As someone who’s always admired the look of the Czech embassy in Berlin––an array of nicotine-hued trapezoids that sits on the corner of Wilhelm Strasse––I was pleased to discover that the Spa Hotel Thermal in Karlovy Vary was designed up by the same architectural duo. Walking into town from the train station, it’s always the first thing you see: a reliable slab of brutalist concrete that towers over the town’s otherwise candy-colored skyline––one of which, The Grand Hotel Pupp, was even grand enough to inspire Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel.
The Thermal was constructed in the late 1960s and ’70s by Věra and Vladimír Machonin as a multi-screen theatre and central meeting point of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, which at the time operated biannually, trading the spotlight each year with Moscow as the place for socialist cinema. Most anime fans love a good shonen anime, as fans generally know what they're getting into. Tournaments, cool fight scenes, occasionally the power of friendship as a power-up. That said, creators aren't afraid to shake things up with their series to avoid things becoming overly predictable.
Often happening early on in a series, shonen series will often have an arc that redefines the entire series. These arcs often feature tone changes, stylistic changes to the art, and sometimes even a shift to the way battles are fought within the series. After these arcs, a show is usually never the same, which is why they're often so beloved by fans. Offering both massive character changes and tons of plot development, its easy to see how these arcs become unforgettable.

A reliable leaker suggests Persona 6 could be out soon, released as a complete game with Dlc to follow. This would be a new release strategy for Persona games, unlike past games that released enhanced editions. Internal changes at Sega could explain the change.
Rumors of a release date for Persona 6 have existed for years, but new rumors suggest an update could be coming soon. The as-yet-unannounced installment in the Shin Megami Tensei spinoff series, Persona 6 would technically be the seventh mainline Persona game. An Iranian court has cleared two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker Asghar Farhadi of plagiarism charges lodged against him regarding his 2021 film “A Hero,” which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival that year. The legal case had been ongoing for two years.
One of Farhadi’s former students, Azadeh Masihzadeh, claimed that the director based his film off a documentary she’d made in one of his Tehran-based filmmaking workshops in 2014. Two-time Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi has been fully cleared by an Iranian court of allegations of plagiarism pertaining to his film “A Hero” that launched from the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
Farhadi’s former student Azadeh Masihzadeh had accused the filmmaker of stealing the idea for “A Hero” from a documentary she made during a filmmaking workshop held by Farhadi in 2014 in Tehran. Her allegations of plagiarism led an Iranian court to open preliminary trial proceedings in March 2022.
The court has now issued a verdict according to which several Tehran University copyright law experts and other experts have rejected the accusations as baseless, clearing Farhadi of all blame and putting an end to Masihzadeh’s legal action, according to a statement issued by Farhadi’s French producer Alexandre-Mallet Guy corroborated by Iranian reports.

Iranian authorities have rejected as “baseless” allegations that director Asghar Farhadi stole the idea for his acclaimed 2021 feature A Hero.
A former student of the two-time Oscar winner, director of A Separation and The Salesman, sued Farhadi for allegedly pilfering her premise for A Hero. Farhadi had always denied the allegations.
On Wednesday, a group of three professors at Tehran University specializing in copyright law, along with four official art experts, rejected the claims as invalid and baseless, clearing Farhadi of all blame.
The student, Azadeh Masihzadeh, claimed Farhadi plagiarized the story for A Hero from a documentary (titled All Winners, All Losers) she made for his class. Both the documentary and Farhadi’s fiction film share the same basic story of an inmate in debtors’ prison who, while on leave, finds a bag of gold coins and struggles with the decision to keep the money or return it. As depicted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return #1, former Black Ranger Zack broke one of Zordon's core rules by outing himself as a Power Ranger after the team disbanded; however, he argues that this was worth it, because he has used his resulting fame to help those in need. Zordon's rules are intended to to protect the Rangers, but Zack's new role in The Return shows that being a hero doesn't always require a Morpher. Despite losing his powers, Zack continues to make a difference by using his platform for charitable causes – though he may find himself suiting up once more before the miniseries is over.
Warning: Spoilers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return #1!Once his days as one of the Power Rangers are behind him, the original Black Ranger rightfully breaks one of Zordon's most essential rules. Dating back to the first episode of the original 1990s series,...

