fun Shrek short

AKA The Ghost of Lord Farquaad. Shrek gets lost on the way to the honeymoon. Fiona gets kidnapped. Shrek and Donkey follow in pursuit. They end up in a cemetery where they are confronted by the Ghost of Farquaad who has plans for Fiona. It's a fun 13 minutes. It was used in the amusement parks. That's what the 4-D refers to as it becomes a ride. It's great to have the original cast doing the voice work. It's just fun.

a Review of the 4-D Experience

This is the only movie I've seen in 4-D, and I never forgot it! "4-D" is basically a cinema with special chairs that move, squirt water, and emit smells (complete with 3D glasses) Te movie itself is pretty forgettable, but if you ever get the chance to see a 4-D movie, then check it out for the experience!

Hmm... not as awesome on home video

When "Shrek 4-D" premiered at Universal Studios in 2003, I'm sure it was nothing short of amazing. But that's probably not why you're reading reviews on IMDb some 10-15 years later. You're probably wondering if it's worth renting or picking up on DVD.

I would vote no. Clocking in at 13 minutes with no other features on the DVD except previews, this would've been better as a bonus feature on the Shrek movie DVD. I can't say I was dazzled by the 3D (and I was watching on a pretty good 60" screen) mainly because the cardboard red & blue 3D glasses, included, are sorta annoying on the eyes and nose.

I don't know much about 3D technology, but I know that some recent films like "Beauty & the Beast 3D" (2012) are a more enjoyable because the 3D glasses don't tint the colors so much. Perhaps it's just the difference between theater projection and home viewing, but unless you've got a theater in your house you'll probably be seeing it the way I did.

The story is about Princess Fiona getting kidnapped while Shrek & Donkey chase after her. No real story, but there's a lot of nonstop, fun action, a few funny lines, and the waterfall scene at the end is pretty impressive. I ended up watching the 2D version on the same disc because you can get a better appreciation for the colors & animation. It's definitely worth 13 minutes of your time, but unless you're a completist I don't think there's any need to run out and buy the DVD.

Fun return to the original

This short film marks a return of the original Lord Farquaad. Good for fans of the first film who want more.

$hamele$$

I did not hate the actual featurette, what I hated was that it was only sold in addition to Shrek 1, which everyone and his brother already owned, and had to buy again, just to get this 15-minute bridge into Shrek 2.

It was a shameless marketing ploy designed to shove a second copy of the original movie down the consumers' throats, regardless of whether they had already purchased the original movie, or NOT. It was George Lucasesque in its gross thoughtlessness for the fans, and Dreamworks was considered to be above those shady tactics.

The featurette should have been made available - at a REASONABLE PRICE - without forcing the consumer to buy another copy of a movie they already had.

The practice employed here rates a 0/10.

The featurette itself, for what it was, rates a 4/10 from...

Funny ride

I was in Hollywood in the summer of 2003 and I saw this when I visited Universal Theme park. This was a funny "ride" as you watched the 3-D video on the giant theatre screen the chairs moved along with the movie, like when the carriage the characters were riding in went over a bump in the road the seats shook as if you were riding in the carriage alongside the characters in the movie.and when donkey sneezed, you felt a spray of water hit your face.and in the scene where there are spiders crawling on the ground you feel something brush your leg.A real fun experience to both young and old.

Disappointing

'Shrek 4-D' is a lame excuse to use very popular characters in a 3-D animation for a theme park. It seems like the makers thought the 3-D element would be enough to make this watchable, but I think most fans of the 'Shrek'-films will be utterly disappointed.

The story sees Fiona (Cameron Diaz) being kidnapped by the evil lord Farquaad (John Lithgow), as a ghost of course, since he died in 'Shrek'. He has a ghost dragon to help him stop Shrek (Mike Myers) who wants to save Fiona. Shrek is helped by Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and the real dragon.

What is missing in this 'Shrek' film is the wit and the references to other moving images. There are some funny moments, but they all deal with the less important characters like the Gingerbread Man, Three Blind Mice, Thelonious and Pinocchio. Those small moments are references and they work, but other than that there is the 3-D, nothing else.

It will probably be enough for most people who just want to have a little fun, but even the three minutes of the 'Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke Dance Party' are more entertaining than this.

Okay, but not as good as the movie

I was really excited of seeing this, but came out a little disappointed. The animation is breathtaking (Like the waterfall) and the 3-D is pretty good, but the jokes feel strained and there are one too many 3-D cliches. I also didn't like the fact that Farquaad came back as a ghost.

But I did like the first part where your in the little torture chamber with the 3 little pigs, Pinnochio, The Gingerbread Man and the magic mirror. The rest is cheesy. But I'm sure the little kids will like it (My little sister did) so I guess that's all that matters.

Shrek 4-D

This feels very much like a cash in project to build on the success of the original 'Shrek' film.

It's fine, but it's not great.

Enjoyable....

This takes place right after Shrek and Fiona marry. The ghost of Farquad had his dumb henchman kidnap Fiona--as the dead guy is STILL determined to marry her. But, as she's alive and he isn't, he needs to have her killed first. Can our heroes rescue her before it's too late?

I was very surprised to see this film on DVD and on Netflix, as it originally was just intended as a 3-D film that is still being shown at Universal Studios. I've seen the film several times at Universal Orlando and when you see it on TV it loses not only the 3-D but the immersive theater experience. Rumbling seats and effects that take place throughout the theater are missing. Still, it's worth seeing. I'd give it a 7 in its none 3-D mode (yes, I know they say it's 4-D but ask any physicist about this) and a 9 at Universal Studios.

