and that is thanks to the large, talented cast. While the spotlight is on the five actors playing Alison Dilaurentis and the four friends looking into her disappearance from Rosewood, there are many main and supporting players who contribute to the show's fast-paced and powerful plot - from relatives, romantic partners and acquaintances who seem trustworthy but end up being suspicious.

Pretty Little Liars helped propel many young actors to fame, who have gone on to star on other popular TV shows or explore their film careers. Several main characters were also played by stars with notable roles on their resumes already. From every character who played A on Pretty Little Liars to those wondering who is stalking teenagers in this otherwise perfect small town,...

Lucy Hale's How I Met Your Mother Role, Explained
Image
Early on in her career, Lucy Hale had a guest-starring role on How I Met Your Mother first appearing in a season 2 episode. The actor became famous for playing the smart and creative Aria Montgomery on Pretty Little Liars from 2007 to 2011 and has appeared in romantic comedies like The Hating Game and A Nice Girl Like You. Hale has also turned to the horror genre, with one of her first roles being Jenna Campbell in Fear Island, and appeared in the 2018 Blumhouse film Truth Or Dare and the dark 2021 miniseries Ragdoll.

Hale's How I Met Your Mother role helped her land other roles, from Aria to Sherrie, a character in Stab 6 in the clever opening sequence of Scream 4. While Aria's problematic Pll romance with Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding) is a source of controversy, Hale became associated with the young adult drama character, and her career took off afterward. Hale's...

‘Killing Eve’ Producer Sid Gentle Wholly Acquired by BBC Studios
Image
BBC Studios is set to wholly acquire Sid Gentle Films, the production company behind hits such as “Killing Eve” and “Ragdoll.”

BBC Studios, the BBC’s commercial production and distribution arm, is intent on growing its portfolio of U.K. scripted labels. It already wholly owns Lookout Point (“Happy Valley 3”), Clerkenwell Films (“Somewhere Boy”), House Productions (“Sherwood”) and most recently Firebird Pictures (“Wahala”) and is the controlling shareholder in Baby Cow (“Chivalry”).

In 2018 it acquired a 51 stake in Sid Gentle, which was founded in 2013 by Sally Woodward Gentle, with Lee Morris and Henrietta Colvin.

The production company has also been responsible foe shows including “The Durrells,” “Neil Gaiman’s Likely Stories” and the upcoming Disney+ series “Extraordinary” and is currently working on “Rain Dogs,” starring Daisy May Cooper.

BBC Studios CEO Tom Fussell, speaking at Mipcom on Monday, said: “I’m delighted to announce the full acquisition of Sid Gentle Films.

BBC Studios Takes Full Control Of ‘Killing Eve’ Producer Sid Gentle Films & Relocates Top Scripted Exec Mark Linsey To LA — Mipcom Cannes
Image
BBC Studios has taken full control of Killing Eve producer Sid Gentle Films, unveiled on day one of Mipcom.

The BBC’s commercial production-distribution arm already owned 51 of the business following a 2018 deal and has now snapped up the remaining shares.

Sid Gentle is best known for BBC America thriller drama Killing Eve, but is also behind long-running ITV drama The Durrells, SS-gb for BBC One and UKTV and AMC’s Ragdoll among others, and is currently in post-production on Rain Dogs, which Cash Carraway wrote for the BBC and HBO, and Emma Moran Disney+ comedy Extraordinary. The company was founded in 2013 by Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris and Henrietta Colvin.

BBC Studios already wholly owns Lookout Point, Clerkenwell Films, and House Productions and is the controlling shareholder in Baby Cow. It also took the remaining shares in Wilderness producer Firebird Pictures earlier this month, as it deepens its investment in premium scripted companies.

BBC Studios CEO Tom Fussell was in Cannes this morning delivering a keynote, where he said: “Led by Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris, Sid Gentle is home to unmissable returning hits. Best known for BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Killing Eve, the future slate is just as exciting.”

In a statement, Woodward Gentle, CEO of Sid Gentle, said: “We couldn’t be more delighted to continue our journey with BBC Studios. They have been the most supportive, collaborative and creative partner. It is an honor to work with the most wonderful team at Sid and to feel a shared ambition and outlook with BBC Studios.”

