The First Community Church choir often sings the song "Amen", and the Reverend always introduces it by saying "The choir will now sing 'Amen,' written by Dr. Jester Hairston." The song is a real-life hit from the 1960s, and the writer is the very same Jester Hairston who plays Rolly Forbes on the show.
Rosetta LeNoire originated the role of Leola Henderson Forbes. She left the series after the third season to join the cast of 8 sotto un tetto (1989) and was replaced by Montrose Hagins. Hagins stayed with the show until the end of its run.
