Aamir Khan said in a interview in 1996 that the film was a huge mess. A majority of the scenes were either removed from the film or re-shot from a fresher look as the film took 5 years to complete. Aamir Khan looks at the film as one of his biggest mistakes.
In the original script, a scene involved a clash between Aamir Khan and Om Puri which involved a lot of dialogs. Aamir Khan at first did not feel the scene was relevant to the film and demanded it would not be shot. 'Dilip Shankar' felt it was needed and later shot the scene. In the final edit, Dilip Shankar eventually felt Aamir Khan was right and it was not relevant, so it was edited out.
Most of Pooja Bedi's scenes were edited during the final edit of the film including a song with her and Aamir Khan.
Actor Rajnikanth and director Dilip Shankar became good friends while shooting for this film. Once, when they couldn't get a good car, Dilip's assistant sent an old, run-down car to pick up Rajnikanth. He traveled without any complains, despite the car breaking down once. Another time, Dilip Shankar told Rajnikanth at 4 pm, that his shots were over for the day, but Rajnikanth did not leave, and waited for almost 5 hours, helping Dilip Shankar finish the shoot, so that they could go and have dinner together.
Aamir Khan is known for his honesty and professionalism. Once, director Dilip Shankar had requested Aamir to come in for a 7 am shift. Unfortunately, by the time Aamir reached the sets, it was well past 9 am. Dilip Shankar expected Aamir to throw starry tantrums, when asked for the reason of delay, but Dilip was surprised, when Aamir apologized profusely, saying he had overslept.