Netflix plans to bring a live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia to the small screen following the success of One Piece. The anime is known for its powerful and emotional moments, such as All Might's "You Too Can Become A Hero" speech. The live-action adaptation has the potential to capture the thrilling action and heartfelt scenes of My Hero Academia, like the showdown between All Might and One for All.
On the heels of its success with One Piece, Netflix seems intent on bringing a live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia to the small screen — and if it handles the source material well, there are many great moments to look forward to. My Hero Academia is one of the biggest anime currently airing, and it's easy to see why it's so popular. Age Out (A.J. Edwards)
The only thing worse than never getting your happy ending is having it within grasp and realizing you cannot accept it. To see salvation and turn around knowing it would be a lie is the type of heartbreaking choice we often have to make in order to keep on going. It’s the decision that separates man from monster: an admission of remorse, guilt, and regret. Our actions cause ripples that affect countless others we haven’t met yet or never will and while that truth allows some to sleep at night, the rest wonder what nightmares the collateral damage of their deeds endure as a result. You could say that the only thing separating those two groups is love.

Iran has submitted Reza Mirkarimi’s The Night Guardian for Best International Film category at the 96th Academy Awards, in a move that will likely prompt pushback from the country’s dissident film community.
A press release announcing the selection said the film had been selected by the government-controlled Farabi Cinema Foundation from three short-listed titles which also included Omid Shams’s Conjugal Visit and Ali Hazrati’s The Town.
The drama stars Touraj Alvand as the story of a rural worker forced to move to the city where he ekes out a living on the streets.
The announcement coincides with the first anniversary of the Woman Life Freedom protests provoked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini on September 16, 2022 after being held in police custody for not wearing her veil correctly.

It's no secret that Dragon Ball Gt didn't live up to fans' expectations after Dragon Ball Z. Trying to take everything back to the adventurous tone of the original Dragon Ball, Gt stumbled by nervously embracing Dbz's battle-oriented storytelling in its latter half. As disappointing as Dvgt may have been, the series ends on an emotional high note by highlighting Goku's legacy far into the future.
Dragon Ball Ball Gt's final episode featured a fight between Goku and Vegeta's descendants, but there may be more going on here. Reincarnation plays a major role throughout Dragon Ball Z (especially at the end wth Uub) so it’s possible – if somewhat unlikely – that Goku’s great-great-grandson is actually him. Here’s how the original Z Fighter seemingly lived beyond all the others.

"The Mandalorian" just tied up the loose ends of its third season with a grand battle to reclaim Mandalore, and it had everything you could want out of a big "Star Wars" battle: lightsabers, blasters going "pew-pew," spaceships crashing into enemy bases, bad guys falling into shafts, and much more.
But as cool as some of the moments were, the finale overall felt like it wasted one of the show's core characters — Grogu. After "The Mandalorian" all but brought an end to Grogu's story in season two, he's been on the sidelines for most of this season. Not that the foundling is just sitting idly by on his little floating cradle all season, of course, but his part in the story has been reduced to just the cute creature he was when we first met him.
This is why Grogu getting his own mecha suit in last week's episode was so exciting.

Two-time Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi, Iran’s best-known director, was at the Zurich Film Festival last September when protests following the death of Mahsa Amini erupted in his home country.
Since then, the auteur of “A Separation,” “The Salesman” and “A Hero” has not returned to Iran. He’s been working on a new film in Los Angeles and Europe. Interestingly, he says he plans to go back to his country before he shoots this film, even though he is not 100% sure they will let him out again. It’s clearly a risk that the enigmatic Farhadi is willing to take.
Farhadi was in Turin on Monday to give a masterclass at Italy’s National Museum of Cinema, where he also received a lifetime achievement award. In a rare interview, he took questions via e-mail from Variety.

Netflix is making moves to have more environmentally friendly sets, and they're announcing their first steps towards that in a big way. During the 2023 Super Bowl, the streamer revealed it has partnered with General Motors to showcase their lineup of electric cars in future productions. They also recruited Will Ferrell to break the news, having him drive through various Netflix productions as he talks about this latest partnership.
You might be wondering how exactly that'll work with every Netflix property, and thankfully, Ferrell's got the answer for you. As he demonstrates in increasingly bizarre fashion, programs that take place in the current day or the future, such as "Army of the Dead" or "Squid Game," will feature electric Gm cars. However, don't expect period pieces like "Bridgerton" or "Stranger Things" to suddenly get a modern upgrade. This partnership will also extend to the streamer's unscripted slate, which includes the addictive "Love is Blind.