Mark Linsey heads to LA

Fussell also announced Managing Director For Scripted, Mark Linsey, is relocating from London to LA to “place him geographically closer to key global content decision makers as BBC Studios seeks to build further co-production, investment and commissioning opportunities for its scripted offer.”

Linsey is BBC Studios most senior scripted exec, having taken on his current role in a restructure earlier this year. His current role gives him oversight of the firm’s UK-based teams including Doctor Who producer BBC Studios Drama Productions, EastEnders and Casualty maker BBC Studios Continuing Drama Series and Good Omens and Trying division BBC Studios Comedy Productions, alongside its wholly owned and controlled scripted labels, scripted indie minority shareholdings and distribution relationships.

He’ll retain those duties and continue to report to BBC Studios Productions CEO Ralph Lee. Additionally, he’ll now work closely with both Janet Brown, BBC Studios’ newly appointed President of Content Distribution for North America and Latin America, and Valerie Bruce, General Manager and leader of BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions, and their teams, to grow BBC Studios’ presence.

“Under the leadership of Mark Linsey, previously BBC Director of Television and BBC Studios Chief Creative Officer, we are investing in the UK’s most exciting talent and creative labels,” Fussell told Mipcom delegates. “I am thrilled to share today that Mark will relocate from London to LA to grow further BBC Studios’ commitment to the West Coast and our shared creative ambition.”

“Taking our world-class portfolio of labels and units direct to the heart of the world’s largest English language scripted market is a natural next step,” said Linsey. “I look forward to working closer than ever with US based colleagues and customers to fund and create unique new series for the world to enjoy.”...

AMC Networks Reaches More Than 9 Million Paid Streaming Subscribers by End of 2021
Image
AMC Networks reached more than 9 million paid streaming subscribers by the end of 2021, the company revealed while reporting its fourth-quarter 2021 earnings Wednesday. It also beat Wall Street’s expectations for both its Q4 revenue and profit.

AMC Networks previously said it expected to have 9 million streaming subscribers by the end of 2021, and forecast between 20 million to 25 million paid subscribers across its streaming services by 2025. The company has now hit (and exceeded) that first benchmark and says it’s pacing to achieve the long-term target as well, anticipating getting halfway to that goal by the end of this year.

CFO Christina Spade said during the company’s investor call presenting the Q4 results later Wednesday morning that AMC Networks expects to add 400-500,000 streaming subscribers in Q1.

AMC Networks’ current streaming sub tally may seem small compared to its major streaming competition, like Netflix Disney Plus, HBO Max and Paramount Plus,...

BBC Studios-Owned UKTV Posts Record Viewing Share As Drama Pivot Reaps Rewards
Image
BBC Studios-owned channel group UKTV achieved its record share of TV viewing last year, increasing by almost 5% as dramas such as Annika and Ragdoll generated big audiences.

According to UKTV, total share rose by 4% to 4.8% across all hours, with drama channels Alibi and Drama performing particularly well. Share of Commercial Impacts, a measure used by advertisers, rose by 5.7% to a record 8.5%.

UKTV identified originals such as Nicola Walker-starring Annika, whose top episode has been watched by more than 1.3M people and is Alibi’s most-watched show of all time, along with Sid Gentle Films’ Ragdoll, as key to its success.

The channel group has pivoted towards a scripted strategy over the past couple of years, also ordering the likes of BBC Studios’ We Hunt Together and Red Production Company’s Traces.

Non-scripted titles to perform well included Dave formats Meet the Richardsons and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, the latter...

Ragdoll (2021)
Ragdoll Sneak Peek: The Killer's Weapon of Choice
Ragdoll (2021)
We've got an exclusive sneak peek at Ragdoll Season 1 Episode 3, premiering Thursday, November 25 on AMC+.

Rose's erratic behavior raises questions for Edmunds, but Baxter won't listen.

In the clip, Edmunds and Rose work alone, trying to track the killer's movements.

That gives Edmunds time to quiz Rose, but she winds up being a lot more forthcoming than getting information from Rose.

We learn all kinds of things about Rose, including her high school habits and how she hid away from social situations.

Her interest in astrology is also revealed as she pegs Rose for a Cancer.

Without missing a beat, he says, "Oh, cheers," as he believed she was assessing him as a cancer, not as a Cancer.

