During production, Spyro was originally going to be green. But the developers feared that he'd blend in with the grass so they changed him to purple instead.
This is the only game in the series where Carlos Alazraqui voices Spyro. His voice was deemed too bratty for the character and would be replaced by Tom Kenny.
It is said that Spyro was combined with the Greek word "pyro" (meaning fire) and the Latin word "spiro" (meaning to breathe).
