Avtaar

Modifica
After watching this movie, several elderly couples in India who had given ownership of their houses to their children changed the title deeds back to their own name, fearing that their children might do to them what the children in this movie did to their parents.
Several people from the industry kept asking Mohan Kumar why he signed Gulshan Grover for the film. He said it was due to Gulshan Grovers nose. He said Gulshan's nose made him look like a person who could sell his parent's for a 100 rupees.
Rajesh Khanna was initially hesitant to accept this movie as he would be required to play an elderly man while all his competitors (Amitabh, Dharmendra, Jeetendra etc.) were playing young heroes. However, as his career was already in a slump, he decided to take the risk of signing this movie and it paid of handsomely. The film was not only a critical and commercial success, but Khanna also got universal praise for his performance as "Avtaar Kishan".
During Gulshan Grover's struggling days there were times he went hungry after his money ran out. To eat something he would arrive at Vinay Shukla's house. One day a hungry Gulshan arrived and was about to take off his shoes, when he saw Shabana Azmi sitting in the living room. Gulshan Grover had torn smelly socks on and was ashamed to remove his shoes in-front of Shabana Azmi. But he was very hungry so he had no choice. Shabana noticed Gulshan that day and promised to help him out. She got Gulshan a meeting with Mohan Kumar and Gulshan was signed for Avtaar. Gulshan was forever grateful to Shabana Azmi and always would thank her.
This film was Rajesh Khanna's biggest hit in terms of box office collections after his bad phase from 1976 to 1978.
