The film is an adaptation of the novel by Fan Vavrincová, which was first published chapter by chapter in 1936 in the magazine 'Ahoj na sobotu' ('Ahoy for Saturday') and two years later in book form. In both cases under the title 'Patsy tropí hlouposti' ('Patsy Fools Around'. The film, which Vavrincová co-scripted, moved the plot from England to the Czechia and modified some of the characters and their relationships. After its success, the author reworked and renamed her novel in accordance with the film version, and from the 1940s on, only this new version has been published.
The title role of Eva was originally offered to Adina Mandlová, but she left it to her then best friend Natasa Gollová, who she believed was a better choice for such an eccentrically comedic part. Director Martin Fric later proved her right and cast Gollová in several other screwball comedies - Kristián (1939), Katakomby (1940), Hotel Modrá hvezda (1941) and Roztomilý clovek (1941).
