Burt Reynolds had his hand in a cast because he punched a man who tried to mug him two days earlier in San Diego.
A ten-man tag match had been advertised for this event featuring The 1-2-3 Kid, Bob Holly, Tatanka, and The Smoking Gunns vs. Irwin R. Schyster, Jeff Jarrett, Rick Martel, and The Headshrinkers. Due to the ladder match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon running longer than expected thanks to ignoring the timekeeper's instructions, the match had to be postponed. This was explained on-screen by a backstage scene where the heel team couldn't agree who would be team captain. The contest was held two weeks later on the RAW episode I Found A New Place To Dwell (1994), where I.R.S. pinned The 1-2-3 Kid for the victory. The match would also be included on the VHS compilation entitled "WWF Mania (1994)", released later that year.
Earthquake's opponent was originally scheduled to be Ludvig Borga, who had been out of action with an injured ankle since January 1994. When Vince McMahon realized that Borga would not be ready in time, Adam Bomb was inserted into his spot.
Bret and Owen Hart originally planned to put on a match akin to the Randy Savage/Ricky Steamboat match from WrestleMania III (1987) (with numerous pin-fall attempts and reverses). However, when they attempted to put on a match of that kind at house shows, audiences did not respond in the way that they hoped (i.e. people were cheering for Owen, who was supposed to be the heel). To combat this, they went to their father, Stu Hart, for guidance and put together the basic match outline mere hours before WrestleMania X began.
The WWF Tag-Team Championship match was originally planned to be the blow-off to the feud between the Quebecers (Jacques Rougeau and Pierre Ouelett) and the Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott), with the Steiners winning back the titles. But, those plans were scrapped when Vince McMahon found out after Royal Rumble (1994) that the Steiners wanted to also wrestle for New Japan Pro Wrestling while renewing their WWF contracts. As a result, Vince took the Steiners off the card and replaced them with Men on a Mission. The Steiners would leave the WWF before King of the Ring (1994), with their contracts expiring in December that same year.
