Rajkumar Santoshi was an assistant director in this film, after about 6 years later, Rajkumar Santoshi got a break to direct Ghayal.
Om Puri, his first film in main lead and also Shafi Inamder and Sadashiv Amrapurkar.are introduced in this film and all of them became successful in commercial film.
The entire film was shot as per the script written by Vijay Tendulkar. But during the climax, Govind Nihalani somehow had a different vision than the writer. But Vijay Tendulkar was too senior a person and Govind Nihalani did not want to let him down. So Govind Nihalani shot two ends for the film - one that was written by Vijay Tendulkar in the script and other that was his own vision. He showed both versions to the writer and finally Vijay Tendulkar gave Govind Nihalani consent to retain his own ending.
There is a reference of killings of criminals in custody by police after blinding them. A movie called " ganga jal" starring Ajay Devgan was made on similar incident later on by Prakash jha. Also, Brinda karat from communist party is seen talking about atrocities by police in one of the scenes.
In the scene when Om Puri is drinking chai in his house, the very popular Marathi classical song 'He Shaymsundar rajasa' plays on radio, sung by Vidushi Kishori Amonkar.
