At one point, Troma had expressed interest in acquiring the distribution rights of the film before Shapiro Entertainment got their hands on said rights. Coincidentally, Troma now owns the majority, if not all of the Shapiro Entertainment/Shapiro Glickenhaus catalog after purchasing Jim Glickenhaus's North American LLC outfit, as of April 2021.
For some reason, at some point after the film's 1987 video release, the film became regarded as public domain in America. Floods of inferior-quality releases have been floating around the market, usually sourced from either the original Academy Entertainment VHS or a lower quality source.
A firearms enthusiast, Washburn is seen with an ASP (Armament Systems and Procedures), a very rare, custom-built handgun based on the Smith & Wesson Model 39-2 9mm. Designed in the late 1960's, and available from approximately 1970 to 1987, only a few hundred were completed by gunsmith Paris Theodore, using the S&W as a base gun. Revolutionary and imaginative, the ASP pistol had considerable influence on concealed carry handguns for many years. Smith & Wesson incorporated several features into the model 3913 and much later, the M&P Shield and Shield Plus.
