One of the biggest movie surprises of 2009 was that Brad Silberling's uncalled-for film adaptation of the 1970s Sid and Marty Krofft Saturday morning adventure show, "Land of the Lost," was not a waste of its talents' time. Though the film wasn't a creative high point for any of its cast members, they were all sublimely game for what Silberling and the screenwriting duo of Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas were attempting. And while everyone is in fine form, it's hard to deny that Taccone steals the film as a mischievous, dirty-minded Chaka who keeps trying to get Ferrell's Dr. Rick Marshall killed.

As Netflix works on reviving this 1970s cult classic sci-fi favorite from half a century ago, a special treat awaits fans, and it comes at just the right time. Land of the Lost, which premiered on September 7, 1974, on NBC, has now been made available to stream for absolutely free ahead of its reboot’s arrival. The show was produced by Sid and Marty Krofft, who co-developed it with Allan Foshko, while David Gerrold, though uncredited, created it.
Comprising three seasons and 43 episodes, Land of the Lost is currently streaming on YouTube free with ads, almost fifty years since the show’s final episode aired on December 4, 1976. Since then, many have placed the adventure series in high regard, despite being somewhat cheesy, and even during its run, it was generally well-received, especially by kids and those who enjoyed its adventurous and imaginative storylines.

A new Harold & Kumar movie is in the works, bringing back the iconic stoner duo for another wild ride. The project is being written by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, the creative team behind Netflix’s Cobra Kai. Hurwitz and Schlossberg, who wrote the original 2004 film Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, will also direct this sequel, produced by Lionsgate’s Mandate Pictures.
John Cho and Kal Penn are expected to return as Harold and Kumar, though their contracts are still pending. It’s unclear if Neil Patrick Harris, who stole scenes as himself in the earlier films, will make an appearance.
The movie is in early stages but promises to deliver the same R-rated, chaotic humor that made the franchise a cult hit. “We’re fired up to bring Harold and Kumar back in a return to the unapologetically R-rated, smoke-filled chaos that started it all,...

A classic cult TV series may be the newest property to get a fantastic new Netflix revival! There’s a tendency for streamers to look to the past for new takes on classic TV shows. Netflix has certainly shown that with new versions of older shows such as Lost in Space, Good Times, and One Day At a Time.
Now, Deadline reports that development is underway for Netflix to produce a new version of the 1970s fantasy kids series Land of the Lost. It will come from Sid and Marty Krofft, the pair originally behind the series, and Deanna Krofft Pope, with Legendary Entertainment producing.
It should be noted that as of yet, neither Netflix or Deadline have confirmed or denied the reports. This is only the early stages, according to Deadline’s sources, meaning no writer yet or ideas on the episode count and obviously nowhere near casting its leads.

His niece, Kayse Gale, shared a lengthy post on Facebook which said, “It is with a heavy heart and a surprisingly light coffin (see what I did there?) that we announce the sudden passing of our uncle, Ed Gale. Ed Gale has taken his final bow and is now headlining in the afterlife. Ed hitched a ride to California when he was twenty years old, with $41 and a dream, and he never looked back. He lit up the silver screens in cult classic films like Howard the Duck and Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town, earning himself some serious street cred at every con he attended. Which he never stopped bragging about. Ever."

The 70s were a time when television would seem to try anything at least once. Science Fiction was one of the main genres where this was very true. Thanks to the success of series like Star Trek, and Lost in Space there was a deluge of, off beat and actually good genre TV (as we explored on last week’s Land of the Lost episode). Typically it was with some sort of toy tie-in or angle to get children to watch and/or buy something. And just wait until Star Wars happened.
But, the early 70s would find a new kind of hero to grab the hearts and minds of kids across the country and he’d bring with him some of the coolest toys around. Because, he was literally made up of metal and plastic himself.
The Six Million Dollar Man would jump into television history with a premise that was brilliant,...

