According to director Karen Arthur, during the filming of scenes involving Budar the cast and crew had to coordinate their schedules to keep anyone menstruating away from the orangutan, as the animal would go after anyone who smelled of blood.
For the shots in which Cissy beats the orangutan, the metal chains were replaced with plastic replicas to avoid injuring Budar.