One awesome ride for Universal, Florida!

Shrek 4-D is awesome! When I went to see it on my holiday in Florida I didn't know what it was. As I walked into Universal to collect my tickets, there was a TV screen showing clips for rides in the park. I saw this and thought "Wow this looks good" When I stood in line there were clips from the original Shrek movie. When you go into the castle there is a woman (maybe a man some days) there is characters from Shrek in the room with you. There is a TV screen which shows The Gingerbreadman running away and then the ghost appears on screen. Oh, but before you go in they give you special glasses (to make everything look 3-D). You seat in seats that jerk every once in a while. It is very fun and if your there check it out if your a fan of Shrek or not.

A fun ride

This ride isn't half bad. Though it tends to reuse jokes from the film, it's still got cool fx and you feel the action (when Donkey sneezes, for example, the audience is sprayed). It's not the best ride at Universal- that's of course Spider-Man. But it's fun if you can avoid the long lines.

Great Ride

Shrek 4-D is a newly opened ride at Universal Studio's in Orlando Florida and I believe also Universal Hollywood.

You are taken into a room prior to entering the movie theatre and are given a brief overview of what happened in Shrek, the original movie. The attendant in the room continually threatens your with a flogging. This is fun the first time you see it, but by the third time, it is pretty tedious.

I do not normally like 3D, the effect makes me feel sick and I tend to have to keep taking my 3D glasses on and off, yet I eventually managed to sit through the whole of this ride with my glasses on. So where does 4D come into it? This is where you get squirted with water when donkey sneezes, your chair moves in time with the action and you get to feel lovely `spiders' running under your legs.

Shrek is an excellent ride, worthy of several attempts, regardless of age. However my favourite Universal ride is still MiB!

Oh how much I miss this ride...

I said my final goodbyes to Shrek 4D at Universal Orlando Resort (The ride closed permanently on Jan 10, 2022), and let's just say that some tears were shed. Anyways, this was the best ride I've ever ridden in my whole life, and I LOVED it! The way people are immersed into this 4D adventure is incredible. I don't care what anybody says, just stop looking at the reviews. I think they have this on Netflix, but it's kinda empty without the special effects, the glasses, rocking seats, etc. Anyways, I guess we can say the flogging is ogre now, but the memories are never ogre. Thank you, Shrek. For everything.

Great Ride

Shrek 4-D is a new ride/show at Universal Studios in both Florida and California. A follow up to the original movie, this short film focuses on what happened after the wedding, when the dead Lord Farquaad has returned from the dead, and ready to wreck Shrek and Fiona's honeymoon. Many of the original and loved characters from the first movie are back including Donkey, the Gingerbread man and Pinocchio.

The 4-D part of the name focuses on the fact that the movie is in a new dimension, your seat moves, it's in 3-D and for example if someone splashed in a puddle then you would get sprayed with water.

This is a fantastic ride, it's really enjoyable, although the que was awfully long... It was a nice change from all the other rides in the park. If you liked Shrek then you should like this.

It really is a great "ride"

I loved the movie Shrek, so I was all for checking out Shrek 4D. And it was a really great and enjoyable "ride", with wonderful animation especially with the waterfall and effects that really draw you into what's going on especially Donkey sneezing and the spiders. The music is driven and memorable, the plot is simple but engaging and the jokes are very funny and well written, with the part at the start of the attraction in the torture chamber a riot and the dialogue always witty and amusing. The characters are just as likable as in the movie, especially Donkey and Gingerbread, and the voice work especially from Eddie Murphy is full of energy.

Overall, heartily recommended. 9/10 Bethany Cox

Average Cartoon Short

Shrek 4-D (2003)

** (out of 4)

Very weak short has the ghost of Lord Farquaad stealing Fiona so Shrek, Donkey and various other characters must try to rescue her. From what I read after viewing this thing, it appears this was added as a bonus on the re-release of the first movie and it seems not too many were happy with the marketing process but the film itself is what really should have bothered them. I understand the original version was in 3-D but the effects were obviously the main focus and there's no real evidence that the filmmakers were trying to tell any sort of good story. It seems every single scene is just built up so something could go flying through the air towards the camera or a punch is thrown towards the camera. I can't speak to how well the effects were as I watched the 2-D version under the title THE GHOST OF LORD FARQUAAD but I can say that neither version had any good laughs. The entire thing just felt really rushed and overall I thought some of the animation looked quite cheap. The vocal performances were all fine but it's just too bad they weren't given anything funny to say.

Lord Farquaad Is A Greater and a Cooler Character Than Prince Charming

I absolutely loved Shrek and The Ghost of Lord Farquaad! This movie is a perfect continuation of the beloved Shrek series, with all the same humor, heart, and charm that fans have come to know and love.

The animation is top-notch, with vibrant colors and stunning visuals that truly bring the fairy tale world to life. The voice acting is also fantastic, with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow all reprising their roles and delivering stellar performances once again.

The story is clever and well-written, with plenty of laughs and heartwarming moments throughout. I particularly enjoyed the twist involving Lord Farquaad's ghost, which added an exciting new element to the film.

Overall, Shrek and The Ghost of Lord Farquaad is a must-see for fans of the Shrek series. It's a fantastic addition to the franchise and a truly entertaining and enjoyable film. I would give it 10 stars out of 10 and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and heartwarming movie to watch.