The May 4 series finale of HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones marked the end of a grand experiment for its creator and star. Tired of the whiplash that came with shooting his previous series Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals back east, Danny McBride and his wife formally relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, with their two sons in 2017. That’s where he wrote, filmed and finished his end of postproduction on all four seasons of the megachurch comedy.
“Nobody would ever let us shoot in town,” McBride says of Los Angeles. “We were always just barely given permission to do stuff. And we had to find the rebates. It got to the point where it was like, ‘Why are we living in L.A. just to work in a writers room?’ ”

Brad Silberling's 2009 film "Land of the Lost" was a feature-length spoof of the 1974 NBC adventure series co-created by Sid & Marty Krofft. The Krofft shows of the '70s and '80s were all fantasy programs that typically centered on parallel universes, fun puppets, and wild monster costumes.
Their "Land of the Lost," which ran for 43 episodes over its three seasons, was the Kroffts' headiest, least comedic series. It followed the adventures of Rick (Spencer Milligan) and his kids Will (Wesley Eure) and Holly (Kathy Coleman) as they accidentally crash through a dimensional portal while whitewater rafting. They arrived in a prehistoric world overrun by dinosaurs and a species of Sasquatch-like protohumans called Pakuni. There are also wicked, threatening humanoid reptiles in this universe called Sleestaks who live in a series of underground chambers. Exclusive: Emmy-nominated Erinn Hayes has been tapped as the female lead opposite Scott Foley in It’s Not Like That, a faith-based drama at Prime Video. Additionally, Brad Silberling has signed on to direct the pilot.
Created by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, who also serve as showrunners, It’s Not Like That follows Lori (Hayes), who is freshly divorced with two teens. Malcolm’s (Foley) a minister and recently widowed dad of three. Their families once did everything together, but now Lori and Malcolm must navigate their newly minted singledom, parenthood and the complexities of Malcolm being a modern-day minister. For those who live in temperate climates, the coming of spring can mean complete release from the winter blues, the decluttering of homes, and a whole lot more time spent absorbing vitamin D. Flowers bloom, birds sing, and the foliage offers a sense that all is continuing apace. For some, it also means revisiting Danny McBride's great achievement (co-created by Jody Hill and Ben Best), Eastbound & Down. Kenny Powers' (McBride) fall-rise-fall-rise journey from baseball superstar to hometown shame -- "I hurt my nose" -- is like a cold beer on a hot night. It's a show in which anything could and often did happen.
Across four seasons of relatively low-stakes storytelling blown out of proportion by the lead's delirious ego, it was apparent that HBO had something on their hands that they have kept a firm grasp on ever since. The gem, so to speak, was and remains Danny McBride,...

The 1960s and '70s were a turbulent time in myriad aspects for people all over the world. The United States was mired in a pointless war in Vietnam, while, at home, the nation's young populace were taking to the streets to protest this conflict as well as to show support for the Civil Rights Movement, women's equality, and other social/political causes. As often occurs during such highly contentious times, art got revolutionary and deeply weird.

Alright, just hear me out. Will Ferrell hit it big with SNL and has made some true classics such as Elf, Stranger Than Fiction, and Anchorman. While that phase of his career was all great and polished, the style of his sometimes crass and all-time dumb humor hit its pinnacle in the mid and late 2000s and 2010s with films like Step Brothers and Talladega Nights.
Taking characters who were fringe personality types was a masterstroke from Ferrell. He did the same, but on a much larger and disastrous scale, with the adventure comedy Land of the Lost. It was a box office bomb and received only negative reviews from critics but I feel it is still hilarious when you look at it through the right lens.

A lawsuit against Adam McKay, his production company and Netflix accusing them of ripping off a self-published novel in Don’t Look Up has been barred from moving forward.
U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett dismissed the lawsuit, finding that several of the alleged similarities are too “generic” to constitute a copyright infringement claim. She allowed the book’s author an opportunity to fix his claims and refile the complaint, according to the ruling issued on Thursday.

Roger Ebert was never afraid to go against the grain. While most critics loved films like A Clockwork Orange, Gladiator, The Usual Suspects and The Elephant Man, Ebert gave them a big thumbs down. It went the other way as well, though. Far Out Magazine recently noted a number of terrible movies that Ebert inexplicably loved, including three comedies that would be more at home at the Razzies than the Oscars.
Here are three terrible comedies that got kudos from arguably the greatest film critic of all time…

No Macaulay Culkin? No Chris Columbus? No problem for Ebert. “To my astonishment, I liked the third Home Alone movie better than the first two,” he wrote. “I’m even going so far as to recommend it.”