Quentin Tarantino is one of the most respected working filmmakers today, but why exactly are so many of his films so widely well-received? Are all of his ideas brilliant from the start, or does he just have a good nose for sniffing out the duds? The director, who also pens much of his work himself, has shed some light on his writing process. He has to trust his own intuition as an artist, but he is never afraid to phone a friend.
Tarantino is responsible for some of the most popular films of the last few decades, from his debut "Reservoir Dogs" to the star-studded epic "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." He has a strong work ethic, but not everything that he writes makes it onto the big screen. In fact, many of his words never even make it onto a computer screen. Marrakech – Compassion, understanding, not taking characters at face value. These are all philosophies that inform Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s sage, humanistic approach to drawing his characters, as discussed on stage Tuesday at the Atlas Workshops’ (14-17 November), the Marrakech Film Festival’s project, talent-and-mentoring forum.

When people talk about the writing of the late author Anne Rice, they usually focus on sensuous prose and bold sexuality. Her early erotic fiction under a pseudonym is often discussed, and most people describe her "Vampire Chronicles" as sexy more than scary. What people fail to mention is that the woman was capable of describing horrific acts of violence just as artfully as she did moments of ecstasy or beauty; in fact, she may have been even better at the blood and guts. There are moments in Rice's books that have burned into my memory as surely as the goriest gag from the most brutal horror movie because her ability to paint a picture with words was among the greatest of all time.

Amazon Prime recently released the highly anticipated film My Policeman, starring Harry Styles, adding to its already impressive slate of original movies. These projects typically go straight to the streaming service and some have had massive budgets, while others have been critically acclaimed.
There's also a handful of fantastic releases from Amazon Studios, with a few of those movies even garnering Oscar buzz come awards season. Olivia Wilde's latest directorial venture, "Don't Worry Darling," was one of the most talked-about films of the year, mostly due to the off-screen drama surrounding the cast and crew, since the overall film was, as we described in our review, a stylish thriller that fell short of its high-minded ideas. The Florence Pugh ("Little Women"), Harry Styles ("Dunkirk"), Gemma Chan ("Crazy Rich Asians"), KiKi Layne ("The Old Guard"), Chris Pine ("All the Old Knives"), and Wilde ("Babylon"), starring film was inspired by the classic Hollywood films of yesteryear, set in an idealized community called Victory in an alternate 1950s with a sinister secret bubbling beneath its idyllic varnish. "Don't Worry Darling" was a moderate success at the box office, but the psychological thriller will soon be able to be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home.

Brendan Fraser is very passionate about acting — just ask his doctors. The actor has sustained over a dozen injuries throughout his career. Getting your first opportunity in such a competitive field is rarely easy, and for Fraser, it was clear from the beginning that the actor was ready to do whatever it took to kickstart his Hollywood career.
Before his role in "The Mummy" franchise that made Brendan Fraser a certified action star, the actor was still crashing into things, willing to go to dizzying, dangerous heights to get a role in a movie. And he suffered the consequences from the very beginning. "The Mummy" may have given Fraser injuries to keep him in and out of the hospital for seven long years, but the performer also sustained a rib injury in his very first acting role, all the way back in 1991.

Like many '60s rock stars, Jim Morrison lived fast, died young, and became a music icon. Known for his soothing voice, poetic lyrics, and public antics, The Doors' leadman was celebrated for pushing boundaries with his music and lyrics after bursting onto the rock scene in the late '60s. In addition to pushing boundaries on stage, Morrison exposed himself on stage, mocked concert audiences, and experimented with hard drugs. In 1971, "The Lizard King" joined the tragic 27 club when he died of heart failure in a french bathtub. It's suspected that drugs contributed to Morrison's death, but an autopsy wasn't performed.
Never one to shy away from a controversial event or character, Oliver Stone co-wrote and directed "The Doors," a biopic focused on Morrison and his chaotic life. After portraying an elite navy pilot in the '80s hit, "Top Gun," Val Kilmer grew his hair, slid into skintight leather pants,...

There is barely anyone who isn’t rich or in position of power who doesn’t often exclaim “I would never do that if I were in their shoes”, truly convinced to hold a higher moral ground than “them folks”. You can thank this self-foolery for all the irritating quotes and misquotes by big thinkers, shanti-shanti spiritual leaders, and celebrities on social media, the same you can also find on the wall calendars and help-yourself books. Hell is other people, right?
Make no mistake, Houman Seyedi’s 6th feature “World War III” also leans on a quote attributed to Mark Twain which kicks it off, but this one sits hand in hand with the script which fabulously rhymes the events. “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes”, goes the sad quote, gaining more on its meaning with every passing minute of the film. Hell is,...
