Filmed in cinemascope which usually means doubling the lighting budget but this instance the lights were miniature ones and there was a very reduced crew which not only meant greatly reduced costs but filming was able to move along a lot quicker, spending 5 weeks in Berwick on Tweed then strangely going to New York before returning to complete filming at Bristol,

The locals went over board to welcome the crew with the mayor giving up his parking place, a headmaster delaying the children's playtime to enable the crew to complete their shot.
