We’ve never been short of Jane Austen film adaptations. In fact, it seems a new one arrives every decade – two were announced recently, including Netflix’s spin on Pride & Prejudice. Yet, one adaptation has been shamefully overlooked: Gurinder Chadha’s Bride & Prejudice.

A cross-cultural, British-and-Bollywood-meets-Hollywood take on Austen’s most famous novel, the film is pure joy – a riot of original musical numbers, colourful costumes, chaos, culture clashes and, of course, romance.

While the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie franchise is massively successful and loved by filmgoers all over the world, it also has its detractors. Indeed, every entry with the exception of the first installment, 2003's "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," has drawn mixed to poor reviews from critics, which might have affected the way some folks view the actors associated with Disney's seafaring fantasy adventures.

Today, Wonder Project, an entertainment brand founded by industry veterans Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten and Jon Erwin that produces and curates premium films and series for the faith and values audience, announced that its new subscription offering will launch on October 5, 2025, exclusively on Prime Video in the U.S.

Wonder Project’s new subscription service is set to launch on Prime Video in the U.S. on Oct. 5 for $8.99 per month.

Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming mystery thriller The Woman in Cabin 10, starring Oscar-nominated actors Keira Knightley and Guy Pearce. The movie is directed by Simon Stone, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, and is based on the bestselling novel by Ruth Ware.

The Woman in Cabin 10 follows Laura "Lo" Blacklock (Knightley), an award-winning journalist on assignment on board a luxury yacht, who sees a passenger thrown overboard in the middle of the night, but is not believed when she reports it and sets out to discover the truth. As the trailer shows, things get increasingly dangerous as it becomes clear that someone wants her silenced.

As we tend to familiarize actors with their on-screen characters, it’s surprising that some have publicly expressed dislike for the roles that made them famous. Despite the iconic status of these characters, actors like these sometimes reveal that they hated portraying them.

Matthew Macfadyen, famous for his role as Mr. Darcy in Joe Wright’s Pride & Prejudice opposite Keira Knightley, once shared that he did not really enjoy playing the role. “There were moments I had a good time, but I wish I’d enjoyed it more. I wish I was less worried about it. I just felt a bit miscast.

Shiny Penny Productions and Five All in the Fifth Entertainment are developing Gene Pressman’s forthcoming memoir They All Came to Barneys, which comes out September 2 from Viking Books/Penguin Random House. Beth Schacter will write, while Joe Wright (The Agency) will direct the adaptation that will follow the three-generation saga about Pressman’s family’s fashion retail empire.

Netflix has officially shared a first look at its upcoming Pride and Prejudice series. The full cast for the reboot of the 2005 film, starring Keira Knightley, has also been revealed.

Per Variety, the first-look photo showcases the Bennet sisters standing in a field. The supporting cast was also revealed. Production on the new Netflix six-part limited series has just started on location in the United Kingdom. It promises to be a faithful adaptation of Jane Austen's novel, with Heartstopper's Euros Lyn directing with screenwriter Dolly Alderton.

The world of Jane Austen is expanding a little further with more “Sense and Sensibility” casting.

The Focus Features and Working Title iteration of the iconic novel will also star George MacKay, “Outlander” actress Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, and Fiona Shaw, as announced Monday.

As previously reported, Daisy Edgar-Jones will lead as Elinor Dashwood, with Esme Creed-Miles playing Marianne Dashwood. “Blue Jean” filmmaker Georgia Oakley will direct from a script by bestselling author Diana Reid. The feature has started filming in the United Kingdom.

Per an earlier announcement, “Originally published anonymously with the byline reading ‘By A Lady,’ Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’ established her as a literary force and remains a cornerstone of English literature. The timeless exploration of restraint and passion follows sisters Elinor (Edgar-Jones) and Marianne Dashwood, opposites in their emotional approach, as they navigate love, loss, and financial uncertainty amid the societal expectations of 18th-century England.

Black Swanis celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, if that can be believed, and Searchlight Pictures is commemorating the milestone by re-releasing the film. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan starred Natalie Portman as Nina Sayers in a psychological thriller that pushes her to extremes to get the lead role in a performance of Swan Lake. Co-starring Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey, Winona Ryder, and Vincent Cassel, Black Swan went on to be nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, with the film ultimately winning Portman the Best Actress Oscar.

Black Swan is returning for a two-day limited IMAX re-release in 2,000 theaters, according to Variety. Showtimes will be on August 20 and August 24, under "Black Swan 15th Anniversary Exclusive: Remastered for Imax." Exclusive: Slow Horses star Jack Lowden looks to be reuniting with Apple on one of the streamer’s more anticipated series. Sources tell Deadline that the Emmy-nominated actor is set to star in an untitled series based on Metropolis, from Philip Kerr’s globally bestselling Berlin Noir book series.

Insiders also say that BAFTA nominee Tom Shankland will direct as well as executive produce the Apple TV+ series, which Deadline first told you was in the works back in April.

Peter Straughan, who won the Adapted Screenplay Oscar for Conclave, will serve as showrunner as well as adapt the script and executive produce. Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will also exec produce through their Playtone banner. Playtone and Apple most recently teamed on the World War II series Masters of the Air. Esmé Creed-Miles has joined Daisy Edgar-Jones in the new adaptation of Sense and Sensibility from Focus Features and Working Title Films.

Miles will portray Marianne Dashwood, previously portrayed by Kate Winslet in the 1995 film directed by Ang Lee. The actress posted photos with the novel as a subtle announcement that she had gotten the co-lead part. Edgar-Jones will star as Elinor Dashwood.

Georgia Oakley will direct the remake of Lee’s film from a script by bestselling author Diana Reid. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title will produce alongside India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett.

As Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe expands, fan-favorite actor Finn Little will return as Carter Dutton for the Beth & Rip spinoff, which is currently in development. The spinoff series does not have a title as of yet. However, we know the project finds Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprising their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively.

According to a report from Deadline, the Beth & Rip spinoff should remain in the present-day timeline, keeping with Yellowstone’s canon. Jane Austen needs no introduction. She's the original rom-com queen, writing novels in Regency-era England that gently satirized class and gender roles while also giving her readers classic romances between characters who have stood the test of time. So when it comes to novelists whose work has been adapted for the screen on a fairly regular basis, Jane Austen is right up there with Stephen King.

Year after year, we get different Jane Austen interpretations of her most popular novels, some placed within an appropriately period setting, others given a modern-day update. But no matter when they take place, they've all got that special something that allowed Jane Austen to stand the test of time: relatable heroines and their lovable but occasionally toxic love interests.

Although there have been some truly excellent Jane Austen miniseries adaptations, for the purposes of this piece, we're focusing on the film versions of her work.