There are so many brilliant little comedic moments with Ragdoll, which makes it unbelievably watchable despite the dark content.

Meanwhile, Baxter is trying to protect the third victim, but with the killer one step ahead,...

Lucy Hale Talks Creepy New Series ‘Ragdoll,’ Moving Behind the Camera and ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Reboot
Image
In the first episode of “Ragdoll,” the new cat-and-mouse cop show from “Killing Eve” creators Sid Gentle, the lead trio of detectives played by Lucy Hale, Henry Lloyd-Hughes and Thalissa Teixeira encounter a cadaver (the titular Ragdoll) stitched together from the limbs, torso and head of six separate murder victims, strung up from the ceiling.

Even Hale, a self-confessed true-crime fan, was disturbed by the gruesome sight. “I’m pretty good at compartmentalizing, obviously, what I do for a living [and] who I am, what’s real, what’s not real,” the “Pretty Little Liars” alum tells Variety.

“But this day in particular was so strange because the three of us decided not to see the Ragdoll before we shot that scene. And when we saw it, I mean, you’re kind of speechless,” she says. “It looks like a real human: the detail, the skin colour, the hair. It was dripping,...

Ragdoll (2021)
The Main Characters Of Ragdoll, Ranked By Likability
Ragdoll (2021)
Even though the new AMC+ show Ragdoll is a brand new addition to the streaming service, the series is off to an exciting start and is reminiscent of some other incredible crime dramas. One way of describing the series to newcomers is that if Sherlock and Dexter had a baby, it would be Ragdoll.

That said, the character in this show are much more realistic, not quite as charming as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's quick-witted detective. Although audiences have only been introduced to the cast of characters, there are some that are much more likable than others right off the bat.

For now, settle back and get to know Ragdoll's engaging trio of leads in our interview, which was laced with laughter from start to finish. Make sure you lean into the humor to get immersed fully in the discussion.

Prepare to See Lucy Hale Like Never Before in Super-Dark Thriller Ragdoll
Lucy Hale
Lucy Hale is known for her roles in bubblegum-y shows like Pretty Little Liars and Katy Keene, but the actress is introducing herself to new audiences in the AMC+ show Ragdoll. The 32-year-old star takes on the role of Lake Edmunds in the British investigative drama which is darker than dark. Case in point: The first episode shows a Frankenstein-esque monstrosity that is composed of different peoples' body parts.  It's an entirely new genre to Lucy, but one that she is embracing with arms wide open, exclusively telling E! News in a recent interview that she feels like she's "entering a new chapter of, not only my career, but my life." "I just feel older,...

Ragdoll (2021)
Ragdoll Perfectly Blends Humor and the Macabre with Thrilling Results
Ragdoll (2021)
Can humor and the grotesque reside side-by-side?

Fans of horror the world over know this with certainty.

AMC+'s Ragdoll isn't a horror movie or even a horror series, but humor keeps its grasp of the grotesque and grisly from going too far off the deep end.

Starring Lucy Hale, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, and Thalissa Teixeira, Ragdoll centers on three detectives of varying ranks trying to solve a macabre case in which one of them is set to be the final victim.

Pretty Little Liar fans have watched Hale's career grow beyond the teen mystery, and DC Lake Edmunds is far from the beaten path of where she'd gone before.

It's not so surprising once you know that Hale has a love affair with British crime and mystery shows, but it does show her in a new, rather impressive light.

Edmunds is the odd gal out in this trio, as an...

AMC+’s ‘Ragdoll’: TV Review

The killer in AMC+’s new drama Ragdoll attracts the attention of the London police through a particularly gruesome Mo: He has fabricated and carefully positioned a murder victim cobbled together from the bits and pieces of six murder victims, leaving the authorities to solve a half-dozen killings while at the same time trying to work their way through a kill list of six future targets.

It’s one of those head-scratching things where, after watching three episodes of Ragdoll, I’m truly not sure if Freddy Syborn (Killing Eve), adapting Ragdoll from the novel of the same name by Daniel Cole, recognizes that ...

Lucy Hale‘s new AMC+ thriller Ragdoll is exactly the kind of nightmare fodder that would keep Aria Montgomery — or any of Hale’s previous TV characters — up at night. And that’s kind of the point.
