This was the first PlayStation game to exceed 1 million copies sold.
Originally released for the arcades in December 9, 1994 followed by a global release soon after, it was the first arcade game to use this board. Tekken was marketed to small arcades as a cheaper alternative to Sega's Virtua Fighter 2 (1994), which was released for the more expensive Model 2 arcade board.
The player can listen to all of Tekken's music with a CD Player.
In Jack's epilogue, the machine connected to Jack is named "System 11", which is the name of the arcade hardware used by Tekken [1994] and Tekken 2 [1995].
In the PlayStation version, the Stadium stage has a big screen in the background reflecting the fight. The image duplication effect would later be reused in Tekken 2 for the Mirror Darkness stage.