In retrospect, "Land of the Lost" was probably an unwise investment. Made for somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 million, this Brad Silberling directed adaptation of Sid & Marty Kroft's 1970s Saturday morning adventure series saw a four-quadrant bullseye in appealing to Gen X-er nostalgia, which, presumably, they'd share with their Zoomer children at their neighborhood multiplex. Given the campy nature of the original show, Silberling and the credited screenwriting duo of Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas pitched the film as a zany spoof of its source material, hiring a formidable comedic quartet in Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Jorma Taccone, and Anna Friel (as an incredibly game straight-woman) to, hopefully, deliver loads of yuks as they flee Sleestaks and giant prehistoric beasts.
The film topped out at $69 million during the summer of 2009, which is either a massive commercial disappointment or a bomb depending on your threshold for hyperbole. Regardless of what you call it,...

Parker Finn's 2022 horror film "Smile" has a novel premise and a monster that is difficult to describe. The film begins when the lead character, a therapist named Rose (Sosie Bacon), has a strange encounter with a student, Laura (Caitlin Stasey). Laura is in a panic, having spent several day beset by hallucinations. She has been seeing people she knows appearing out of nowhere and grinning at her fiendishly. She knows these people are, in fact, a singular shapeshifting demon of some kind, and it is encouraging her to die by suicide. Then, as she predicted, Laura also pastes on a bleak, intense smile, and slits her throat right in front of Rose.
Rose soon begins experiencing similar hallucinations, wherein people she knows appear in her mind's eye, all of them wearing a scary rictus. Rose soon discovers that the grinning entity is an ancient supernatural creature that feeds on trauma.

Four made-for-tv Planet of the Apes movies from 1980 are now streaming online, the first time they have been available for viewing since a DVD set was released nearly two decades ago. The four films are actually compilations of episodes from the 1974 CBS Planet of the Apes live-action series. The four films are currently streaming for free on YouTube's Movie Channel.
Some fans of the original 1968 Planet of the Apes film are not even aware that the CBS series or TV films even existed. In September 1974, CBS premiered the series, which was based in the same timeline as the 1968 film starring Charlton Heston. Roddy McDowell was the lone cast member from the original Apes films to return for the series. However, he played a completely new character, Galen, a chimp who helps two astronauts (Ron Harper and James Naughton) who have traveled from the past and crash-landed on their home planet a thousand years later.

Exclusive: Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men) and Laura Slade Wiggins (Shameless) have signed on to star alongside Landon Ashworth (Space Force) in Go On, a fantasy drama marking Ashworth’s feature directorial debut, which will enter production in New Mexico in September.
Marking Ashworth’s first produced feature screenplay, the film follows two strangers on a remote mountain, scorched by forest fires, as they help each other process baggage from their previous lives so they can transition to the afterlife. Ashworth crafted the screenplay after losing his very young cousin, Landon Bellm, to suicide.
“Having my feature film directorial debut be my own screenplay which addresses real, meaningful, and relatable issues is an honor,” Ashworth told Deadline. “Also, having the opportunity to work with Vincent is beyond a dream come true. I’ve followed his career for over a decade and knew he needed to play the co-lead of this movie.

Don't call them The Addams Family: "The Munsters" may be remembered as one of two darkly funny monster family sitcoms airing in the 1960s, but it's decidedly not the same as its comic strip-based contemporary. "The Munsters," for one thing, pulled its monsters straight from the Universal back catalog, featuring characters based directly on Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Wolf Man. The series starred Fred Gwynne and Yvonne de Carlo as married couple Herman and Lily Munster, whose household consisted of an endearing vampire grandpa (Al Lewis), wolf-boy son (Butch Patrick), human niece (Beverley Owen and Pat Priest), and a whole host of spooky-fun pets including a bat, a cat, a raven, and a dragon-like reptile named Spot.
Despite its enduring spot in the zeitgeist, "The Munsters" actually only ran for two seasons from 1964 to 1966. It was capped off with a movie, "Munsters, Go Home!" that saw the family take a trip to Europe,...
