Shrek 4-D is awesome! When I went to see it on my holiday in Florida I didn't know what it was. As I walked into Universal to collect my tickets, there was a TV screen showing clips for rides in the park. I saw this and thought "Wow this looks good" When I stood in line there were clips from the original Shrek movie. When you go into the castle there is a woman (maybe a man some days) there is characters from Shrek in the room with you. There is a TV screen which shows The Gingerbreadman running away and then the ghost appears on screen. Oh, but before you go in they give you special glasses (to make everything look 3-D). You seat in seats that jerk every once in a while. It is very fun and if your there check it out if your a fan of Shrek or not.
I was really excited of seeing this, but came out a little disappointed. The animation is breathtaking (Like the waterfall) and the 3-D is pretty good, but the jokes feel strained and there are one too many 3-D cliches. I also didn't like the fact that Farquaad came back as a ghost.
But I did like the first part where your in the little torture chamber with the 3 little pigs, Pinnochio, The Gingerbread Man and the magic mirror. The rest is cheesy. But I'm sure the little kids will like it (My little sister did) so I guess that's all that matters.

When "Shrek 4-D" premiered at Universal Studios in 2003, I'm sure it was nothing short of amazing. But that's probably not why you're reading reviews on IMDb some 10-15 years later. You're probably wondering if it's worth renting or picking up on DVD.
I would vote no. Clocking in at 13 minutes with no other features on the DVD except previews, this would've been better as a bonus feature on the Shrek movie DVD. I can't say I was dazzled by the 3D (and I was watching on a pretty good 60" screen) mainly because the cardboard red & blue 3D glasses, included, are sorta annoying on the eyes and nose.
I don't know much about 3D technology, but I know that some recent films like "Beauty & the Beast 3D" (2012) are a more enjoyable because the 3D glasses don't tint the colors so much. Perhaps it's just the difference between theater projection and home viewing, but unless you've got a theater in your house you'll probably be seeing it the way I did.
The story is about Princess Fiona getting kidnapped while Shrek & Donkey chase after her. No real story, but there's a lot of nonstop, fun action, a few funny lines, and the waterfall scene at the end is pretty impressive. I ended up watching the 2D version on the same disc because you can get a better appreciation for the colors & animation. It's definitely worth 13 minutes of your time, but unless you're a completist I don't think there's any need to run out and buy the DVD.

I was in Hollywood in the summer of 2003 and I saw this when I visited Universal Theme park. This was a funny "ride" as you watched the 3-D video on the giant theatre screen the chairs moved along with the movie, like when the carriage the characters were riding in went over a bump in the road the seats shook as if you were riding in the carriage alongside the characters in the movie.and when donkey sneezed, you felt a spray of water hit your face.and in the scene where there are spiders crawling on the ground you feel something brush your leg.A real fun experience to both young and old.
AKA The Ghost of Lord Farquaad. Shrek gets lost on the way to the honeymoon. Fiona gets kidnapped. Shrek and Donkey follow in pursuit. They end up in a cemetery where they are confronted by the Ghost of Farquaad who has plans for Fiona. It's a fun 13 minutes. It was used in the amusement parks. That's what the 4-D refers to as it becomes a ride. It's great to have the original cast doing the voice work. It's just fun.

- QuizWhen the attraction opened in Universal Orlando in 2003 it only used up half of the original building, but the crowd waiting to see the attraction generated enormous wait times. Universal decided to build an exact mirror image to the ride in the other half of the theater to reduce wait times which opened in the spring of 2004.
- BlooperWhen Shrek and Donkey are flying on Dragon they see the princess at 11:00, but Shrek says "Princess, three o'clock".
- Versioni alternativeWhen the short was released on Netflix and the Shrek's Thrilling Tales DVD under the name "The Ghost of Lord Farquaad", the scene where Donkey says "Wow, this 3D is pretty cool!" was cut due to the short being released in 2D.
