The US English-dubbed version under the title "The Final War" was picked up by a small exploitation distributor called Sam Lake Enterprises. As a result, it received scant bookings and a very small number of release prints were struck. It is believed that the film hasn't seen the light of a projector since the 1970s. There is a possibility that this version of the film is now "lost" with no prints or pre-print material known to exist.
When the film was released in the US in an English-dubbed version under the title "The Final War," footage from a later Toei production, L'astronave fantasma (1961), was used to pad out the special effects. The footage showed flying saucers causing additional mass destruction. Because of this additional footage, the US version was regarded as science-fiction.
The English dubbed version was available in the U.S. in 16mm pan-and-scanned prints for release to television. These television showings were extremely rare.
In 2018, the original Japanese version was released on DVD in the U.S. in a letterboxed DVD in Japanese without any subtitles. A later release became available with English subtitles.
