There was a fallout between Sanju and Govinda during the film. Unit members said the two would sit in different corners of the sets in between shots. They would even have altercations since each insisted on giving a particular shot in his own way. Poor David Dhawan was often caught in the cross-fire between Sanjay and Govinda. Once, when David and Chi Chi had a heated argument on filming a scene, Sanjay jumped in and defended the director. He even asked Govinda to stop being so stubborn! Sources say this interference from Sanjay was the last straw for Govinda who didn't want to hold back the bitterness and pain he had felt for too long. He is said to have retorted with harsh words and the result was an alleged verbal battle between the two actors in front of the unit.

A conversation of Sanjay Dutt and Chotta Shakeel was made public in 2002. The conversation took place in 2000, while Sanjay Dutt and Govinda were shooting for Jodi No.1. In the conversation he refers to Govinda as "gandu" and complains about his constant late comings. Govinda would report at 2 pm for a 8 am shift. This would cause endless delays for the film. Chotta Shakeel joked that when they produce a film with Govinda , he would not dare to come late. When the conversation was made public, it broke the long friendship of Sanjay Dutt and Govinda. They still had to complete their work in Ek Aur Ek Gyrah.
